Classes run Monday to Friday mornings or afternoons (20 hours per week) or Monday to Thursday evenings (16 hours per week). Additionally there are less intense classes on Saturday or Sunday morning. These cater especially to parents, aided by the free child care available on site. At only 50$ per course, this is pretty much the most affordable option to brush up on your French in Montreal. The school is government subsidized. Keep in mind that if you are not a resident or citizen of Canada, you are only eligible to 6 months of classes at this Centre. Classes consist of about 30 students each. I found that the quality varied a lot depending on the teacher. Class material is very much tailored to the need of new immigrants, covering topics like job applications or renting an apartment. Thus you learn useful survival skills like how to write a CV or to understand a typical Quebec lease while practising French.

Students come in from all over the world and it is a very comfortable learning atmosphere. Every level takes 2 months to complete and there are 6 levels in total. If you wish to continue after level 6 there are 3 more levels dedicated to written french. Every class gets a field trip day to explore Montreal, for example a trip to city hall or Apple picking which makes for a fun and sociable experience. I would say the school is very well run. Some teachers are better than others so I suggest getting comfortable with your teacher and if you do not connect with your teacher request a change.

Share the Warmth Foundation - Volunteering is a great activity to do with friends. We took 3 hour to prepare boxes for the food bank and then went out for dinner together

Having moved to The Point in 2008 I've had the opportunity, both as a community member and as a board member, to see firsthand the positive impact that Share the Warmth's programs have on the community. Share the Warmth offers a variety of programs, with a particular emphasis on youth, that include music, tutoring, food security and job training. As a small community organization located in the heart of the community that they serve Share the Warmth is ideally situated to respond to the evolving needs of the community. For example during the covid-19 pandemic Share the Warmth adapted it's food bank ensuring a continuity of service while prioritizing a safe environment for members, employees and volunteers while responding to a 50% increase in families requesting emergency food assistance. Share the Warmth is a top notch organization delivering high quality program to Montreal children and families in need of support in the areas of education, food security and job training. Get involved if you can! They also run a food bank and thrift shop that are always happy to receive donations and to make new friends and allies!

I was fortunate enough to be staying a few blocks away and already had a membership from my local Y…read more(GTA). They honour it here with very little process involved to get in. An extra bonus that they have a "plus" change-room and I had access to that as well since that was part of my membership which they also honoured. There's certainly bigger Y's than this one - including the one in my suburban community. But bearing in mind that they're in the heart of downtown Montreal, it's still a pretty good size with a bunch of amenities. The gym area is on the top (3rd or 4th) floor, so I caught the pool, a couple studios, gymnasium and others on the way up. The gym was fairly well supplied and should have most of what you're looking for. I mostly just use free weights and a running track anyway which they had available. The plus change-room was really nice! Funny enough it was quite a bit bigger than my local one, though the rest of the facility is smaller. The provide towel service, carpeted areas by the lockers, a large and well-functioning steam room and a large whirlpool. Just note that you'll need to have your own lock. My Y has a system where you can leave your card in the locker in order to bring a key with you, but this one you need your own lock. I'm not sure how it works for the other change-room. Glad I made my visit here to get energized and make a small dent in burning the excessive calories I took in on my trip to Montreal. Staff were really nice and helpful too.

I love the Y. This Y in particular is in a perfect location if you work downtown. They have…read morediscounts to give to you if you work for certain places, which is great. Recently they changed their pay structure to be biweekly. If you're regular price individual, it comes out to a little over $30 for two weeks, around $60 a month. The facilities are decently taken care of. Nothing is too messy and they frequently have cleaners going in and out of the change rooms. The studios are pretty clean and spacious (though some classes are PACKED, even if it's inside the gym.) the change rooms are okay, I've never had issues getting a locker before. There are a variety of classes you can take and all of them are fun! I've tried quite a few of them and I don't remember any being bad at all. The teachers are great and are bilingual. Because classes are often busy, they can't really focus too much attention to you during classes. However, they are always open to speaking with you after classes. With the Y membership, you also get 10 friend passes to use and 2 fitness instructor training sessions. You have to renew your membership yearly (no, it doesn't just roll over). Staff are extremely kind and helpful in the front desk as well.
