All would have been perfect, if it weren't for the fact that the manager made his rounds greeting the tables and he was NOT wearing a mask. This place is really great and a welcome surprise to University St. in Denton. Newly renovated, its reasonably priced and you can tell they use quality ingredients. I'm gluten free, and it makes me incredibly happy that a diner like this has gluten free PANCAKES. it's absolutely delicious. The hot sauce, too, goes great on everything. My only complaint is the coffee. Maybe I'm biased, but I'd prefer Bookish or West Oak Coffee considering it is roasted locally and tastes much much better :) Until they switch, I'll stick with orange juice ;) read more

Just enough of each spice and heat to compliment the hash browns. Seniors are encouraged to order from the kids' menu if you have a smaller appetite. Almost all the selections start with a $9. I would have liked my poached eggs cooked a bit more. But, my mistake for not requesting a well cooked egg. Service was excellent. I've been coming to breakfast here for a while, and it's always great. I decided to come in and try a burger for lunch, and it was fantastic! Friendly staff, good food, my waitress Katy was very sweet. I would recommend this place for breakfast and lunch. Try the Texas Burger. The food is absolutely delicious, but prepare yourself for woeful incompetence when it comes to service. They always have one poor girl running the hostess stand as well as the register, so inevitably everything backs up and they don't turn tables nearly quickly enough. However, in a curious irony, the busboys will be watching you like a hawk and trying to take the fork out of your hands the minute you appear to finish your last bite of food. The management either doesn't care, or has no idea - because while I appreciate their upbeat, happy, smiling demeanor... it makes them come across as oblivious while they turn customers away for having too long of a wait while there are multiple tables sitting open. If you can get past the annoyance of actually getting a table, the food is really good and the actual servers seem to mostly have their shit together. But, if you don't enjoy spending 30-45 minutes waiting for a table and another 10-15 minutes trying to pay for your food - go elsewhere. read more

Went with my dad before his surgery and we had an amazing experience my server (autumn) was so sweet and took care of my needs. I love the way the restaurant is set up and as a server myself I would say I would personally work there. Everything is clean and the service was quick they always made sure to check on me if I needed coffee or if the food was tasting good. Just such an overall good experience and I will definitely be making my way back here again! I do have to say something that does bother me is the way the owner will reply to some of these reviews. It was OK.....nothing special. Started out with high hopes because the coffee was actually good, and not the weak watery stuff. Ordered the Ole' Omelette, which has chorizo, onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos and I added avocado. You would think this omelette would have a little kick from the chorizo and jalapeno, but there was none and I don't have a very high tolerance for spice. Not a lot of flavor. Got a side of salsa. Don't think it was made in-house. Tastes like warm Pace salsa off the chip aisle. I asked for grilled onions in my hash browns and got a sprinkling of onions that grazed the grill thrown on top. Wouldn't get the pancakes again. I make better pancakes at home. Service was good. My server was Jennifer. My toddler spilled my coffee on the table and I'm certain that several other staff saw as they walked by and none offered additional napkins or assistance. That's fine, as I don't expect anyone to clean up after my child, even when there's moderate mess. However, I had to get up and go to the coffee area to ask for napkins and was handed one napkin by one of the girls working back there. She never even bothered to look up, even when I asked for more than one. She begrudgingly gave another 2 napkins. Didn't get assistance until my Server came back by and saw what happened. This is not somewhere that I have to visit again, but I think I'm harder to please than most, so if you think IHOP is palatable, this is probably on par with that. read more

What can I say. Very bland and generic. After reading reviews my wife and I expected much more from the food and atmosphere. This is a place you want take your grandparents who want a basic boring American breakfast. I'm pretty sure the sausage patties come from frozen. My wife's Benedict was very bland, the hollandaise sauce didn't taste made from scratch. The coffee tastes like cheap generic Folgers coffee. There are fantastic local coffee shops in Denton, you have to up your coffee game! All in all. Edible, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is boring, typical boring diner look. Save your money and go elsewhere for a all around better experience. read more

First and hopefully last time eating here. The food was extremely bland in both meals. They refused or were unable to make substitutions to my meal, and they have a larger than usual up charge for dietary accommodations. We only saw our waitress for 30 seconds as our meal was brought to us, and when we responded kindly but honestly to the hostess about our experience, we only got an "oh." The only redeeming quality was that the establishment was very well kept and who I assume to be the manager checked on us and got us a water refill. We keep trying other places after church and always end back back here. First to point out the drawbacks... there is usually a wait to get in, which means food is good. The time from when you order till you get your food is long. Ok that's all the bad stuff. The wait staff is friendly and responsive. The owner is always there making sure the restaurant runs perfectly. He's aware of abnormalities within. He talks to the patrons and is willing to jump in and help (or at least let the waitstaff know). The food is great. Best turkey bacon and sausage in town! The grits are amazing, which till now never liked them. Our order is never wrong. My husband usually orders "burnt" hash browns because any other restaurant hash browns are barely crispy. Well they literally burnt them. That has never happened, ever. So now he orders crispy here and burnt at other places. One of our favorite go too and will always be back. read more

We would try again though. After another try I would say that my 3 star rating stands. Bad experience. My boyfriend and I waited 15 minutes to order, and then it took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. There were tables throughout the restaurant waiting just as long as us, and they weren't that busy. We had plans with family, were running late because of the restaurant, and wanted to cancel our order and pay for our coffees. One of the first things I noticed was how clean everything is and the details: lace paper doilies for the cups and how well-organized all the condiments are. Nice decor and atmosphere, kind-of a soothing modern retro. Greeting and seating was prompt. Staff is attentive and friendly without hovering. I had a pretty basic breakfast: corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and pancakes. All was prepared well. Price is competitive with any of the chain breakfast places. I also got a cranberry juice for $2.99 (I didn't know it was non-refillable), not worth the money because it came straight out of a can. Overall I paid $13 for a meal I didn't really enjoy. This place is FUN! The waiters and waitresses are mostly UNT students, so tip em well. Really good, homemade food. Fluffy omelettes, well-cooked bacon, nicely seasoned hash browns. ALSO-GLUTEN FREE pancakes that were awesome. They have GF toast too, but I didn't try it. My daughter had the Nutella crepes...here's her input: "I wish they had screwed up my order so I could eat the wrong order and order a new one! :)". My mom wanted a gluten free pancake and to switch that for a regular pancake was $3-4. You can't even change you side do you want something else.
