The food was outstanding! We tried the birria tacos and they were made to perfection. Not too greasy and the exact amount of taste to make it palatable and not overwhelming. The locale itself is charming, with both indoor and outdoor seating. They had deals on drinks and their taco Tuesday is $23 for all you can eat tacos! If you're hungry, bring your appetite for that deal. The parking is a little stressful since it's very tight and running along a major roadway but we lucked out and got parking right away. The service was great and felt very authentic. This is a must if you're in the area. We're headed back for pupusas next time!

This is such a lovely restaurant, very authentic, delicious food, and delightful employees! Inside is very cozy. The green they choose inside is calming and refreshing plus I love booth seating anywhere I go. They serve Salvadoran and Mexican food and it is made fresh and tastes amazing! I order the crab and shrimp burrito and they don't skimp on crab meat or shrimp at all! Did I mention they use Real crab meat! Everything was sautéed in fresh garlic, onions, peppers and tomatoes to create the most amazing burrito. Never lacks flavor! The rice was made perfectly and I love that they add veggies into it and the beans refried, smooth and creamy! I always have to get guacamole and chips, I t's a must for me. And just like everything else made fresh with crispy chips to go with it.

El Guanaco has the absolute best Pupusas in all of South Florida! Plus, the variety of food is exceptional!!

Came here for their Taco Tuesday special: all-you-can-eat tacos for $19.95, and 2-for-1 mojitos! Get here early if you can, there is almost no parking in their tiny lot, and no other public parking nearby. We sat out on the back patio, which was an awesome little space! They have seating inside as well, but I would recommend the back. We started off with free chips and salsa, which was surprising because so many places don't do that anymore. The mojitos were well made, heavy on the mint (which I liked). We tried a wide variety of tacos- carnitas, chicken, steak, al pastor, and chorizo. We liked all of them, but both agreed the steak was the most tasty! My biggest complaint was that service was SLOW. We didn't seem to have one server dedicated to our table, so people cycled through taking dishes, bringing drinks, etc. Several times we asked for a water refill or more tacos, and whoever we asked seemingly passed the message along to someone else, who would come by about ten minutes later and ask what it was that we wanted. I wasn't in a hurry, but our dinner ended up being very long as a result. Overall, I would recommend this place for the tasty food, but would make sure I come on a night where I'm feeling patient!

Tiny and cozy Mexican place with some nice vegetarian options, good margaritas and great service! We been there a couple of times and will probably go back

Five star because the food was delicious. I found them at the Oakland park food festival and as soon as I tried their rice, I knew they were good. White rice barely has flavor and this had all the love. These are the flavors that Broward are missing. We need good inexpensive Latino food. Today I was in the area and noticed I was close by so we stopped. It's a small house like restaurant. Indoor/outdoor seating, small space though but quick turnover. No frills, just good food. And fast, friendly and efficient service. It was packed on Taco Tuesday but they moved everyone's orders quick, I love that. I noticed the menu was half mexican half Salvadorian food. I also saw they have unlimited tacos for $19.95 on Taco Tuesday only. I ordered the Chipotle chicken burrito. It was excellent, so much flavor! Came qith refried beans, guac, rice and a green hot sauce for $13. It was a good portion. We also tried the steak flautas that also came qith the same sides. Our side was an Elote that was nicely grilled too. This place is great honestly with great prices. Parking is free but right depending on the day but a must go for a no thrills great meal.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while -- well we finally did it and we can't get enough! We opted to sit inside, which is small, but there is a patio area with more tables, so don't be intimated by the inside if all the tables are occupied! We shared 2 pupusas as appetizers; pork with beans & cheese and cheese only. They tasted authentic and are of good size. We could've just done with those for our meals. For my main I had the Churrasco Steak and my boyfriend had the Fried Pork Chunks. OMG the steak was probably the most tastiest flavorful steak I've had in a while and I couldn't get enough. It came with their seasoned rice, black beans and plantains and 1 corn tortilla. The corn tortillas were dense and just what the dish needed - it tied it all together. Service was friendly and the sangria was a treat. Can't wait to go back!

Cozy Mexican/Salvadorian restaurant. Great place for a quick/casual bite. I was greeted by friendly staff and seated right away. Food was great! The chipotle chicken burrito was packed with protein, flavor was good, beans paired nicely with the burrito. The steak tostada was my favorite. Steak is well seasoned. Definitely recommend! The chicken tamale was ok, I personally would not order again. I had a strong flavor of either star anise or cinnamon, not sure which but it kinda threw me off. The Paloma was refreshing! They have very affordable cocktails. I would 100% return!

We met friends for lunch here during the week. The restaurant is a separate small building. As we pulled up, I recognized it as a place I'd come to before -- right after they opened, but before I was doing yelp reviews -- with a girlfriend. The restaurant is small inside, but out back they have a lovely patio area with tables and chairs. We sat at a high-top table. They have a special lunch menu (ask for it if you are not given it) as well as their regular menu. Three of us ordered from the lunch specials and one from the dinner menu. The restaurant is part Mexican/Spanish and also cuisine from El Salvador. We were given a basket of chips and two cups of mild tomato salsas to start. I ordered their mahi tacos from the lunch special menu. The fried fish was lightly battered and came in soft flour taco shells with lettuce and pico de gallo, a mound of rice, and my choice of side (salad). There was also a small container of very spicy green sauce on the side. My husband got a combo lunch special. It had a beef soft taco, and a beef crispy tostada, refried beans, rice, and (what he enjoyed most) was the enchilada with cheese. Spicy tomatillo sauce on the side. Our friends had a tilapia fish with pico de gallo lunch special and a (dinner portion) steak with white rice, plantains, and black beans. They also shared one of the pork and cheese pupusas. For dessert, my husband and I shared a very good caramel flan. We had a nice time, catching up on conversation, and were not rushed even though inside the place was packed. Lunch prices are reasonable, portions are still a decent size, and the food was good.

This is a small Salvadorean / Mexican restaurant on Prospect in Oakland Park. There is some customer parking in front and to the side of the restaurant. They had a lunch menu, which they offered after we asked for it. Many items for $10... usually a protein and two sides. The rice and beans were good, my grilled tilapia was good. My husband's carne asada was very dry and not something that I would get again. The chips and salsa were free for the first basket...they were good...the chips were warm and the salsa chunky. I also ordered a pork and cheese pupusa...it was just OK....not my favorite thing to eat....but I wanted to try it...... Our server was nice and pleasant. We sat in the patio on the back of the restaurant. A nice pleasant ambiance. They gladly do separate checks.

3/11/25- Freestanding building off of Prospect and 44th ,parking is a little tough but if you know we got there early at 11:15 for lunch .I knew what I wanted. I had the steak burrito which comes with rice and refried beans and that green sauce .G had the mahi tacos three at a time $10 for lunch and the chips on the table with the salsa. The jasmine remembered me. I haven't been there and I don't know how long Jasmine you are the bomb, thank you so much means a lot . Your renovations are really nice. The back patio Big nice w/ coverage.

I consider five stars for food and ambiance. While there are numerous waitresses and employees, the service was not as quick as I would expect. The waitress was friendly and attentive once she showed up, but we waited some time for our drinks, and additional time to place our food order. The food was delicious. The ambiance is great; we sat outside in the back patio. I will be back and recommend the place, but I suggest you set realistic expectations of the delayed service.

I recently visited El Guanaco for the first time. This is a little quaint place with a handful of tables on the inside as well as a nice little outdoor courtyard dining area in the back, where we were seated for dinner. They have quite an extensive menu which even includes many Salvadorian dishes. I started off with a Michelada (with Modelo), and couldn't believe the size of the drink I was served for only $8. The homemade guac and chips were fresh and delicious. For my entrée, I got the Supreme Fajitas with steak, chicken, and shrimp, which were excellent. My friend went with the Churrasco steak (sorry, no pictures of her dish) which she enjoyed, though did acknowledge she's had better. Overall though, we both enjoyed our meals and the prices were reasonable with the total tab being $74. Being as it was a Tuesday, the place was packed and the service was a bit slow, so for my next dinner visit I'd probably go back on another day of the week or perhaps even for a mid-week lunch, as I noticed on the menu that they did have very inexpensive lunch specials on offer. Overall, this is a very solid spot I would recommend anybody to try.

Double steak burrito with rice and beans. One of the best burritos I've ever had!

La Casita Salvadoreña, ubicada en Commercial Boulevard, es el clásico hole in the wall que parece discreto por fuera, pero por dentro te da una bofetada de sabor (con cariño ). Las porciones son absurdamente buenas. No sales lleno... sales derrotado. Si no has ido, ve. Si ya fuiste, sabes que digo la verdad. Y si sales con hambre... hiciste algo mal.

We were trying to find a restaurant on the Dine Out Lauderdale list when we came across this El Salvadoran hidden gem! The only ways to truly know where is it located is to know the area, or happen to see the tall Jenaritos sign by the sidewalk. We walked right past it. Even when we returned, we weren't certain that was it because it, as well as the other shared businesses next to it were labeled. The true reveal was the sign. The sign was the sign! Be prepared to be able to speak a minimum of Spanish when ordering. We were greeted warmly, and started our order. If you don't use it, you lose it. Our Spanish was good enough to complete the order. We apologized for it afterward, but were assured it was good. There is nothing fancy going on inside. Order and pickup at the counter. A large menu is posted in plain view behind it. There is enough seating for a few groups of people. And Latin food items available for purchase just like at a bodega. If you order pupusas, which we did, we must inform you that you NEVER eat a pupusa with a utensil! You must ALWAYS eat a pupusa by hand. It is an insult bordering on blasphemy to natives, if you eat one using a fork. https://www.instagram.com/panchitaspupuseria/reel/C4T54qevpEb/ https://www.instagram.com/panchitaspupuseria/p/C3-4tdTOE0K/ We used our hands, but still did it wrong. Those IG posts show how do it correctly. Our order didn't take long, and we were ecstatic with the taste! La Molienda was our go to for pupusas until it closed after 2020. Jenaritos not only replaced it in our hearts, but also in our stomachs! It was the first time we were able to eat pupusa with curtido. Usually, the curtido is overly crisp or too pickled. Jenaritos make curtido just right! Going back to the start, YELP really should consider that category. Small businesses make up over 80 percent of businesses in the country. And small, family-owned restaurant that occupy small or obscure spaces are often among the best. There are hits as well as misses. It's the hits we want to know about! Jenaritos is our new go to for El Salvadoran fare. Hope it will be yours too!

As a salvadoreña I'm always looking for places with authentic salvadorean food, we noticed a lot of people coming in and out of this place and figured it was a good spot to try. We visited today for breakfast and ordered pupusas. I was so happy to know they offer "rice" pupusas! I hadn't had rice pupusas in years!! They're usually sold only in one area of the country itself in El Salvador so I was surprised to find them here! What a treat! Absolutely delicious! I also tried their regular corn based pupusas and were excellent as well. This is no fancy place, but its authenticity makes it charming and welcoming. Being at Jenaritos brings me back to my time growing up in El Salvador and visiting "Pupuserias." I would totally recommend this place and will be coming back over and over again.

It was ground lamb with onion, mint, and cilantro. I got their grilled shrimp. It also had shredded cabbage, , guacamole, and cilantro. I chose to have the chipotle aioli on the side. I really liked my taco. To share, we went with the birria. This was very tender shredded beef, cheese, onion, and cilantro. It was a bit messy and drippy, but very good. I never even needed to dip it in the side "sauce" that it came with. The side was esquite salad. A pasta salad with corn and other veggies like small pieces of green and red peppers. There was more pasta than anything else. This was just okay. They had a number of Mexican sodas to drinks in various flavors, agua fresca, and horchata. They had a bar there also on the side of the room with "adult" beverages, but it didn't open until the evening. My favorite of the things we had? My shrimp taco. Prices were fairly reasonable. In fact, I'd never had a pupusa when some time back I read another review from Melodie and decided to try them. We found a Pompano Beach restaurant near our other residence that we frequent with Salvadorean food and have now visited often. When we came in, I guess they could tell we were "gringos", so they switched servers to one with better English. But we usually can get by with our school Spanish okay. Most people dining here were Spanish speaking, but you should be comfortable if you don't know the language. My husband decided to have a pupusa with beef and cheese along with a salad. The salad came out first. It was a plate of lettuce with tomatoes and cucumbers and some ranch dressing. His pupusa came with coleslaw. And they put a container of thin red sauce on the table for us to share. He said he thought the pupusa was good. He also got a passion fruit drink, medium size, to have with his meal. I had to try the "squash flower" one (per Melodie's review) so I ordered the loroco pupusa. I looked this up to see what these flower buds looked like. As mentioned online, this unique green vegetable was a bit crunchy and reminded me of a broccoli stalk or asparagus spear. But it is unique to El Salvador and used in Salvadorean cooking in many different ways. There was more cheese than loroco in the pupusa. It was fine. I'm glad I tried it. But I also ordered a "mixed" pupusa (revueltas) of pork, beans, and cheese and this one was the better tasting of the two, I thought. Of course, I put the slaw on top of the pupusa and sauce on top of that (as I'd learned from Melodie) and that really makes the whole experience in one delicious bite. I didn't realize how large the pupusas would be, so I'd also ordered a coctail de camarones. Not to be confused with an American shrimp cocktail, I'd had these when they've been made like shrimp ceviche or like the one I had here. The cooked shrimp was mixed in a remoulade dressing (mayo based) and topped with pico de gallo and avocado pieces. It was very good. It was served in a sundae glass. And came with a package of crackers, as well. Now that we've come here to try their pupusas, I'd also like to try one of their signature soups and other meal specials. Prices are quite reasonable. Please note: This isn't fast food as everything is cooked to order, so just be prepared if you're really hungry for a short wait.
