We went on a college visit for my son and walked away very impressed. The visit schedule ran on time, the presentation was informative and the meal was very good. EKU was my favorite college we've visited so far, with enrollment being between 10-11,000 it's a good blend of a large college with a smaller college feel. Time will tell which college he picks and we still have some visits left but right now I would be comfortable if he decided to become a Colonel. read more

Eastern Kentucky University Campus Living in Eastern Kentucky for 10 years I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time at several college campuses. One was Eastern Kentucky University. When I visit family and friends in Richmond Kentucky I always spend time on campus. I'm familiar with the buildings and I have my favorite places to photograph. The last time I visited I was with my daughter. We were there on a beautiful day. Flowers and trees were in bloom. The campus was clean and the buildings have not been neglected. I love to visit the Statue of Daniel Boone. We rubbed his toe for good luck. Anyone that knows the school knows that's a traditional thing to do. If you like to travel visiting historic old school campuses you will enjoy Eastern Kentucky University. Look up the history before you go. If it wasn't for this University the City of Richmond would be very impoverished. In Kentucky college towns are the best place to live. That's my opinion. I hope you enjoy my photos. read more

I came to EKU via college transfer and was looking for a school that was cheap and had flexible admissions requirements for people who never did well in school but needed that piece of paper. EKU fit both criteria handily. I arrived at the campus not knowing about its massive party reputation, but the town and college made great strides in the 13 years since I first arrived on campus (wow - just realized how long ago that was). Don't let any snobbery of students/parents from other state schools dissuade you from checking out EKU further. Most bars that made mint on underage drinkers have been shut down and though this next one doesn't sound like a positive at first - they've doubled tuition. First off, tuition at EKU is still lower than nearly any other school. Second was that I think students didn't take it quite as seriously when it was cheaper. The school used to cost as much money as my community college back in DC. If you work in sales - think about it. Give away stuff for free and people treat you like dirt. But charge them as a "consultant" and they listen much better... okay so I work as a consultant so that's not entirely true but it seemed like a cool analogy. Anyway, once EKU doubled tuition all of a sudden students started taking school a bit more seriously so I guess there was some correlation. Eastern is also doing the little things to keep students on campus over the weekends. EKU has a large commuter population along with many students whose bodies may be on campus, but their hearts are still at their old high school's football game. So, doing things like allowing tailgating (w/ booze) before football games and such helps keep students investing their time and energies in the University life. That makes me happy for the current students. The campus was a virtual ghost town on weekends when I lived in the dorms and this provides the students today with what I'm guessing is a far more memorable experience. Of course like any college there are the usual complaints. Crazy levels of bureaucracy, business school provided glorified busywork rather than an education that prepared me for the real world, and the campus security guards are too busy frisking pretty girls over traffic violations than stopping real crime on campus (true story). In all though, I have very positive memories of this school and from what I've seen after coming back for homecoming, it's gotten better. It has the amenities you would expect from a big school (16,000ish enrollment) but a smaller feel and you have actual professors teaching most courses instead of TAs. My take on college, is unless you're going to Ivy league or top-20 national program for whatever your major is, success after graduation will have very little to do with what school you went to and rather what you did while you were there. EKU has the networking opportunities and chances to get noticed by recruiters though you may have to take more initiative than at some larger east/west coast schools. Trade-off is if you work a bit waiting tables in one of the local restaurants and pick up any one of the little scholarships available, you can leave school with a degree and almost nothing in student loans. This is our first visit to this university. We are at a fencing tournament in Weaver gymnasium. This is an old building that is not accessible. My son's father would like to see him fence, but a full flight of stairs is too much for him. I know that the building is probably exempt from the ADA, but this was not a good welcome for visitors. A large university like this has no excuse for the lack of accessibility. What a disgrace! read more

I am a fan of EKU. Came here for work in the summer of 2012. Nice campus, clean facilities, and friendly staff make this school worthy of four stars. They might not have the big football program and a huge student body, but it seems like a solid school where you can get a good education. read more

Another Instructor took two weeks to answer email regarding fall class so I missed registration deadline with employer. Spend the money at somewhere a little more professional!!!! read more

If your a military veteran that has been out of school for a few years than don't even bother applying. I never received emails back from the school regarding admissions and never received the correct time and date for the placement exam. After calling the school multiple times because "my test score transfer was delayed" they told me I ran out of time and all the classes were full. To top off all that fun, 90% of the time you call the school it sounds like you talking to a student who has no idea what they are doing. I've called the veterans office and was basically told tough luck better luck next year. Considering I moved over 800 miles to go to this school and paid for the application, I didn't find this response very helpful. read more
