I have been in Stavanger since March and this place is by far the best restaurant I have had the pleasure to eat at. Fantastic food, with flavors that will leave you thinking for food from many different countries, but I am sold on Greek food and can't wait for post covid world so I can go to Greece and experience first hand. I have been to Akropolis in Stavanger many times over the last 15 years, and have not been back in the last 8 years. When our initial intent for the evening did not pan out, we diverted to this place. It was our good fortune because it did not disappoint. The restaurant atmosphere feels authentic (I have never been to Greece) and the server was attentive and had good suggestions. Our starter was the melted feta and garlic pita bread - excellent. And off course I had to have lamb for a main dish. The Paidakia was great, ample portions and very tasty. My girlfriend had the souvlaki with lamb, chicken and pork varieties. We where a party of 9 (plus an infant in a stroller) looking for a nice yet not to price place that would serve a wide variaty of food. We where mixed vegetarians and meat lovers. This place had plenty of room for us and there was even space for the stroller. The food was delicious, they impressed with the vegetarian dish and all of us where quite happy with our dinner. We visited El Greko on a cold, wet, miserable Tuesday evening. We were so happy we picked Greek, the food was outstanding. I had the lamb chops and 6 of them showed up with pita bread, potatoes, and salad. I had to have help finishing them. My husband had the mixed grill and it was very good as well. it's always nice to have a good ethnic dining experience in norway because they tend to be rather scarce. akropolis did was a good experience when i took a friend to dinner last summer. the restaurant was pretty full when we arrived but we got a nice little table under the staircase which was a little away from the rest of the dining room. if you're making a reservation for a date where you want to be in a more secluded and quiet part of the restaurant, then you should request the table under the stairs :) it was amusing. didn't go upstairs but it looked like they have another dining floor on the 2nd floor as several guests were taken up the stairs. the menu has several lamb options as well as other meats and traditional dishes from hummus, tzaziki, mousaka etc. a few greek wines. both of us had a lamb dish with some hummus to start. i think i had a lamb shank and my dining companion had another type of cut. both dishes were super huge and filling. i had a glass of their house white which was light and crisp. for dessert we tried some type of deep fried ice cream of sorts. can't remember super clearly except that it was huge and messy and we could barely put a dent in it after the meal. interesting nonetheless. appetizer, two main dishes, two glasses of wine, soda, two coffees and two desserts ran the bill to about 800-something kr. for the food, it was not too shabby to be norway :) read more
