This is a small supermarket which was formerly part of the "Kaiser" chain. It has a reasonable…read morefruit & veg section, chilled groceries, alcohol beverages, a small fresh bakery, meat and cheese counter, and the rest comprises standard grocery lines. Its location means it's always busy and crowded: there are half a dozen checkouts, but all of them are staffed (ie no self checkout) and not always open. Confusingly, they're also in two separate areas (though there are signs on the floor). It's quite pricey, as you'd expect in a location otherwise known for tourists and upscale shopping. But it's useful if you are in the area and want some basics. It would be a bit limited and ruinously expensive to do one's regular weekly shopping here, though!

While looking to pick up a few essentials while in Berlin, I decided to come to REWE City mainly…read moredown to it being the closest supermarket to my hotel, which opens late, hence somewhere I could pick up some things to take back to my hotel such as milk and some snacks, with my hotel having a highly expensive and censored mini-bar, you take an item out you pay for it etc. This store is accessed through an escalator or lift, past a fast food chain, inside it is a decent size, it is slightly larger than most corner shops yet it isn't a huge supermarket. The selection was decent, albeit the selection of milk was really poor, they probably had more lactose-free milk and soy milk than regular and the location of them together, I found to be highly confusing, as I don't speak German either, I didn't know what I was buying. There was no staff about and those I did speak to at the till seemed to speak little English, they didn't seem helpful, they seemed a little rude, walking off to do something without saying what, in one case it was getting a bag which was charged at 10 cents, which frustrated me as I had to pay that for a paper bag. The location of this place is okay, the overall selection and size is okay, and the opening hours are good, the selection of some items even main items such as milk are poor and so is service which is a real shame, sadly because of these I feel this store deserves nothing over a two star rating.

This grocery store was suggested by the concierge of our hotel. It was nearby and had a good…read morevariety of products for us to stock up for our five-day stay in Berlin. He suggested this store over others because we wanted to buy a bottle of wine for ourselves, and the concierge said that they had a good selection. He was correct! They had a good variety of price points, and we found wine that ended up suiting our tastes. We were able to purchase bottled water (a variety of sizes to choose from and at good prices), bakery items, and fresh fruit. Most Berliners know to bring their own bag (unlike us), but we bought an inexpensive one which makes for a nice souvenir!

Usually when I go to other supermarket, I will pick up quite a lot meat automatically. Because of lack of choices in the supermarket, the same kind of vegetables every week making me a bit tired. This ALDI isn't super big like Kuafland, but It is quite cool supermarket in this neighbourhood. I will actually give more thought on what going to get here. I like that they offer many bio products and veggie food choices. For example, I could find tofu here. And they got like veggie hamburger and Soja schnitzel and so on. I like tofu and will also give the other a try. Everytime when I visit this place for weekly grocery shopping, I'll just pick more vegetables than meats in my cart. Which is cool, not only making myself healthier and also stopping the global warming a bit. Also more different fruit choices. The general cost from me is about the same with other supermarket I go. I really don't mind to walk a bit more just for this.
