The portions were ginormous but their quality was superb. We started off with grilled octopus. Our server placed the dish and cut up the octopus in but size pieces. It was amazing. Each bite felt like it melted in our mouth. Then we had the main dishes. Cod fish Braga style and baked goat meat with rice cooked with the drippings from the goat. Both dishes we couldn't have enough. Definitely worth the visit.

It is a round beef pie (encased in a flaky puff pastry) that originated in Braga. This place is the oldest cafe that sells them (since 1796). Even more fascinating is that if you look down at the floor, there are clear tiles showing ancient ruins underneath. Such a neat little place. We ordered the iconic frigideira. It was warmed up and wrapped in paper neatly. The pie had lattice lines across the top. Inside was well-seasoned meat (not too fatty, not grisly at all) encased by a buttery, almost croissant-like round shell pastry. Other sweets and breads are sold in the case, as well as hot and cold beverages. A great place for a break or light meal.

The restaurant is said to have been serving them since 1796! The standard frigideira consists of a pastry shell with minced meat. Other varieties are available. I ordered a Frigideira mista, one with cheese and ham added. It made for a perfect lunch! The restaurant also serves other Portuguese dishes. The ruins of a Roman house discovered under the restaurant can be seen through glass in the floor. Definitely recommended when visiting Braga.

We stopped in for lunch at 12:30 with a guide to enjoy the traditional amazing cuisine. Luckily we had a Portuguese speaker as there aren't English menus or English speaking waiters-this is traditional food. There was even an old grandma in the kitchen so you know it's authentic. Most of the dishes serve two people although a few can be gotten in half portions. For the table we got 1 order of "duck rice" (don't know the Portuguese name and a half order of cod/potatoes baked in a cream sauce (like scalloped potatoes with cod). Both were delicious and of course some local Vinho verde wine with the meal. If you find yourself in Braga at lunch, be sure and give them a try. They were recognized by Michelin for quality in 2019 so that's another vote of confidence.
