I have mixed feelings about this place. I came here a few years ago to have a pair of espadrilles fixed because the jute was coming off. They fixed them, but the stitching they used was a slightly different color than what was on the shoes. I loved the shoes though so I was okay with it because it meant I could keep wearing them. I also took my favorite sandals here to be repaired when the strap got pulled out and they fixed them, but they messed up the bottom a little bit in the process. Once again though, I liked the shoes a lot and it was minor so it didn't bother me. Recently, however, I took a backpack here and asked if they could repair the mesh cup holders. They said yes and when I picked up the backpack a week later, they had put two brown leather patches on the cup holders (with poor stitching) instead of fixing the mesh. The backpack is a purple fabric and had no brown or leather on it before the patches so it looked really weird and was also not what I asked for. The work was also $20. I paid it because I don't like confrontation, but I ended up removing the leather patches at home and putting on my own patches that look better with the backpack. This experience will definitely make me think twice before returning here. read more

What an amazing store. If only I knew earlier that this store existed. The sole fell off of my favorite shoes, so I went looking for a cobbler. They fixed the broken shoe and reinforced the other shoe for a reasonable price in a reasonable amount of time. The owners are so kind and friendly. Unprofessional. Customer service was substandard. I had taken my boots in to get dyed and stated that there was no rush to get them done. The man at El Con Cobbler told me that they would have my boots finished by Saturday much to my surprise and excitement. He stated that they would give me a call to inform me when they were ready. I never received a phone call, so decided to call for myself before stopping at the store since it was a far drive for me. They stated that the boots were not done and would be finished by Tuesday afternoon. I asked if they could give me a call on Tuesday to let me know when they were done. On Tuesday afternoon, I had not received any phone calls so I decided to call them. When they answered they had me hold so that they could check and make sure my boots were finished. They stated that the boots were all done and I could come pick them up. I began to drive over to pick them up. They called me about 20 minutes later and then stated that they were in fact not ready. They stated that I would have to wait until Wednesday morning. I agreed and again asked if they could give me a call. I never received a call on Wednesday from them. Finally, I called them on Thursday and asked if they were done. They stated they were ready. When I brought up the fact that I was disappointed in the lack of communication, they replied that they had been communicating to me. The man would not look me in the eyes and stated that he had called my phone multiple times, had never stated that the boots would be done by Saturday (even though it was written on my ticket), and that my boots had been done for days. I am most disappointed that this man lied to me and that they could not be more open with communication. I would've been fine waiting longer as I understand that they are busy, but I would've appreciated more communication. If they were the ones to call me and apologize for pushing back the pick up date, I would've been much more understanding. read more

I took in two pair of custom boots for repair at the advice of a master bookmaker. One needed soles the other needed zippers replaced. I took my Louis Vuitton cosmetic bag in and asked them to replace the zipper. I got it back and it was repaired however five days later it was broken again. I took it back in and told them that I had asked them to replace the zipper. The man took it in the back looked at it and then said it's fixed. I told him I had asked for a NEW zipper and he continued to tell me it was fixed. It was frustrating since I did want a new zipper and he continued to tell me it was fixed which it was. I brought in two pairs of good leather sandals whose straps were falling apart. The next day, the straps were repaired for a very reasonable charge, allowing me to enjoy my sandals for several more years. Another time, I brought in another pair of shoes, and the gentleman explained that he wouldn't be able to fix them. I appreciated his honesty. I wholeheartedly recommend this business. I would like to preface by saying that I am giving 3 stars because I didn't actually do any business with the shop but I was happy with my experience and feel like they deserve a review. I went in last week with a pair of women's tall boots that I was hoping could be taken in from the calf area. After much research, it seemed like several shops were capable of doing so. I went in to ask if this was possible, but the gentlemen who worked on boots was not there at the time. The man I spoke with took my information and kept the boots so that the appropriate person could call me. I received a phone call within a few hours saying that my boots were unable to be altered and I was able to pick them up as soon as I could. While it was unfortunate that I couldn't get the service that I wanted done because of the style and make of the boot, I appreciated the service I received even though I didn't end up as a customer. I will be returning with all of my shoe needs in the future. read more

I was told by the owner that the cobbler would give me a call to see if my pleather duffle was fixable. Nobody called. I waited 5 days and called them. I was told by the owner, as he was speaking Spanish to the cobbler, which I understood, the total would be $50 for 5 rips and a handle attachment. I asked how long it would take for the repair and he said approximately a week. I called 4 days later to see if it could be finished on Saturday the 22nd, (that would give them an additional 2 days) my daughter wanted to take it with her, when she flew back to college. He told me that the cobbler hadn't even started the work and he would call me back. I was told the rips were not fixable, but they could attach the handle for $25. Half of our conversations were over the phone and other half text. I asked if the hardware would look the same since my hardware was missing. The cobbler told me to speak w the owner, since he was off of work at 3. It was 3:03! I simply asked him, why couldn't he just answer in a text. He insisted I speak w the owner. I called the next day and was told that the job couldn't be done. I asked him why he told me it would be done in a week and why would he quote me a price. He said that he quoted that price if it was fixable. Lies. I told him that is not what he said. He quoted me a price and told me it would be completed in a week! I told him that if they were unable to do the job, they should have told me that from the get go, not wasted my time. It was very inconvenient and unprofessional of them to not call me in the first place and then led me to believe they were working on it. All that time I could've found another cobbler and had it completed. Now I will have to do that, plus mail it out across country which will be costly. I have never dealt with such wishy washy bs from a business, in my life! These men are incompetent liars. Don't waste your time! read more

I called this shop with an unusual request: a new halter for a horse that needed to be made smaller. They suggested I bring it in for them to look at which I did. After evaluating it and coming up with a suggested approach, they said to come back in an hour which was great since we live 40 miles away! The fix was done beautifully and for a very reasonable price. The best part, it fit perfectly on the horse! I strongly recommend this business to anyone. Had a couple of house boot/slippers repaired for my mother. The soles were mostly off after a year of storage and never used. They quoted $20 over the phone and would not do it for less than $30 when I got there. Took 5 days and the work seems okay for now. Really hoping the repair will last for a while. Not sure if I will return here yet. The service left a lot to be desired. They tried to give me a random pair of cowboy boots at first and could not find anything to match the ticket they gave me. I had to point out on their shelf what I dropped off and then the return ticket seemed to match a little better. Wanted to buy some shoe glue from the cobbler to repair another small part of a different one of these but they didn't have anything like that. read more

Sadly I have to write a bad review although they were very nice. I brought in my satin wedding shoes, which had a few finger smudges and needed the bottoms redone. They weren't able to get the smudges off. In fact they looked even more smudged. They did redo the bottoms but the color did not blend well. They said they would be done the following week but when I showed up they were not ready. I'm kinda disappointed since all the other reviews are great. Maybe satin shoes aren't their specialty. I have to agree with the past reviewers, this is a place to go if you love your shoes but are not a gentle walker! :) I am a Birkenstock lover and need to get my Birks resoled quite frequently. This is my place in Tucson to get it done! I always have had a welcome greeting in coming in, and they have helped resolve whatever shoe issue I have had, and to my complete satisfaction. Me: "I want to replace the tips on these boots. They're getting old and hard." Staff: "Oh, kinda like me then! Hahaha!" I really hope that they greet each customer with a cobbler joke, because that put me in a really good mood and set the tone for their good service. Along with the tips on my heeled maroon leather boots, I needed to resole an old, fading pair of black suede boots. Without even asking, they reconditioned and restored the color of the suede; now they look brand new! I paid $55 total ($15 for the tips, $40 for the resoling). This is a fair price considering how much I paid for the boots themselves. I'll be able to keep wearing them for many years to come. They also carry low-priced leather conditioners, creams, polishes, and brushes - all of which are cheaper than what you'll find on Amazon. I had a good experience with El Con Cobbler and would recommend them. read more

Update: Unfortunately, the strap has come off again after only a couple of weeks :( ----------------------------------------------------- On one of my sandals, a strap came off and I wanted to have it reattached. I dropped the shoe off on a Monday and was told to pick it up on a Wednesday. The man who talked to me said it would be $6 to reattach the strap. I was like: wow, that's pretty cheap. So I asked them to also reattach part of the thin leather coating on the inner surface of the shoe that had come off. It turned out that they didn't even charge me extra for that second thing. I paid $6 total. Amazingly cheap. So far, the strap and leather coating are still firmly attached. I'll update in a couple months as to whether the strap comes off again or not. read more

Brought a pair of high-heeled boots, wedges and my short-heeled leather boots here for repairs. I am extremely hard on my shoes and usually bring them to be repaired after they're well overdue. El Con not only re-heeled all three pairs but also stitched two small tears in the wedges and waterproofed and shined my leather boots all for $40! Less than any one of those pairs cost. My only complaint is that after waterproofing the boots they did the first two shine coats but forgot to polish off the last one leaving a powdery white residue on the boots. This came off easily enough with a cloth after calling to ask how I could remove it and they even offered to reshine them for free. Also remember- CASH ONLY! read more

This place is horrible. DO NOT GO HERE! THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL now that they have a new location and owner/operator. I have been going here for years and will NEVER be back. They lost 2 pairs of my large shoes for two weeks. I was really nice and said I would come back to get the shoes when they are found (initially). I had to call repeatedly to see if my shoes were found. When he finally found my shoes, he was very rude and told me it was my fault because they were in a bag. Their pick up procedure is archaic and unorganized. They do not take CC cards either. You need to bring a money order or a check which would be fine, if they knew where my shoes were. Getting a money order is an inconvenience when your shoes may be lost. I'm definitely not giving a check with my address to this unprofessional person. He also said that I had to go through their shop to find my shoes and was very rude about it (before they were found). I could tell you more of the details of this terrible encounter, but I feel as though this is more than enough. I will NEVER be back after years of loyalty to the old operator/owner. read more

El Con Cobber offers first rate service at reasonable prices. I had a pair of heals replaced on a Gucci loafer which added new life to the pair. Most recently I have a pair of Church's of London Oxford shoes. Considering the price of the shoes, I was somewhat nervous of how they would be handled. The soles needed replaced. My concern with coblers in general is that inexperienced ones can tighten the size of the shoe, making it narrower. I have had this happen before and the shoe is deemed useless after receiving a bill for $40.00. El Con did it right..............thank you! read more

By far the worst professionalism I have ever experienced. I asked for a leather patch to be attached to my handbag. The stitching around the patch was very crooked and they left pen/pencil marks on the leather where they had centered the patch. Would not recommend this cobbler business at all. read more

Not cheap. I brought my shoes to have my heels repaired (they were worn out on one side) and my soles resticked: 30.00$ (almost the price of new ones). (I used to glue my soles in a shoe repair store in Belgium for free!) The price seems a bit expensive to me regarding the work done. I needed two leather handles replaced on my luggage, and they did it quickly and at a reasonable price. Not as nice looking as the originals, but I expect them to last for quite a while. They only take check and cash, though. So I had to make a quick trip to the bank. Who carries cash anymore? Happy to find them, though. Really didn't want to buy a new piece of luggage. I have to get my shoes re-heeled on a regular basis! Not sure why, but apparently I walk to aggressively or something. I love El Con Custom Cobblers. They are fast, nice, and do a great job every time. The only hard part is that is cash only but they do take checks. If you need to get your shoes resoled, heeled, or just polished up.
