Generally pretty good Mexican food. GREAT sopaipillas (this is a very important detail!) Really kinda weird Spanish rice, however - made with tomato soup, I think, and always a pass. Friendly and efficient service. Homey decor... read more

This place is a reason to check out what is away from the interstate exits. My husband and I really enjoyed the burritos we had here. The server was great, and I was impressed how clean and comfortable the cafecito was. I would be a repeat customer. read more

Loved it! I'm a foodie and very picky about food and service. They were so nice here and the food we ordered was amazing. We got the enchilada plate and the relleno. Spicy and authentic! The sopapillas are to die for. Will definitely be back. read more

El Caf is o.k. Grants isn't really known for it's culinary delights. To be honest I would take the extra hour to head to Albuquerque or Gallup depending on what direction you were heading to go eat. But if you are staying in Grants and don't want fast food this place will suffice. The Relleno plate is probably your best bet. read more

Best food for the price in Grants. The restaurant is updated and the staff is always friendly. I love the sopapillas with guacamole and green chile. Can't go wrong. read more

I was so looking forward to good NM food. Unfortunately I did not find it at El Cafecito. The salsa, rice, and red chile were all very sweet and tasted a little bit like ketchupy marinara. The chimichanga was very soggy. The chips and sopapilla dough were so bland....they were crying for salt. The cheese enchilada was also not good. My brother did like the chile rellenos, and the whole beans were good. Service and cleanliness were good. But, good beans don't make for a good meal. read more

If you are in Grant Nm this is probably the only non fast food or dennys in town. The proportions are good. The food is really inexpensive and not bad to boot. The green chili is not the best I have had but not bad it is mild but probably the best in Grant. read more

Great find off Hwy 40 in the new section of town, historic route 66. Good sopapillias with honey. Had the chili rellanos with red and green chili on top. Remember, this is New Mexico, so the chili is way different than you might think and it is HOT. read more

What a great lunch stop on our way from Flagstaff to Albuquerque! Thanks to Yelp we found out about this place. I don't understand any of the negative reviews, perhaps different circumstances. What we experienced on a Friday afternoon at 2 pm was friendly staff, quick service and really good food. My boyfriend an I each ordered the stuffed sopapilla, filled with seasoned ground beef, beans and guacamole topped with red chile sauce. We wanted to try the green sauce, too, so we got a side of that and one extra plain sopapilla each. Both sauces are really really tasty and not too hot. We kept a small piece leftover to top with honey to give that a try too. Delicious! This was my very first taste of NM chile and I was impressed. Perhaps I will eat better examples during this vacation but this experience did not disappoint. I completely recommend this quaint little diner in an easy to pass by town. It's worth the stop! read more

El Cafecito - Mexican Near Me - Grants, New Mexico

I know this is Grants, but I expected better in New Mexico. There was nothing special about the chips and salsa and the enchilada was made with some kind of yellow cheese. I'll pass next time. The waitress was very nice. read more

My favorite place to eat in NM :) their Mexican pizza and sopaipillas are my favorite meal! Their green chile is great for me since I'm not used to hot chile. read more

This place is so delicious!!! We are a touring band and make it a point to eat here every time we come through. Finding a great place to eat and relax can be a challenge while on the road, but El Cafecito makes it so easy when driving through New Mexico. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner the food is amazing (try the sopapillas), everyone is friendly, and the place is always spotless! read more

Ate here while our tires changed across the street. The restaurant was very clean, fast service, red and green chili awesome New Mexican food!! Easy on and off freeway, great pit stop while traveling. read more

Great food, reasonable prices and super fast service. We were really impressed with the authentic SouthWest food. The Flautas were delicious. The red sauce was flavorful and not too spicy and the green sauce had a big kick. We will be back. read more

Took a chance based on the reviews and ratings. Came in close to close on a Monday evening. We didn't even know they were closing, the service was great, and the food was some of the best Mexican I've had. The server was knowledgeable of the food and provided good recommendations. The guacamole was amazing. read more

Excellent meal! Clean Restaurant and restrooms. Service was excellent! The waitress was friendly.

I have to say, Grants is a small quaint town and the restaurant selection is scarce to say the least. Thank goodness for this place, otherwise we may have been subjected to eat a mediocre meal. This place is a GEM! Living in Albuquerque, you taste a variety of foods from the authentic "New Mexican" to the knockoff stuff they claim to be "New Mexican." We soon came to realize the locals refer to this place as "El Caf." It's awesome. We went for both breakfast and dinner. My husband claims to be a simple eater, but picky is more like it. The fact that he LOVED the chili, expressed that the sopas were fluffy and delicious, and the fried green beans were "OMG!" says A LOT. If you are heading West on I-40 and decide to stop somewhere to eat, make sure you turn off in Grants and eat at El Caf. The very short detour is worth it and you will get the value for your buck. Great food!! All fresh made. We arrived at the height of the lunch rush but we're greeted and seated quickly & cheerfully. We had a slight wait for our food, but could tell the entire staff was hustling to feed the crowds. The food was hot and delicious. Top notch all around! read more

Nice inexpensive lunch, like the spanish rice. Portions are good and all the sauces have bite; flavor but no flame thrower. Place is clean plenty of locals. read more

Five stars. The food was delicious, prices were ridiculously low, and best of all, they seated us after they had already hung up their closed sign! I had the tacos, some of the best I've had, and I lived in Arizona for 35 years. My girlfriend had tostadas. Be sure to order a side of green chile salsa to go with your meal. It's only an extra buck and well worth it. read more

Great service, prices and food. Nice local eatery. I often travel 40 miles to eat there! Food tastes as good as it looks.

Ok I live in NM, I know what real New Mexican cuisine is and this is not the real deal. I was told by two locals that this was their preferred stop for NM cuisine. I found it to be subpar, the rice was runny and the refried was from a can. Portions were small, the chimy was leathery and the Sopas were cold. read more

Stopped during our road trip. The place was very clean. Food was not so great. Tasted like it was microwaved to us. Did not taste like authentic Mexican food to us. read more

On our way down Route 66 we started getting hungry just before Grants, NM, so we punched in food on our GPS. The first few places we attempted to go to were no longer in existence, so we decided to go to El Cafecito. They had by far the best food we stopped and had on our trip down Route 66! We wanted to try something authentic to the areas we drove through and El Cafecito satisfied our quest in New Mexico. Being from Wisconsin, my family doesn't eat Latin cuisine very often, or speak Spanish, so we were unsure of what some of the things on the menu were; however, the waitress was super friendly and patient and took the time to describe what things were so we could make the right decision on what we wanted. I wish there was a Cafecito in Wisconsin because I would eat there multiple times a week if I had the chance. read more

Great, reasonably priced food and great staff. Nice new building too. One of the nicest places on this side of New Mexico!

Probably the best Mexican to be had in Grants, which isn't saying much. I had the meat enchiladas and found them to be dry and bland. The Mexican rice tasted like they just dumped tomato saute in white rice. Pouring both green and red chile sauce over the whole mess helped a-lot. If you are expecting great food you will be disappointed. The staff is great though and the restaurant was clean. Maybe I just caught them on a off night . read more

What a great place for breakfast! El Cafecito is warm, family atmosphere, and great food and fellowship! Keep up the good work

This place is the A1 best. I can't say enough about the homestyle quality food and the kindness of the staff. We were passing through to California when we stopped and gave it a try. Were we very pleasantly surprised! The food we ordered was ala carte but the taste was SOOO good from the first to the last bite. And I MEAN it. I have had some good Mexican food but this was worth the drive in to Grants. With this good a food you would think it pricey but it isn't at all. We both ate and had our sodas with dessert for only $19.75. So worth it! I had the Chili Relleno ala carte and my friends ordered tacos. She was as impressed as I was. The Raspberry Crush was delicious and the food mouthwatering. Joseph was the cook that day and I went back to give him a personal tip just because his cooking is so very good. He has talent! Next time you pass by Grants, NM, DON'T pass up this diamond mine of a restaurant. You'll wish you had enjoyed it. So go Enjoy It! It really is worth the extra miles into town. read more

To start I asked for a burrito with rice, beans, guac and green sauce in my burrito, standard order. The burrito came out with only the meat in it, on a pool of some terrible looking sauce with rice in a red sauce that I can only describe as ravioli from a can. The beans were decent nothing special. Another member of my party had a chicken burrito with sauce, lettuce, tomato, and guac in the burrito, rice on the side, standard order I would think. Instead the same set up as the previous burrito was brought. But we were very hungry and did not complain about the mistake until we open the burrito and the chicken smelled like dog food. Neither of us ate our meals and we simply wanted to leave. We complained told them we did not touch our food and did not want to pay for it. What I assume was the owner came out and said if we did not pay he would call the police. At this point we are just amazed at how ridiculous the situation was and told him to go ahead and we would show the police our untouched plates. As we wait for the police I bring up the fact that the orders had not even came out right and he told us that they do not make burritos like that, That what he makes is " New Mexican" cuisine. Well I did not know that by "new" he was making food that does not resemble any type of Mexican I have ever had. The police came and well it's a small town so they told us to pay or we would be arrested for dine and dashing. So we start to pay the bill and notice they over charged us on both items and refused to change it. I wish we would had just stopped at Taco Bell. If your not from this town and like real Mexican stay very far from this place. Did I mention they showed up with three cop cars... Mind blown. read more

El Cafecito - ... - Mexican Near Me - Grants, New Mexico

Ive visited grants several times and El Cafecito is always the go to spot! I just spent a week there and the food was great as usual. The best part was our waitress. My friends are not very familiar with NM Cuisine and she could have had some fun giving them a hard time, but instead she was always friendly and patient with us. The specials rock, the chile is solid, and just a great hometown atmosphere. read more

Excellent breakfast at very reasonable prices. Coffee tastes great, sopapillas are light, El Cafecito Special (omelette with ground beef, smothered in cheese and chile) is delicious. We stumbled upon this place while searching for breakfast and knew it would be good when we saw all the local trucks in the parking lot. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are attentive and friendly. Will definitely return! read more

The owner is rude when she gets complaints. We were traveling through and they sat us next to a place they were cleaning w/ chemicals. When confronted Angie the owner's wife was rude and refused a refund. We will never go back. So much for representing Grants. This place sucks. read more

I had the nachos ,they were chips out of a bag with ground beef and bean over them, lettuce, a scoop of sour cream and guacamole, the melted cheese was caso out of jar, this was like nachos at 7/11, not what you expect out of a cafe in New Mexico. They were not bad just disappointing. For good Mexican food this is not the place. read more

The owner came to my table and scolded me because I had asked for no cheese on my enchiladas due to my allergies. Came to my table plopped the plate down and said "any mexican restaurant ive ever been to puts cheese on there enchilladas, and in front of a lobby full of costumers confronted her waitress in a very aggressive manner. If one plate of food makes that much of a difference, business must not be so good! terrible service! will never go back read more

I really like this place and, to be honest, I'm not 100% sure why. There's just something about it. The food is pretty good, especially the green chile. There isn't much "atmosphere" and they don't serve alcohol. But it's not expensive at all, the food is consistently pretty good, and the customer service is consistently pretty good. Also, the sopas are excellent. read more

Child Relleno Plate is fantastic...and service is excellent. Hit the spot after 9 hours of driving.

My wife and I had lunch here today. For a non-fast food this cafe is probably the best in town. Other places we looked for are closed or out-of-business. There were a lot of locals here today and what we had was very good. The prices are very reasonable and the amount of food you get is plentiful. The green chile is very good as well as the red chile and chips. I had a bean & beef burrito and it was very flavorful and tasty with the meat fresh and done just right. My wife had the sopapilla filled with beans and beef and it was very good as well. I got a 35 cent sopapilla it was excellent with drizzles of honey from the squeeze bottle that is on every table. We will stop here any time we are in the Grants, NM area. read more
