I gave it time. I gave it several years. What started out great has devolved into a really poor experience. They messed up my payroll really severely and then refused to fix it. They blamed some company they were working with internally. To resolve this, I would talk with Eco-Tax, who would promise to call me back in a few days... literally months of silence. At tax time, they were like... you didn't fix the mistakes we made??? So I had another CPA finally redo this year and the last two years. It was enlightening for me. It would be unfair to rate this company absent of context; so, I'll briefly share my situation and you can decide whether this service is right for you. If you're in a hurry and don't care to read, here's my final assessment: 1 -- If you're an established business (for example: you already own a business or have been in business for some time) then ***AVOID*** this service. I highly doubt you need them. You'll be better off using your local tax-service provider or accountant. 2 -- If, however, you're just starting a business (for example: you literally just started one last week) then ***use this company at your own risk***. 3 - If you're just looking to do your Personal Taxes, I see no value in using them. You're better off using Jackson Hewitt, H&R Block, Turbo Tax, etc. I was referred to this company by an online incorporation service after incorporating a new business. At the time they (Eco-Tax) were offering a free consultation; and I decided to take them up on it as I was literally looking for a new accounting service that would allow me to manage things digitally. Now, I've run a business for many years and have started Sole-Proprietorships, S-Corps, and even a C-Corp. So, I'm a bit familiar with the nuances and complexities of filing taxes via 3rd parties for such entities. So, when I first got on a call with them, I honestly liked what I heard. In short, in addition to prepping and filing your taxes, they offer help with pursuing the best tax-saving strategies; are available for advise/consulting; and even provide other value-added services like bookkeeping. So, what happened? They dropped the ball (ie: they screwed up). In fact, they screwed up on several levels. And I take that seriously. To start, my taxes were not prepared by a Senior accountant as I understood would be the case when I first spoke with their sales agent prior to subscribing to their service. When I read or hear "Senior" - that means experience. Turns out my taxes were prepped by someone else; which would have been ok - except that the final paperwork showed a substantial liability. RED FLAG. As I've never had a substantial liability before, I was a bit confused. So, I contacted them and set up a call with my designated tax agent. On the day of our call - he didn't make it. RED FLAG. Now, he did eventually call me back - late (and another RED FLAG) - and we did speak. But he seemed completely unfamiliar with my business. Which brings me to the next level screw up: Poor communication. Their own documentation reads that they'd contact you to address your questions and/or concerns once they prepared your taxes. This never happened. RED FLAG... again. Incidentally, this - in and of itself - would have prevented many issues because at its core, having good communication would have cleared up lots of things. But the proverbial "last straw that broke the camel's back" was when I asked about my Personal Tax returns. When I signed up for their service it was to do both my Personal AND Business taxes. In fact, part of the reason I signed up in the first place was that I wanted to file my taxes early. Business taxes must be filed in Mid March; and Personal ones in Mid April; but I wanted to file them both as early as possible. After I contacted them about the liability issue with the business taxes, I asked about the progress of my personal ones. To my dismay, they weren't done. They weren't even aware that I had uploaded all the pertinent paperwork. In the end, I wound up paying over $800 for a less-than-mediocre service. Of course, I brought all this to the attention of their Customer Service and Billing department and asked for a partial refund as appropriate. Again, I paid them to do both my Business AND Personal Taxes. I was told by the customer service rep that since they did the paperwork for my business taxes - I didn't qualify for a refund. I at least expected a 50% Refund because they only provided half the services - even though the half they did provide was less than mediocre. To date, no refunds have been issued. So, no... NOT RECOMMENDED IN ANY WAY. And for those that are curious as to why I gave 1 Star and not less... it's because I can't give less. Besides, their Customer Service department personnel are actually nice people. Unfortunately, their customer service department are not the ones providing the tax services. read more

Great at selling but terrible at delivering - As a small business owner I put a lot of effort into the one-on-one relationships I build. So after Eco Tax dazzled me with their professional presales services, I signed up and paid their upfront fees immediately. But 3 weeks later I was still unable to get on a call with any of their accountants who were apparently "too busy with other customers!". When I finally got an appointment they never showed up to the call! That was enough of an alarm for me to know that I wasn't going to get anything close to good service at Eco Tax. Don't sign up from internet if you open your LLC online - Eco tax was recommended by website developer, online registration etc. They all in one financial scam. I trusted to them due to had no clue about Corp taxes in NY - my fault. Learn about taxes yourself, visit the actual tax office location - talk to CPA but not to sales person. Make couple of visits to different companies to compare the awareness of the CPA in literacy of the tax legislation and check the lisence. Beyond expectations, before Covid and especially now. Very hands-on personalized service saving me significant time, money and stress.

This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. First of all, I scheduled a one-hour tax consultation with them and they never showed up. I waited and waited and waited and they never showed. They never called me later and never even sent an email stating why they failed. I called them every day and was on-hold forever with nobody coming to a phone. I then decided to leave a voicemail with their answering machine and I still never received a call. Finally, I sent a strongly-worded email to them and somebody named Steve called me back. He told me that the reason they failed to show for my consultation is because they were busy with other customers. That was very offensive to me because I had a reserved slot already. I don't care if they were busy with other customers, they should have honored my reserved time because that was my time. There is no reason why any one customer should be any more or less important than another. And if the previous customer still would not let them go then I would at least have expected a follow-up call or email from them apologizing. He scheduled a new time with me one week later and guess what? He never showed. It has been a couple of days now since the second failure and I have not received any calls or emails apologizing for the second offense. I am a business owner myself and I must say that I would never treat a customer like this for any reason. There is nothing - no event or belief that would cause me to treat my own customers like this. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable. I am reporting this company and strongly urge everybody reading this to listen when I say this company is the most unprofessional group of people on the market today. read more

I have been a customer for over two years now and had mediocre experiences with their accountants and secretaries but put up with the low quality service because I thought I was saving money using their services. When I figured out I wasn't saving much and decided to cancel my membership recently they made it a challenge to do so. I had to call over 3 times in order for these geniuses to tell me that I had to give a written notice for the cancellation. The last two times they would just tell me to expect a call back. No response. 10 mins later I moved on. 47 mins after scheduled meeting time, they called and left a vmail as if nothing happened. I call them back and got a voicemail again. 2 days later I get an aplogy email that put the blame on me as I should have call them again since they forgot the appointment due to back-to-back calls on their part! We went with ECO-Tax to help start our small business and were glad to have their experience, and openness. To make a rather long story short, they were decent and filed our taxes for the first year without much of a problem, but the second year it all went crazy. After poor communication, tardy responses, an extension with the IRS and a bunch of BS we ended up dropping them and went with someone local who actually filed my forms CORRECTLY and for the cherry on top actually found out that the way ECO TAX filed my taxes I was paying taxes on my business and personal, so he was able to get me a refund! They seem like they are decent people, but they could care less about the small guy. If they can mess up a small guys taxes so much I fear what some larger business might have to deal with. read more

I was referred to this service through a company that started my LLC. I dealt with one advisor in particular who seemed very knowledgable and provided a lot of insight into the complicated world of taxes and new businesses. He mentioned that if I used ECO-Tax I could pay 299.00 and get my business and personal taxes filed. That was untrue. So then, I was told that the 299.00 only covers personal returns (I've never paid that much for taxes in my adult life). I was then contacted by a rep at ECO-Tax who when I asked for my return amount stated a couple thousand for Federal and 1,000+ for state. When I go online to review and sign the documents...my return was SIGNIFICANTLY less than what I was told. Rather than getting a call to explain the difference I had to call just to hear that, "I didn't do the return correctly at first, but now it's correct." I paid 300.00 for something I could have done online for free. If you know how to do a personal return don't waste your money. If you have business filings or taxes that need to be filed then you are in the right spot. read more

They are responsive to my questions, which I have a lot of, since I am new to running a business. I have found the best way to get help is through email. If I need to speak with someone on the phone, I email that person, and I either get a phone call shortly, or an email to schedule a phone call. Everyone I have worked with has been helpful and patient with my complete non-understanding of accounting and business taxes. I am very good at what I do, but that is not accounting. I got 1-hour of consultation from them by paying a premium through my incorporation service. The called 5 minutes late and then their line dropped. After waiting 5 minutes with no call, I called their HQ and they said the agent was having phone problem and needed to restart his phone. Eventually they called back but only spent 5 minutes explaining things (and not very well--it was hard to understand through the mumbling), then wanted to spend the rest of the hour on their sales pitch. The explanation of what to plan for in setting up a company was all in the context of why I should pay them to save me money, with examples of how much money they could save me. They did not listen to my business model at all but instead read from a script that didn't apply to my company. What a scam. read more

Nope nope nope. Perhaps the biggest waste of money I've spent when it comes to my finances and owning a business. Oh they'll collect their monthly fee, they don't drop the ball on THAT, that's for sure. But they don't care to follow up, contact you, or appropriately communicate. Your account will bounce around between workers, the details of your business and personal situation will be lost and you will find yourself always wondering if they're actually keeping up. And the answer is no. They are not. I'm sorry to write a bad review, it honestly takes ALOT to provoke me to spend my time to write out a bad review. You have to REALLY go the extra mile to disappoint, and these guys went the extra mile. I'm almost two years in with them, TWO years. And I did just as much work and put in just as much time filing my taxes by myself via turbo tax before as I did making SURE these people were doing their job and fulfilling their end of the bargain. I just hired a personal accountant for literally the same price, and WOW the difference is astonishing! I can actually focus on running my business and providing for my clients. Don't use Eco-tax. For real. If your business or finances are not super complicated, you'll do just as much work filing yourself through something like TurboTax. And if your business and finances are super complicated, you will get better care with an accountant. Hired this firm to do our company taxes. Once tax season arrived, any time I had a question, I had to schedule an appointment and wait 1-2 weeks to have some incompetent person tell me they'd get back with me after they consulted with someone else to get an answer. They made several mistakes in my taxes and every time they said they were done, I literally found errors and actually had to instruct their tax preparer on how to do my taxes right. In the end, I became very tired of their incompetency and lack of professionalism. I canceled my membership, told them to delete all my files from their system and forget about my tax return because I really got tired of having to fix it myself. They kept making excuses their new hires were not reliable and they were over loaded. I simply told them they shouldn't be taking in new clients if they can't provide the service they promise. Pretty rude. They offer a 30 min tax advisory service for anyone creating an LLC through Inc-File. They upfront admit that they are prospecting for new business, which is fair, and I figured I would learn something, as it never hurts to ask questions. The guy on the call was quite rude, actually, for someone who wanted my business, saying things like "I can't believe you didn't know that", and "Oh, you haven't even done that yet". The point of this call (from my perspective) was for me to see what I could learn from this guy, and I think his strategy was to try to convince me that I needed him and his expertise. Guess what, not so much! Given his rudeness and abrasive communication style, there is no way I would provide him with any personal information about my finances, nor would I choose to work with him. I do like that I got that service as part of the other transaction, but I would never pay for it and would never choose to do further business based on that interaction. Guys, if you read this, part of my consulting job is to train customer service, communications and support functions to drive more business, to not lose it! You could use this! read more

I would NOT recommend this company. Their communication is horrible and they obviously have no intention of filing your taxes on time...Then when I complained that I would have at least made sure my returns were in on time had I done the taxes myself, I was sarcastically told, "Well good for you--we have thousands of other customers to worry about, not just you...We would have filed an extension and gotten to them within the next six months." Then I was told that we were paying for the accountant's expertise--not to have our taxes done by the April 15th deadline...And, the accountant's so-called expertise amounted to me researching information on deductions for him and then him still doing the taxes wrong twice...We would have lost thousands of dollars in deductions because he had no clue that he was supposed to carry them over to our state returns as well. If the computer program didn't alert him to do something, then it wasn't done--that was the "expertise" that we paid top dollar for. I received a 1 hour free consultation after opening my LLC with IncFile. Eco-Tax contacted me to schedule the appointment and asked some initial questions. Assuming they realized my business will be small for a while, they never followed up after scheduling the 1 hour. I called and emailed but no reply after I answered their qualifying questions, never received the consultation. If you want your free consultation, you should probably lie on the qualifying questions to appear as a big business that will pay them lots of money after the free hour!!!
