The Edinburgh Corn Exchange is a fantastic venue for all sorts of events. I went to see Goldfrapp play here not too long ago and it was fantastic. They layout of the main venue was just perfect for a big gig like that as it gave a good balance between being a huge spectacle but also feeling surprisingly intimate for such a large space. I have also been to a couple of fashion shows here and they were also great due to the interesting things they can do with the catwalk in a space like the Corn Exchange. A friend of mine went to view the Corn Exchange as a wedding venue and she came back with hundreds of information about the options available. This venue is hugely versatile when it comes to weddings and they can accommodate all sizes and themes from the ultra modern to a more traditional feel. The beautiful things they can do with the lighting are just incredible and the photos in the brochure my friend showed me of previous weddings are stunning. It isn't a cheap venue to hire but if you've got the money I would definitely add it to your list of possibilities.

Edinburgh Corn Exchange is a huge, versatile venue. Back in 2007 we had our Freshers Ball here. It was great fun, if a little too big for the numbers attending. But that wasn't the venues fault. The main hall reminds me of an old school ballroom. It feels quite big and grand, and would be perfect for a number of events. I have attended a few gigs here and its amazing how many people you can fit in here without it feeling to crowded. It works great for a gig venue as there is plenty of exits to get to the bar so you don't spend most of the gig trying to get through the crowd. There is a massive Asda next door so you can pick up some munch before/after your event and there are plenty of buses into town from here. Definitely one of Edinburgh's best venues.

You actually feel like you could be up north somewhere, out in the country, as opposed to half an hour from Edinburgh. The Vu's main purpose is as a bar, restaurant and wedding venue, plus an events space for other functions. My friend's wedding ceremony was held in the Water Lily section of the venue, which is basically a small indoor space for the wedding vows, with a really striking location, jutting out over Ballencrieff Reservoir, on the waterfront. As a place for a wedding ceremony, I thought the views over the water, and the light and beams of sunshine spilling through the tall windows, made it particularly beautiful. The decor is classic, elegant, and mainly white, as weddings usually are, with a touch of purple, which comes through in the lighting scheme too. The Oasis Suite, where the reception was held, is a nice size, being not too overbearingly huge. The meal was really tasty, and there was a good bit of dance space for some ceilidh moves, and the band that played afterwards. This was truly a lovely, contemporary and intimate place to celebrate my friend's wedding.

The place is stunning, different and you can do everything in the one place out the way from roads, traffic and buildings. The food here is great and for the wedding meal you get great portions, the wedding packages are great too. Whatever your budget I'm sure you could find a package to suit you as I'm sure they do a Monday wedding for something ridiculous like £1000. This may have changed, just check. I have given it 3 stars for all the reasons above but I could not give it 5 stars as they ruined some of my wedding. They forgot a lot of stuff I asked for, forgot to put out things I had bought for the day for decoration and some of which had a special meaning. They broke my cake initials and the cake stand wasn't put up so my cake was flat and the tiers sat directly on one another. To be honest I have an arm length of issues from my special day which some what ruined it after the occasion as on the day I focused on my wedding day and didn't let it bother me. I complained but got nowhere, I got told they would have a meeting to cover my issues and get back to me but heard nothing at all. I asked for it to be escalated to the manager and owner a couple of times but again did not hear back. I have had a couple of friends who got married here after I recommended the venue to them, this was before my wedding date. They had a few issues too which I hoped the Vu had sorted out by the time their wedding happened. I told them what happened to me so that it wouldn't happen to them but seems some things still went wrong :(. It is a lovely venue and I'm sure a lot of weddings go well and they do their job but they didn't for me and I wouldn't recommend them because of this. For a business that conducts around 2 weddings a day every day they need to learn a lot about the most special day in someone's life. I hope this helps you decide of it's the place for you or even stop any of the issues I had happen to you on your day.

The building is more commonly or affectionately known as the PI. It is in the heart of the community and has been since 1906. I've been to so many various events, conferences, meetings and even a theatre production. I first started coming here to do teaching and train young unemployed volunteers about television operation. We had fun using the building as a film location for the many script ideas the young people came up with. On that note you may notice on the odd occassion a line of Arnold Clark vans lined up outside, then you know there's a film being shot inside. The PI has been used for many big budget films, proving it's such a great building. It has many rooms for office space and larger rooms/theatres split on three levels. The PI recently underwent some renovation work, especially for the return of the ship, which sits neatly at the top of the building outside. The MacLeod Hall is the largest hall, where I have arranged and attended many events and ceilidhs. It really is beautiful and a great space. I remember when setting up for an event elsewhere in the building the hall was being prepped for a wedding reception. I did say it was multi-functional. It has a lovely cafe called the Cafe Pearce, this tends to be seasonal so can close during summer and winter holidays. The staff are always pleasant and accomodating, as I have also arranged many events in there as well as it is also a suitable large room. I have also used the Lithgow Theatre for rehearsal space for singing and dancing. Back in December I went along to see a pantomine, The Govan Cat, which was brilliant. Although not a conventional theatre it worked really well with the balcony from the MacLeod Hall allowing for a dressing room for the cast. Many charities and businesses base themself from this building. There's also numerous organisations which use it from the Govan and Craigton Intergration Network to dance and karate classes for young children. It's a vibrant and active centre and it's wonderful to see how a tremendous amount of ventures and activity still occurs on a daily basis. The PI is always listed on the Doors Open Day, so if you want more of a look around I would definitely go along. Or why not just stop by for lunch for a wee cup of tea and bowl of soup.

I've had the fortunate experience to perform here with a dance group (Code Butterfly) a few years ago and we danced all around the space and the audience followed us. There is an amazing network of old tunnels that surround the main hall and maze of staircases that the normal Joe Blogs wouldn't be able to explore unless they came to the show! Blessed! That aside, the cafe is cheap and they serve a lovely brunch at the weekends. There is plenty of local information for groups and community happenings. The perfect place to go to find activities to do or groups to join if you are new to the city. It's a beautiful, quirky venue in an original Drill Hall. Staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a homely, nourishing, homemade, community feel about the place. Child friendly venue, although at the same time it's not over-run with noisy screaming kids. Out Of The Blue's sister venue is Bongo Club, which explains some of OOTBs ethos. The only downside I'd say about OOTB is it's a bit chilly, they do try to heat the space with heat lamps etc, but it must be hard to heat such a vast space. Just wrap up warm and grab a hot chocolate and you'll soon heat up! :)

There's a big central area that usually houses some sort of art exhibition, there's a little dance studio, and there are lots of small offices around the sides let to local businesses. And there's a small cafe that does reasonable coffee and is quite popular at lunchtimes. It's an interesting space and worth remembering about if you're down this way. The cafe service could perhaps be faster when they're busy, but they do a good veggieburger and there are some nice comfy sofas to sit on. A few years ago they first used it as a Fringe venue and it's a great space for that. They often have concerts and other small events on at other times. But it's always worth popping into if you're in the area to see what's happening as there's always something going on, and if you're lucky (and it's quiet) it's a great refuge from the bustle of the city in which to unwind for a while.

My only negatives are that I felt it lacked a wee bit of atmosphere and the food quality did not match the levels that you would expect from such a high level venue. It it hard to judge on the latter completely as it depends if that was what was actually chosen at pre event tastings or if the standard dropped on the night. Let's start with the things they're doing right. First of all, I love the interior. They've chosen the most beautiful, light airy unit and have been respectful to the original features (especially the gorgeous, large windows). The branding is cohesive and extremely endearing, with little bees on most things from the menus to the counter. They are also part of a charity which helps the preservation of bees in the UK, which I loved! I'm also pleased to see them using Artisan Roast beans for their coffees and lots of locally sourced produce for their food. So what's the problem I hear you cry? Well it was one simple (yet usually delicious) word: PANCAKES! I ordered them and they were completely raw in the middle. Again, I'm hearing you say "3 stars for raw pancakes is a little harsh, isn't It?!" So I spoke to the server about my raw pancakes, to which they said sorry and took them away to make me a new batch. Now, the pancakes that were returned to me were burnt with a slightly, less raw middle. They were genuinely worse than the first ones. Not one server came to ask me about the second lot , and the owners and managers never came over (even though I saw that they were informed in the first instance). When my plate was taken, the waiter asked if they were any better because I had left all but one bite of the burnt pancakes. I explained they were even worse and this guy is the reason that honeycomb aren't getting 2 stars! He apologised and agreed with how bad they looked. He also took the pancakes off the bill which I really appreciated. So all in all, go here for coffees and to sample their cakes but "bee" careful not to order the pancakes!
