If your son or daughter is going to the english side of the school and is coming in at 8th grade from another country pass on this school but in general I would wait till later grades. First off there is only 1 teacher who teaches two class for instance the math teacher steve teaches science and math. He is a horrible teacher for math so then your stuck with him for much of your existence at the school. The teachers here also unlike in the us do not communicate well with the parents. In the us you can reach the teachers via email if you have any questions anytime here they frown upon it. It is even super hard to get a call back from a teacher. If your an international student I would recommend an international school where they'll help you with French etc. here they are so far ahead there is no help if you are joe bring in 8 th grade. read more

I chose to send my daughter to FACE not only because of its close proximity to our home, but because of its enriched program. I also likes the fact that FACE runs from kindergarden through to grade 11, giving kids a great sense of continuity throughout their school experience. FACE stands for Fine Arts Core Education, and lives up to its name. If I'm not mistaken, FACE had 6 extra hours of curriculum that they dedicate to the arts. By the time a child has gotten to grade 6 at face they already have a solid foundation in both fine arts and music. An other fun fact about FACE is that it has both an English section (run by the EMSB) and a French side (run by the CSDM). Interestingly enough, despite being enrolled in the English section of FACE most of my daughters classes are taught in French (No, FACE is not considered either a bilingual school or an immersion school). Considering it is such a large school the parent-teacher communication seems relatively good with teachers being available by e-mail and contacting me by phone when issues arise. The scheduled "parent-teacher" nights however are maddening exercise in futility and should be avoided at all costs. read more

This was a great school once. Its pretty bad now. At least the English board portion. weeks in, the bus schedule is still not available, the staff is rude and cover there incompetence by blaming the school board. Its dirty, offers very little in the way of after school activities. a school that is getting by thanks to its great past reputation but equally one which i regret getting my daughter into. one great thing about this bad experience with FACE school. Its made me appreciate West Mount Elementary all the more. Going back there tomorrow with the hopes of transferring my daughter back. read more

When I was looking for a school for my kid, I visited this place and I was impressed by the quality of the older kids. They seem mature, self-confident, with great personalities. I would believe for most kids this is a great and supportive place to grow up. What happened to my kid was a different experience. The school makes a selection based on the character of the kid - and not on the communication skills as they will tell you. This school doesn't like kids who don't fit the group. And when I say they don't like them, I mean it. My kid was accepted but later on he was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. After one year, the director started asking us to change the school. Although we met the teachers regularly, they didn't inform us clearly about the issues with my kid. As the second year began, during a parents day, we went talking with his new instructors. Part of them where really nice and polite persons. When I met the music instructor I smiled to her and introduced myself. Instead of saying hello, her answer was straight away: "When are you going to remove your kid from the school?". This is a school instructor speaking this way. Couple of months later, when my kid was already in another school, one day he told me that back at the Face school, there were moments when he was taken from his class and brought to a person who was not the director, nor one of his instructors. He didn't know who the person was but he said it was a lady. He told me the person would start yelling at him, and that would make him start crying. He could not tell me what the person was yelling about, but he only remembered he was so scared he was starting to cry. I never knew about this while he was still at Face, he never told me during that time, probably that shows how painful the experience was.
