I've been coming to this restaurant for at least 8 years and I'm extremely disappointed in how I was treated today. The most pressing issue is I was given pork instead of beef like I ordered. This is absolutely not okay in anyway, I tried to get someone to come look and confirm for me what type of meat it was but they were very rude and just dismissed me. I've gotten this same thing for years so i obviously know what it's supposed to look like.It was a 10 dollar bowl and I had places to be so I didn't bother to keep pressing them or asking for a refund again. I decided to use the self ordering kiosk today because they were especially busy, to my surprise one of the servers comes to me and proceeds to scold me for using that method and not waiting in line after to grab my drink and utensils. Mind you there is nothing posted saying this and what's the point in self ordering if I still need to wait in line? I come to this place to lighten my mood and to find comfort in one of my favorite foods and I'm very disappointed that they treated me this way especially because I've been a loyal customer for years. This place serves the most closest to Asian style foods, you would ever find in Indy. Have seen lot of recommendations from other groups for this restaurant, and I recently had a chance to visit. Food was phenomenal. Ordered Thai fried rice, Szechuan beef combination plate, and beef stick. Thai fried rice was top notch. Wifey loved it on her first bite. Szechuan beef and beef sticks were really good too, however the fried rice that comes with combo plate was pre-prepared. Staffs did tell me about that while I ordered so that I shouldn't be surprised. I really appreciate the staffs, who took my order over phone and answered every single question I had and offered to swap few things from combo plate. Also to mention, this restaurant is pocket friendly. I guess this is the lowest you could find in Indy after recent price hikes in other Asian restaurants. Though this place is a kind of a fast food restaurant, their ambience looked really good. I did go for takeout, but I recommend dine in experience. I have heard about this place for years now. I happened to be on this side of town heading home, and passed by so I stopped to get dinner to go. I was so excited that I bought a variety of items. Plus, I was really hungry. Not the smartest way to order food to go, or grocery shop. FOOD iIS A 1 STAR, it was terrible Not just 1 item but everything for different reasons which I will explain. I ordered the chicken egg foo young. This item is normally round. This was stuffed in a large rice container full of a ton of sauce. Terrible you couldn't even get it out whole. The fried rice was under cooked it was hard and crunchy. I ordered 2 egg rolls it had a funky after taste like bad odor, and soft not crunchy. I will count the softness to getting it to go. Next I ordered spring rolls very chewy and fishy taste. Beware which I have ordered and eaten spring rolls from a ton of places. The peanut sauce is not sweet or thick. It's runny with a little spice to it. Terrible I ordered Crab Rangoon this was just filled with soft cream cheese, not a Crab cream cheese taste. So disappointed. Lastly, I ordered #10 from the board. It is written that it has a variety of meat. The variety is finger nail shrimp, chicken, and beef. All of the meat has this "lightly" fried breading on the outside of the meat. The noodles had no sauce, the noodles were sticky together. Oh my goodness one of the worst dishes in this meal. When you order the egg rolls and Crab Rangoon it's not made fresh it's in the window in a metal bucket for the workers to put in a bag to go or if you are eating there on a plate. Yes, this place has Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai food to order. I never knew or thought the food to ever be similar in taste or in cooking. After visiting and eating at this place I really think they should stick to Chinese food because everything seems to be fried that they cook. SANITIZERS AND MASK WEARING 2ND STAR they had hand sanitizer at different areas in the restaurant. It was a very clean restaurant. You order at the counter and either wait to go or sit down and the food is brought to your table. The place is extremely busy, and the food is fairly priced. The Pho was top shelf. As good or better than most I have had. However the glass noodles and shrimp were severely under/over cooked as they were very mushy. They also had a sweetness to them that was strange. Plentiful and had an abundance of egg, green onions and fewer shrimp than I am used too. I believe ~$7.49 per plate which comes with the main entree, choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup. All three of us chose the egg drop soup which was velvety and hot. They also offer two pieces of crab rangoon or an egg roll as part of their lunch special. We had a plate of sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and two pieces of crab Rangoon. A plate of teriyaki chicken with two pieces of crab Rangoon. Then a plate of Kung Pao chicken with an egg roll. I also added a beef stick and an a Thai iced coffee. I thought what was pretty neat were all the sauces on the table and the amount of items that the restaurant offered. They offer Chinese and Vietnamese food! After hearing that this Egg Roll number 1 was in the top 100 restaurant for Yelp we had to try it. It was very busy. Most people were doing carry out but we decided to dine in. I ordered one of the $7.99 dinner specials. It came with a entree, a cup of soup, a side and rice. I went with the chicken and broccoli, hot & sour soup, an egg roll and fried rice. The hot & sour soup was neither hot or sour. It was more sweet. It is an item that I would not order again. The chicken and broccoli was okay. It didn't have much flavor. Same with the fried rice and egg roll. Everything but the soup was okay, nothing wrong with it just not the best I have ever had. My mom ordered the general tso's chicken and it had a teriyaki sauce on it that was not spicy. It was good but not general tso's chicken. I prefer the Egg Roll #1 at 31 and Smith Valley in Greenwood. All of the awesome reviews drove me to this local establishment on a Saturday afternoon. The staff was friendly and immediately directed me to their menu and photos on the wall of the dishes they offer. I got the sweet and sour chicken and Vietnamese spring rolls to go. Wait time was about 10 minutes. They thanked me for visiting and I was on my way. The first thing I noticed was how well the food was packed. The peanut sauce for my rolls and complimentary wonton soup where stacked in the bag and separated by a piece of cardboard. This helped to prevent spillage. I ended just eating the sweet and sour chicken and became full off that. The next day I ate the rest of my food and it was still tasty. I ordered takeout from Egg Roll Number 1 after seeing the hype of the restaurant, which was recently recognized as a top 100 Yelp restaurant of the year. I have no clue how they earned this designation, based off my experience. The servings are very small (particularly the sides of rice, comparing to other standard Chinese takeout places) and lacked much flavor. We ordered the appetizer combination, which was good but nothing special, just a bunch of fried appetizers (including crab Rangoons with barely any filling) and a beef stick that was a little overcooked. My General Tso's chicken was the worst of the order; the chicken was way overcooked and undersauced. My girlfriend's Beef Lo Mein was the best thing that was ordered, though I'll note the beef inside was also overcooked (seeing a theme here?). The pickup process was very difficult as well. I'll cut them some slack that they were very busy on a Saturday night, but the employees didn't do anything to facilitate lines/any formal ordering/picking up process, and the restaurant wasn't laid out in a way for intuitive queuing. It was basically a cluster of people in a free for all, relying on "who do I think was here before me?" courtesy. To cap it off, in my 10-15 minutes in the restaurant, I saw two people get served without wearing masks, which on 3/6/21 was very inappropriate in my eyes. I usually would not care at all about such things, but with such a busy restraint (not anywhere close to social distancing among those picking up takeout/placing an order), I would have preferred the employees insist on wearing a mask, which is complaint with the current statewide mask mandate. In summary, average to below-average food and a frustrating takeout experience. Given their hype, I'll probably give the restaurant one more chance for takeout and see if they can make up for this experience, but I don't know if I'll go with another Chinese dish. Definitely not repeating anything from this order. They have a ton of Asian options on their menu, so one of those is something I'll try. read more
