Una de las librerías más bonitas del mundo. El edificio fue construido en 1919 como un teatro. A finales de la década de 1920, el teatro fue reconvertido en cine, y en 2000 se habilitó como una librería de la cadena Ateneo. En su interior, una impresionante selección de libros, discos de vinilo y CDs. En lo que fue el escenario, se ha montado una cafetería donde sirven un café increíble y deliciosos postres. Allí también puedes leer los libros que más te gusten. Es mejor llegar a la hora de apertura. Al mediodía, la librería se llena de habitantes locales y turistas.

I love visiting bookstores when I am traveling and this truly is one of the most beautiful bookstores I have ever been to. No entry fee and you can walk around and admire the beautiful space. We stopped by the cafe and enjoyed the views of the space from there. Also after a long time I found a spot that sold cds and vinyl records. Highly recommend! read more

Acclaim to "the world's most beautiful bookstore", I can see why. This large multi flood bookstore is hosted inside of an old 1920s play house. Quite a unique vibe and a huge selection of books! They have a cafe in the back as well. Our server was friendly. Free entry! Enjoy. read more

The most beautiful book store in the world. An old theater painstakingly restored and repurposed. It's truly gorgeous and worth a visit, even though you will be jostling other tourists to take pictures. Wish they had more titles in English. read more

Now I want to be very clear in my review. First el ateneo is the most beautifully converted books stores in the whole world...hands down. Multi level and amazing views from all angles of this beautiful establishment. Now from a bookstore point of view...this is a total tourist trap. The books and music are extremely overpriced in comparison to a book store here in the United states. I was shocked at their prices. Way too expensive. But please keep in mind that the majority of people who come here don't buy books they come for the spectacle that is el ateneo. It truly is a tourist stop if your here in Argentina. read more

This is probably "the best" record shop you can find in Buenos Aires. The owners are old school,…read moreknowledgeable, very nice and honest. They only sell well maintained used LP records and they charge a fair price for them. They carry a large variety of rare gems for those who like to collect (like me). Be advised "cash only", so bring a large stack because you won't live empty handed. I highly recommend any vinyl collector to visit to this store; you won't be disappointed.

What a great place. To call it a bookstore doesn't do it justice. Walrus organizes classes…read more(everything from poetry to writing workshops to literature courses covering different themes) and also has this nifty book nook. There is a little bit of everything here, from old and new and spanning lots of different categories from non-fiction, fiction, art books, children's books and more. All in english but you know that by now. They publish the new books they have in on Facebook so you can go ahead and reserve what you like, some popular and sought after titles go fast as the expat community tends to snatch them up. You can also trade in your books, Walrus will buy them and you can turn around and stock up. It's a good way to trade in old reads that you don't want to hang on too and it helps the shop keep stocked up with lots of options. Lovely owner and great concept. The classes are a must to check out, heck they even have classes targeted towards Spanish speakers looking to practice their English.
