This historic former monastery dates back to Romanesque times, it was consecrated in 945, the first Benedictine convent of female tradition in Barcelona. Outside of the walls of Barcelona, it suffered attacks by Arab Empire soldiers, fires, expulsions, the nuns eventually moved in 1879 to Sarria-Sant Gervasi. The nuns were mostly daughters of the local nobility. Sant Pere is highly restored, but you can see the original temple in it. Check out the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, and the octagonal original bell tower (there were two, the other didn't survive). The six bells in that tower resonate through the Ciutat Vella district, and if you can climb the bell tower it offers a truly unforgettable view of Barcelona. Near the Palau de la Musica (which is how I stumbled across it). Here's a good site: https://www.parroquiadesantperedelespuelles.org/historia/ read more
