On the first floor is a recently refurbished 200 seat restaurant with views over the Applegarth Park and an excellent menu specialising in home cooking. The building itself is double fronted and both windows are usually well laid out, each in a colour co-ordinated style - stock permitting. The idea behind the shop is that it sells good quality hardly worn clothes on behalf of the clients. You need an appointment to take your items in, they are then looked at to decide if they are appropriate to sell and a price is agreed at. If sold the proprieter gets half. If they don't sell within a given time frame, you are then asked if they can go on the half price rail, again, you would get half the selling price. The stock is quite well laid out, there are two decent sized changing rooms and the stock is obviously always changing - you have to buy it whilst its there or live to possibly regret it. I have sometimes found that some of the stock is possibly past its best, though the prices are good and there are obviously bargains to be had. The store sells ladies and mens garments, shoes, bags, hats and accessories.

M and Co is formerly Mackays and is part of the popular chain of clothes stores. I have always found staff to be very friendly and helpful. The store is easily accessed and there is free disc parking behind the high street. Prices are reasonable and quality is good.

New Look is a great shop if you are size 16 or smaller. They keep up to date with the current…read morefashions quite well and have quite good offers for students. The store itself is well presented, and the changing rooms are a good size, with plenty of space for you to move around in. The layout of the store is very good and there is plenty of space to manoeuvre, even if there are many people with pushchairs. They also have a good selection of shoes, although most of them are fashion shoes and wouldn't be suitable for most people's work.

Dorothy Perkins is slightly different to New look in the respect that it has more classic items…read morethat don't exactly follow the current fashions to the letter. Dotty P's is laid out very well with lots of space to move around between the clothing rails. The staff are very friendly and will help you if you need them. The prices are average for clothes and they do have sales quite frequently. The store itself is located quite near to the applegarth car park and has got car parking spaces right outside. Dotty P's caters for sizes up to (I think) size 20 which is a lot better than New look!

They are reasonably priced and they usually have a good choice of suits and clothing for work which are perfectly reasonable for the office if you don't want to pay a fortune. They wash well and for the price you can't go wrong. They often have sales events on of at least 20% off which makes the items even more of a bargain. They also do a good selection of accessories in lots of colours, hats , scarves gloves etc and also quite a good variety of jewellry to accentuate your purchases.
