Definitely not what I was expecting from a north shore private hospital and the amount I paid for…read moresurgery! The facility itself is a nice little building nestled in a residential area and at first glance was a nice looking building. I got there early in the morning and had no problem getting parking on site. To summarise some of the good and bad points once in the door... - was told to be there at 6.30am sharp for admission - no one came out to the reception area until 7am!...would have appreciated an extra half hour sleep had I known. - room was not huge but quite adequate size and set up with a mini fridge and tv and aircon (although there was no remote control - so had to call the nurse if you wanted it on or off who would then go and borrow one from another patient's room!) - cupboard had a few cockroaches crawling around in it which would make occasional appearances to the outside surfaces...a bit off-putting when you were confined to bed - pre-op process was efficient - post-op recovery was a mixed bag. The morning shift nurse's assistant was excellent, very helpful and attentive, as was the night shift NA. Not so the case with the two afternoon shift NAs...who were very disinterested and gave several instructions contrary to the doctor's instructions, seemingly to avoid additional work on their part, but which led to post surgery complications. - the RN's were also not good imo. They were not impolite but seemed to want to do as little as possible to do with patients...maybe they have other administrative tasks to do (I don't know) but certainly patient contact seemed to be a major inconvenience to them. The worst example was the discharge nurse that woke me up in the morning and immediately thrust a pen in my hand and said "sign this"...in a very drowsy state I enquired what it was and she said the discharge papers. I was then informed I should get up, get ready and could leave (despite being 2 hours before the official 'check-out' time.) I was left a copy of the papers and saw that I had just signed that the intravenous cannula had been removed as part of the discharge procedures...which at a quick glance at my hand...clearly it had not been!!....surely the nurse could have seen this too had she taken 3 nanoseconds to look in that direction...? Anyway, I ended up taking it out myself as there was then no one to be seen at the time I actually did want to leave -probably not advised but by that stage was rather disappointed with the focus on getting patients out the door rather than providing appropriate care up until the time of departure. Overall assessment is I would not go back to Dalcross Hospital.
