We ate at La Balade at least 3 times a week, sometimes more, and always at lunch. We ate both inside and outside by the river. So, we tried virtually everything on both menus, and we were delighted with every meal--especially the Iberian pork. Wow! We also loved the grilled mackerel with sorbet on top; who knew that could be done so deliciously! We never had any doubts about the kitchen, so we would try anything and everything they served, and we were never disappointed. As for the service, it was always very friendly and professional, but not stuffy. The servers belied the myth that French waitstaff aren't friendly and chatty. We felt like locals, even though our French is limited.

We arrived a bit early for our reservation but we were seated promptly. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us the option to try to speak French if we wanted but answered all our questions in English. They gave us a bit of hummus to start and we both got starters. My husband had the burrata with citrus and I had the sardines. Both were just outstanding, flavorful and fresh. For lunch we both had the pork dish, rich and delicious. The cabbage that came with it was by far the most delicious cabbage I've ever tasted. Not sure what they did with it but I'm sure it involved butter. Dessert was homemade chocolate mousse served out of a huge bowl. A perfect end to our meal. All the staff were so delightful and attentive. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
