This posting is SPECIFICALLY FOR KEVIN SMITH, Managing Partner and Financial Advisor at Benchmark,…read moreand is an update to my previous posting of June 28, 2024. Last year, one of the privately held Alternate Investment REITS into which Kevin invested $15,000 of my money into in 2015, finally shut down. After 11 years of being tied into an investment, which stockholders were unable to divest themselves of, Northstar Healthcare Income was sold and I received prox $3800 back on my $15,000 original investment. Contrary to Kevin's promise of 6-7% income, and the ability to sell shares back to Northstar, most years saw no dividends at all, and Northstar rescinded the ability for shareholders to sell back their shares. There was no way for shareholders, such as myself, to sell or trade our shares. The other privately held REIT Keven invested my money into, National Healthcare Properties, likewise has not paid dividends in years, and likewise rescinded the ability for shareholders to sell any portion of their shares back to the company. This REIT announced they are finally going public, after 12 years of holding the investors money hostage. Come October 19th, 2026, investors will finally be able to liquidate their holdings on the open market, but at an unbelievable loss. My shares, that Kevin purchased for me at $22,500 (of which 10% was immediately deducted to cover commissions paid to Kevin and associates) are currently valued at $3800. So much for Kevin Smith's promise of "caring about my future, or being guided by integrity". After my mistake of investing through Kevin, I learned most Financial Advisors do not handle the REITS because they realize the damage they can do to the investors, and the power the REITS have to do what they want. Either Kevin had absolutely no concern for my well being, or he sells products he is not adequately familiar with. Either way, I would strongly advise others not to trust him to guide you, or to work in your best interest.
