I really enjoyed this little old dessert shop, which was right around the corner from our hotel…read more(Hotel Indigo). Service was friendly and welcoming despite my limited German language skills. There were a few other guests there, just sharing a gelato or small cup of coffee. I got one scoop of the Gianduia flavor gelato (hazelnut and chocolate-- similar to Nutella) in a waffle cone and it was the perfect way to end the evening.

This is easily the best tasting Ice Cream in Düsseldorf, and most likely in the world…read more The place ahs history, having been around for more than 90 years. It is run by a pair of brothers, one a bit chubbier and more jovial, and th eother skinny and a bit more stern faced. It seems like the skinnier brother si the mastermind behind mixing thier ice cream. They make it on premises with machines that are real old school. Vanilla is nothing more than milk, sugar, vanilla bean and eggs,a nd it is smooth and perfectyou can tell they use purer and better ingredients than anyone else. The decor could be considered in need of updating, but i like the neighbourhood cafe charm of the place. I go there at any opportunity, and their vanilla is the most vanillaish I ever had, their chocolate is the darkest and smoothest, their version of straciatella is called Granatella has the msot chocoalate chunks you could imagine,a dn their creation Torrone, whcih is basically the ingredients in the Toblerone Chocolate melts in your mouth. I am not the biggest fan of thier fruit flavoured ice creams, but the milk and chocolate ones are easily the best available.

I love gelato. When I lived in Venice for a month, I was sometimes having gelato three times a day…read more It was out of control. So I've had my fair share of quality gelato. While this gelato shop is not in Italy, there are a good number of gelato shops in Germany. Dolce & Gelato was close by, so I stopped by for a pre-dinner treat. Service (1/5): This soured the experience big time. You can order at the counter or sit at one of the tables on the patio. There are also a few seats inside. There were no seats available on the patio, and while there are some inside, there's no A/C and it was June so that wasn't happening. They have a weird policy where you can only order gelato in a cone if you're ordering takeout. If you're sitting at a table, you can only order gelato in a cup. What the heck?! This makes no sense. I like my gelato in a cone, so I don't understand the weird policy. I always get annoyed by a lack of logic or reason. Ambiance (3/5): If there's a seat available on the patio or you're getting it to go, all is good. If you're sitting inside, I don't recommend it. No A/C and tight quarters. Drinks (N/A): I didn't order any drinks. Food (2.5/5): I went with the medium, which comes with two flavors. Amarena and watermelon (which I thought would be perfect and refreshing for the summer). Unfortunately, this gelato is not up to Italian standards. It was mediocre at best. It lacked the burst of flavor that you expect from some quality gelato. They have a nice selection of flavors, but they are lacking in the flavor department. Given the rest of the logistical hurdles, not worth it in my mind.
