We were 4-year clients of the former Haney CPA out of Indianapolis, which was recently aquired by Whitinger - an unfortunate investment for them. They recently had a long-time employee leave who essentially held the entire firm together. This past year's return experience has been a nightmare. The firm is struggling to keep up with deadlines and, worst of all, acting like they've never had a relationship with us before and seem to know nothing about our business/industry, made obvious through questions they've had to ask during the return preparation process, etc (we've been with them for 4 years now...). We turned in our tax prep documents over a month prior to the deadline to file of April 15th. It was April 10th when I decided I better follow up to see where our return was. The firm must have completely forgotten about us as it was only after I called that they started working on our business and personal returns for 2018 (5 days to get everything done for a sizable business and personal return). I was not feeling confident in their abilities or organization at this point, but I tried to stay positive. After many follow ups and e-mails, we finally had a rushed and hurried return from the firm on April 14th around 7:30 PM - only hours to file and/or pay and file an extension. The return was a mess - there were errors on multiple pages. The return was signed by Greg Haney stating that it was correct and accurate to his knowledge and ready to be filed. We decided to file an extension and pressed the matter of urgency to determine the REAL amount owed, etc as to not rack up more interest than necessary if add'l tax was owed. Days went by and then weeks with little follow up from the firm. I continued to call/follow up with e-mails. I was pushed off with excuses and finally an entire month went by as I continued to babysit the status of progress. We finally have a revised return. I have both version of the signed return downloaded for comparison purposes. There are over $20K of errors and omissions on the first SIGNED return by the firm. After talking to Greg over the phone, he admitted he didn't even see the first return -- so how could he have possibly signed his name. Who else has suffered under the same conditions as us? We were barely met with an apology for our treatment over the last few months as we been slammed with more money owed due to their E&O's, more penalties and more interest. The firm has gone silent as to my request to cover the penalty and interest we have accrued due to the need to file an extension and correct their mistakes that we had no control over. If you like dealing with unorganized folks with little to no customer re pore and babysitting folks then this firm is for you.
