I laughed and said…read moreI've lived for quite a while in New York and Miami, so if I can handle the NY Subway and Metrorail, I wouldn't die on the Mexico City subway. If all else fails, I'm taking kickboxing at my gym. Like any subway anywhere in the world, put your wallet in your front pocket, and slide your watch up inside your sleeve. The system is very efficient and much better than expected, especially given the hotel concierge's look of horror and verbal warning. Stations are generally everywhere you might want to go. Almost all stations I used were clean, modern and efficient. Outside of rush hour, it is a very pleasant experience. Every now and then you felt a little too alone in the station, and maybe would appreciate a few more police. By large city standards, the system was remarkably short on police personnel. Mexico City by some counts is the biggest city in the world, so expect a huge flood of people during rush hour. The subway is generally a faster option than any form of surface transportation. Large swaths of Mexico City suffer from chronic gridlock, whether you take Uber, a taxi or a bus. This makes the subway almost always the fastest, cheapest option. As an aside, we rented a Hertz for the day to get to Puebla. I highly recommend AGAINST driving yourself in Mexico City, even if on the way out of town. An unexpectedly hilarious moment was the Hertz lady explaining to us how to weasel out of the inevitable traffic ticket ("now I'm NOT telling you to do this, but..."). Bizarrely, all rental cars are plainly marked as rentals, which is like a flashing beacon to robbers and the traffic "police". Take the subway or a tour bus whenever you can.

Everything is color coded making it easier to navigate. It is so efficient. You never have to wait for a train. They are running constantly. The metro stations are clean and the busiest locations will have clothing and food vendors. There are about 21 million people living in this city. So if you ever use this train, be prepared for overly crowded trains especially during rush hours. You will be pushed. My only complain is the train needs more policing. Pick pocketing is an issue. Just guard your belongings really well. 4 stars.

Noooo gracias! This place gets sooooo cramped at rush hour…read more Pro tip: stay away from the bus here if you can at all avoid it at rush hour. We're talking wall to wall, face to face with total strangers. Not enough room to reach the bars to keep you from falling into the person next to you. These buses run really frequently, like every minute or so during rush hour, but they're still absolutely crammed with people! The best thing about this bus stop is getting out of there. Once you get out, you are greeted with a bunch of street meat food stalls, a few psychic booths, and plenty of places selling fidget spinners. It's less than a block's walk to the Metro station here, Metro Hidalgo. If you can Uber it or take a cab, do that instead... Stay away at rush hour if you can avoid it at all. The fare is taken from a RFID implanted chip on a thick bus card that you have to purchase separately from the subway fares. The card costs less than a dollar, and each ride is only a dime or so. But please, spring for that extra few pesos on the ride. I wish I had.

At this station make sure your senior/handicap enters on the left side, so assure a seat. You can accompany them on that side too. The -2 stars is because there is zero discount for seniors/handicap. Which I think is extremely unfair since metro & metrobus give them free unlimited access. Also the need for a 2nd type of prepaid card is a hassle especially bc I've only used it twice in my life & never carry it. So I have to purchase another if I forget it or don't plan ahead. Let alone if you're a tourist in a group, every person needs one bc its non shareable unlike meteo/metrobus!!!

I was looking for an…read moreATM (near the back of the building, past all the shops) and came across a permanent looking ring, where a 6 year old boy was wailing on a 8 year old girl. The kids were covered in padding, so it's not like they were in any real danger. The shops are nice- good for travelers, and people who are commuting on the trains. Sleek marble surfaces and chrome are the decor here, so it looks nice. It feels safe here. There's plenty of things going on around here- a bus station and a big library are next door. The station has a bunch of subway lines that come/go from here. They have a little model train that is supposed to go around on a track past miniature rural scenes. However that wasn't working, and a full scale model train that wasn't working either. Out in front of the station, tacos and other street foods are sold for ridiculously cheap prices. On the side of the station is the Plaza of the Americas- a nice open place to hang.

The station has some nice artwork, with an airbrushed painting of Frida, Diego, and Hidalgo on one end, and the look of a London pub on the other end. The public art is nice! Around the center of the circle, there's lots of rock carvings of Spaniards on a horse with a sword, and Mayan alphabets. It's a really interesting and nice station! The directions are clearly marked, but they could use more maps. There's also a bus station here, and lots of exits in various directions. Much of the plaza was under construction when I went.

Metro Sevilla was our closest stop by our airbnb, which was a great station. Metro Sevilla station is located in Roma Norte, which is a central location for the area, as it's next to many restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. This station was very clean and easy to navigate around, with plenty of signage. There was a ticket counter where you can buy a one-way ticket, which they give you a card that you insert into the slot to enter the station. Or, if you're a frequent metro rider, there is a card that you can tap, similar to what other metro stations do. This metro station is connected to the Centro Historico area, which is where we took the metro to and from. It also didn't take long for the metro to arrive, as we only waited 10 minutes at most. However, it should be noted that the metro gets super busy. We took the metro on a late Friday night and it was packeddd. I mean, packed as in body to body touching. But overall, taking the metro in Mexico City was an easy peasy, cheap experience that more people should take advantage of.

It's not an incredibly busy station. The station lets you out right at the edge of the park, and it's a quick hike over to the actual park. From this station there are multiple bus lines that run all over town from this station. However, it seems that the Metro people and the Bus people don't talk, and there's no signage to let you know where the nearest bus stops are. Additionally, they don't actually stop in front of / near the metro station, like you think would be convenient. For my bus, I had to cross over the highway on an elevated footpath to get to the right place. Groooan. The station is relatively clean, and has some interesting murals.

Terminal de Autobuses…read morede Pasajeros de Oriente, or TAPO for short is a big circle, with a big dome in the center, and a giant courtyard to hang out in, and wait for your bus. It's close to the airport, and is a convenient place to catch a bus. Around the exterior of the center of the circle are all the bus ticket counters, where you buy your tickets. Be sure to check their screens for departure times, or they're published online. There are plenty of porters to help you if you need assistance with your bag, and there's an easy taxi platform that makes getting in/out of here a breeze. You have to go down a big ramp, then back up a big ramp to go under the area where the buses park and depart. In the tarmac/bus driving area, there was a huge hole in the ground, where it appeared someone had once tried to dig, but abandoned the project. However, the buses just steered around this obstacle.
