I had high hopes for this place after seeing how packed it was on a Sunday afternoon.
I stood in line, studied the menu as i waited, and felt ready to order when I got to the counter. It all went wrong from there.
I had to repeat my order 3 times to the women at the counter. I realized finally that I was mispronouncing caramel (saying the American version Kar-mel), which seemed to annoy her. Once it was known that I wanted a karmel Becher, she grabbed a cup and asked me a question. I didn't understand what she said, as I wasn't expecting more information to be needed beyond the order. She repeated herself twice, and finally another worker told me politely (in English) that I needed to choose three flavors and pointed to the menu wall behind them. I told the lady then what flavor I wanted, and then tried to indicate that I just wanted that one. She rolled her eyes at me, looked down at the ice creams in front of her and proceeded to point to each one and pronounce their names loudly and slowly, as if that would help me choose a flavor (I may not speak German well but I've lived here long enough to read it).
Finally I gave in and chose two other flavors. She finished my cup, I paid her and left the place to sit and eat my ice cream in peace. It was hard to enjoy as I was frustrated, embarrassed, and now had extra flavors in the cup that I didn't really want.
Over all this experience kind of ruined my day. Also, there was not much flavor to the ice cream, much to my disappointment. I feel as though I could have chosen any three flavors and it still would've tasted the same. After this visit, I feel no need to come back here and risk such service again for a disappointing reward.
The only thing going for this place is the fact that it's the only once cream parlor around, it's prices are reasonable (if you keep your order simple it can be even considered cheap), and it's very cute with lots of seating inside and outside. read more
