Yoga mats are provided but you should bring your own yoga and bath towels. The staff and teachers were quite helpful and approachable. I highly recommend Yanti, Rina, Trisha and Shailoe. I love attending the FNR Athletics and FNR Hour for the more active classes while I prefer Stress-Free Gentle Flow and Restorative for relaxation. Urban Ashram is less expensive than most yoga studios in the metro. If you're a first timer like me, you should try Urban Ashram.

A friend invited me here to give yoga a try as she had fallen head over heels (pun intended) for it and testified that it had helped her tremendously both on a physical and mental level. I acquiesced, and off we went on my complimentary trial. Aesthetics-wise, it doesn't get any prettier than Urban Ashram. I mean, it's plain to see that millions of pesos have been invested into the place and to me, that just speaks to how serious the owners are about their business and their mission. Urban Ashram is equipped with lockers so you don't have to worry about your belongings while you shower or practice, the showers and toilets are clean and equipped with hand soap and body wash and shampoo as well (very nice touch). The bathroom is air-conditioned so it's cool. There's even a little couch in the middle of it. Finally, the studio is spacious and suitable for practicing. However, while Urban Ashram doesn't fall short in the least in the aforementioned aspects, I found that their instructors just aren't as skilled as others that I've practiced under in other studios. Classes were sometimes too large that the instructor wasn't able to guide or correct my poses, making it pointless to practice. Additionally, it just didn't feel serious or challenging enough. I don't know. I suppose it all comes down to personal preference but the practice style here just didn't float my boat.

It was enough to convince me to keep going to my classes (mostly just FNR or Flexibilty Not Required). Though I don't go as often as I used to, it's the only studio in BGC that I would come back to. I've not stepped foot in a yoga studio before trying Urban Ashram but it was exactly what I expected it to be. Clean and vibrant with their trademark colours of violet and green. Their staff are very friendly, too! I just finished an FNR class today with them and it was my first time meeting my teacher for that class. Mj was really nice and though some people think of yoga as a serious workout, she made it relatable for everyone. We were all girls in class today and she didn't want to stress us out with the poses and didn't do chaturanga poses. It was mostly due to how insane the heat was today! Walk-in students pay P500 for each class. And they last at least an hour. They have various programs and packages for you to try. You should head out and know for sure what you're in for! Their teachers are highly trained and certified. So you're in good hands when you do your hand stands, crow poses or what have you. You're guaranteed the attention you deserve!

They do their best to create a calm oasis from the bustling life outside the studio focusing on allover wellness. I'm always greeted with a smile every time I walk through the doors and often with my name even after only coming for one class. They are personable and helpful anytime I have a question. The front desk ladies/gents rock! The locker rooms are equipped with lockers that lock (yes, some studios don't!), toilets and showers so you can head straight to your next appointment after class. They also have a small boutique so if you happen to forget your yoga gear you can pick up some pants and a top and you're all set. No excuses! They offer a variety of classes including their proprietary class FNR, flexibility not required. Those classes are unintimidating and perfect for beginners while also offering level 2 classes for the more advanced. Great studio! Walk-ins welcome at Php500.

It takes guts to go pole dancing. It's a great form of exercise and is fun as heck. At the back of…read moreyour mind you might think it's lewd or immoral, but that's just your sheltered Catholic school upbringing rearing its ugly head. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's go back to pole dancing, shall we? One of the proponents of pole dancing locally is Polecats Manila, a ragtag bunch of misfits who are taking the dance scene by storm one pole at a time. It gave people looking to get fit a whole new way of exercising. Some people aren't built for yoga, running, or the gym because they get bored easily with all the repetition. With pole dancing, you get to exercise your core as well as build and tone muscles. Polecats offer numerous classes every day, each with different difficulty levels and accessories. If you still haven't gotten around to your New Year's resolution of getting fit, now's a perfectly good time as any!

Gone are the days when pole dancing is just girls in skimpy clothes (or any clothes at all) shaking their booty for men with a little bit too much time on their hands (or maybe wasn't hugged by their mothers enough growing up). These days, when you say "pole" you think of strong, beautiful women who are defying the laws of gravity, and The Polecats are a prime example of that. Polecats Manila is the exclusive studio of Polecats Manila, the first organized pole dancing group in the Philippines. Forget everything you need to know about your body and its capabilities, because one class with them will make you discover so many new things that you never thought you could do. There are classes for all types of people: women, men, young, old, those wanting something completely athletic and those looking for something a little bit sexier (striptease classes, anyone?) The studio is always vibrant with energy and happiness. But taking a class with the Polecats are not for quitters - their teachers are educated, motivated, and will push your limits. That is, after all, what pole dance is all about.

I don't find Plana Forma to be particularly original. The exercise is a just a new way of putting together floor exercises and movements you've done in school or in aerobics classes or gyms. What I did not like about it was that the instructors are very focused on timing. They have a set "speech" (if you will) and they don't stop for the whole hour. They keep on going and if you get left behind, sorry na lang. I think I'd want my instructor to be more concerned about whether or not I have the correct form rather than finishing all the required exercises. I want them to make sure that I'm doing things right. What works for one person, won't necessarily work for another. I'd encourage people to try (perhaps you'll like it), but personally, HIIT works better for me. I like exercises to be as simple as possible and I don't believe that you really need expensive workout equipment or to pay so much money to achieve results.

Instead, we should focus on the long term goals of being healthy. If you're still trying to figure out what you want to focus on as your workout, you might want to try Plana Forma. It's a franchise of the New York boutique, Physique 57. In this work out, you will be doing a combination of Yoga, Pilates, Aerobics, Ballet and a whole lot more. Be sure you've stretched before the workout because you will be doing some core work outs as well! Aside from the mat, you will be using dumbbells plus the ballet bars for some specific moves. You'll sure feel wobbly at the end of the workout because the moves even target your inner thighs and other body parts. A lot of stars go to this studio because in the long run, Plana Forma will make you leaner and more muscly in a subtle way.
