Can't really choose to go to a Bürgerbüro or not of course. I went to this one because I moved to…read moreDüsseldorf and had to register myself. The registration process is very simple. Making an appointment at the Bürgerbüro as a person who has a job is very difficult. Their hours are ridiculous for any working person (only open until 1PM on Wednesday and Friday??) and it was ridiculously difficult to make an appointment in advance as they have some weird system where a certain batch of appointments are released online and per phone every morning for the same day. Online and via the phone I couldn't get an appointment within the next 2 weeks, which is ridiculous because I'm pretty sure you are supposed to register within 7 days of moving, but ok. I went to the Bürgerbüro right when they opened and went to the machine in the entrance and received a ticket for an appointment for 11AM, (4 hours later). I really have no idea how older people, who may not use the internet or an automated phone system, are supposed to make an appointment? As I was sitting there at 11 waiting for my appointment, I saw 3 different older couples walk in and couldn't get an appointment from the machine (as there were none left for that day and no possibility from the machine to book in advance), and there is no person on the phone or even outside of the doors that they could speak to to make an appointment. The whole thing is automated, and inconvenient.
