So there was a point in time that I was stuck in an area/ had to go to a certain place that was…read morereally close to the Pier 35 Bar and Grill. I'm actually kinda surprised this place doesn't have a single review. They have a lot of reviews on Facebook... and now I'm wondering if I'm leaving a review in the wrong place. I can't find it elsewhere, so obligatory
/*THIS REVIEW IS FOR PIER 35 BAR AND GRILL */
Hope this is in the right spot.
So the first day we had been in the restaurant a few metres over and we realized that people were eating over here as well (we thought it was empty!) So the next day , we went in. They have a lunch menu for $14, available 7 days a week 11:30am- 3:30pm. For $14AUD, that is an amazing price (with some being $16.50) Like, we had to go around and get burgers with meals at around that price, but this place was for Aussie-italian mixed things. Those things don't come too cheap! Anyways, these are the things I tried:
Seafood spaghetti with market fresh seafood, garlic, chilli, white wine and basil ($16.50AUD). It was a white wine reduction that totally accentuated the dish to a better level~ They have a few pieces of mussels, shrimp, and 1 other type that I think is cuttlefish? The sauce here which looks nonexistent is actually really light and actually comes with a little spice (yeah, it says chilli but I totally did not catch that when I was ordering it). Totally get this if you like seafood or white sauce spaghetti! 8.5/10
Chicken and mushroom risotto, baby spinach, sun dried tomatoes finished w/ parmesan and truffle oil ($16.50AUD). Mhm. So I'm not really one for risotto but this risotto impressed my boss, so I had to try it! They have a great water to rice ratio, in which the water is not soupy but more of a concentrated sauce with the rice. You like high end? Parmesan and truffle oil man. Their chicken is lacking a bit of flavor but that's the only complaint I have here :P (7/10)
Penne pasta, sautéed veggies, chilli, garlic tossed in Napoli and white wine sauce finished with parmesan cheese ($14AUD).
One regret is that I didn't try their fries, but it was $9 They also have tapas here, which you can get a selection of 5 items for $39.5AUD. You can get Hikkaido scallops, Moreton Bay Bugs (baby lobster), king prawns, calamari, and a couple of other things. They are so delish. I am not kidding. On the third day, I saw a group get 10 of these. Like if I had the luxury to do it, I would have tried these. This would have been of them "authentic Australian things" that people get to try. I did have a few pieces from my boss cuz my boss did so on the last day. He loved it. It doesn't look filling at all though, but he said he was content. I dunno.
They also have an open mic night where people sing on Sunday. Nice live entertainment.
Service ranges. On the second time, the waitress was really good in knowing we was American and taught us that it was "a jug of water" after we requested a pitcher of water because we needed a lot of water. Aussies do "jug", we do "pitcher". Anywho sometimes you will have to wait a bit too because this place is really popular. They also have a "outdoor" view section in which you can see Pier 35 and the Bay.
I don't know how so many people find this place tho lol. Cuz the road leading to it doesn't look like many cars travel on it (Lorimer St)... but somehow they have a good amount of people here! Also OPEN WEEKENDS! Our savior haha. Because a lot of places close in Australia on weekends, we found out ):
