My dog is really comfortable at this vet. During the early COVID days there was one vet tech that was awful and clearly wasn't comfortable. Unfortunately that my dog uncomfortable. We haven't seen her since and my dog has been so so happy here. All of the techs love him and he feels really comfortable when they gently hold him to get shots. They make him feel comfortable when he goes into the back for bloodwork too. Yeah it's expensive and yeah parking sucks, but my dog is happy and well cared for. read more

After many years with Eastside Veterinary Clinic, I have had to make the unfortunate decision to find new veterinary care for my 2 dogs. Over the last several years, EVC has continually increased their pricing and required add-on's for all veterinary appointments. It is seemingly impossible to leave this clinic for even the simplest, most routine visits without a bill for less than $500. The care and services are average at best and exam services rarely go beyond 15 minutes. This stands in stark contrast to the exorbitant bill that is levied against owners as soon as the visit is over. Even though I had come to expect high prices from EVC, the final straw came today when I received a bill for ~$1,800.00 for an annual wellness visit for my 2 dogs. Both dogs are in great health and received basic exams, shots, and flea and tick medicine. The flea and tick medicine was near ~$250.00 per dog for a 6 month supply. This medicine can be found much cheaper online or elsewhere. It is unfortunate that the clinic cannot offer more affordable medicine for pets in their care but I do understand they have less control over these costs than they do over their other services. What I do not understand is how EVC ethically stands by the remaining service costs. Both of my dogs were charged for 2 IDEXX panels, totaling ~$400.00 for each dog. One was a rapid blood panel, and one was an overall wellness blood panel that covers everything included in the rapid panel. The company IDEXX has open antitrust litigation against it for inflating the costs of these panels for pet owners. EVC does not seem to care that these costs are falsely inflated and they stack multiple panels on to an appointment, drastically raising the bill. Finally, EVC charges $75.00 per pet for a glance over "wellness exam". This fee is charged every time you step foot through the door, no matter how recently your pet was seen or the reason for the visit. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in the pricing policies at EVC. $900.00 per dog for an annual wellness visit is far from normal practice and can seriously impact the level of care a pet receives. I am a long time pet insurance holder but because of the services provided and the way EVC labels these services, the optional "annual wellness" treatments will not be covered by my policy. I would recommend pet owners find other reputable options for veterinary care. Update: After reviewing previous annual visit invoices, I've decided to include screenshots of the cost for this same visit type just 4 years ago. In 4 years, the cost of an annual wellness visit has quadrupled. These prices are not disclosed prior to the examination and pet owners are left with a massive bill at the end of these visits. 4 years ago we felt the prices were much higher than other vets in the area, but the convenience of the location to our home made it seem worth it. We should have left for another practice back then, and will not make the mistake of returning to EVC again. read more

I can't even get a prescription filled for flea, tick heartworm without a heartworm test!! He's been on the meds for years so why do we need a test for $100? The meds prevent it!! Honestly, I recommend taking your pets elsewhere. The driveway // parking is awful // very tight and stressful here, so better to park on the streets nearby if you do choose to take your pets here. The last time I was here (a few days ago) the vet techs confidently came into the room with the entirely incorrect vaccine ready to inject into my puppy - the only reason they didn't make this mistake is because I had insisted on being in the room with her when they vaccinated (they do not usually do this - they often will just take the dog back to a random room with no owner present). I was able to catch their glaring mistake and redirect appropriately - but the lack of competence // knowledge about what my pet needed was alarming. Their costs are extremely high (yes, vet costs are high everywhere, but it feels like EVC is even worse than usual) - they even charge a significant fee just for a vet tech appointment. I often find the staff to be judgmental and unprofessional (ie taking it personally that a puppy is frightened to be away from her family). If you have another option, I recommend that. In a pinch, EVC is fine but go somewhere else for more relational, supportive pet care. read more

This is the only vet located on the east side of Providence and is actually located inside a building that looks like a house. It's likely a house that's been converted into a veterinary clinic. It's very homey and clean. My biggest issue even before you get in is the fact that their drive way is one way and you can't turn around. Each spot is so narrow and getting out of there is a nightmare. It's so much easier to just park on one of the side streets especially if you have a bigger car. There are a lot of people working here so you are attended to right away. Everyone I have worked with so far has been so very nice and I have not gotten that unfortunate impression that I know more than the vets! They have very valid opinions that is backed up by research so I definitely trust their recommendations. They give you a lot of options and give you the pros and cons of each so that you can make an informed decision. I took my dog here to get spade and it was a very easy process for booking. They don't have a flat rate as it depends on what they find inside as they go through the surgery. You'll find that this is the case whatever you do here. They offer a lot of vaccinations and you'll have to make the assessment as to which is going to be worth it. If you go with everything they have on the list, then you'll run yourself bankrupt so you just have to be able to make the judgment call yourself. With that said, they know what they are doing and everything they do is exceptionally professional. I recommend this place just know you don't have to say yes to everything they suggest! read more

We've been using East Side Vets since they opened on Gabon St. They've always done great with our pets!

I've taken multiple generations of dogs and East Side for over 10 years. I have always been happy with the work of the vets, techs, and staff. One of the great things about this practice is that although there are 4-5 vets working there at any given time, there isn't too much turnover, which is a problem at many larger practices. We've spent the most time with Dr. Scotto, who is a fantastic vet. She is knowledgeable, thorough, and practical. She is kind, but will be real with you and won't sugar coat things. She is honest and won't talk you into unnecessary procedures. The other vets we've been with there have been similar. The longevity of the vets at East Side has been important to us and our dog Tito, who has a heart murmur. They suggested the evaluation (echocardiogram) and the right medication and have been monitoring it for the past 3 years. They know what Tito's heart sounded like when he first started treatment and can evaluate if he's getting worse each time I bring him in (which he luckily is not!). This kind of evaluation for a long term health problem wouldn't be possible for less skilled and consistent vets. Their costs are average, maybe a little below or above depending, but they have always been upfront with me about costs before going through with any procedure. Their facility is nice, clean, but small, with a notoriously difficult little driveway. Those minor details might have lowered my score to 4 stars, but the fact that they have been SO CONSISTENT FOR 11 YEARS is amazing and bumps the score up to 5. Good luck with your pets. I usually don't write reviews, but I feel I need to do so now. We have been taking our two dogs to East Side Veterinary for the past three years. It's pricey but convenient for us. We have never needed anything other than a check-up and routine shots. However, a few days ago, my husband and I returned from an out-of-town trip to find our German Shepherd with a raging ear infection. It was the whole works, whining, pawing at his ears, foul odor coming out of his ears....so I promptly call OUR vet at East Side Veterinary to schedule an appointment for our animal in discomfort. I call explaining the whole situation to which the pleasant woman answering the call tells me that the earliest available appointment is in October (this was on August 29th) and that there is nothing she can do for me. I can try to call every day at 7:30am to see if they have a cancellation that day, but that is it. What??? We are existing patients, my dog is in discomfort and they can't see him until October? I am sorry, but that is a major fail in customer service and more importantly in the level of care of their patients! Needless to say, we are looking for a new vet, maybe one that actually cares about the animals they serve. read more

My experience here was just OK. I'll probably be finding another vet. The office looks old and dirty in some places. I was 15 minutes early for my appointment and ended waiting what seemed like an unnecessary amount of time both before and after, which was weird because nobody else was there. The vet tech that I spent the majority of my time with didn't know their stuff. They tried to vaccinate my dog for something that was clearly listed as done on his vaccination record. They also recommended a medication that he was already on. I wondered if they knew what they were doing for these routine things, so I'd be skeptical of going there for anything more serious. The vet was just OK. Probably spent five minutes looking at my dog and doing his shots. Not much personality or interest in us. Overall not horrible, not great, but I'll continue to look for something better. read more

Very unfortunate that this place is so gross. The building and rooms are actually filthy/ grimy. The doctors seem to lack confidence which certainly doesn't instill any in me. Got a quote for a teeth cleaning and they said it could be $600-1600 which is a difficult range to financially prepare around. I went ahead scheduling regardless and they didn't tell me not to feed her so I wasted my morning only to be turned away. Will not be returning here with my dog and would not recommend this place to others. worth a drive further away if you even remotely love your pet. read more

This is the only vet I've ever been to, but have continued to take my dogs here for the past 10 years. Dr Brieding is fantastic and friendly, as are all of the assistants I've encountered here. Recently I did have a strange experience with another Dr. who claimed my dog was underweight and caused me some concern, she wouldn't give some of the shots he was due for. Turns out my dog lost a pound bc we stopped giving him too much peanut butter, but rather than asking me if I had changed his diet she jumped right to a costly blood test which turned up no problems. Besides that incident, I have only had pleasant experiences but will make sure to request Dr. Brieding in the future. read more

The review pertains to the clinic business practices and not to the vet (Dr. Springer) who examined my dog. First, on top of the visit fee they charged extra for anal gland expression, which in most places is part of the regular exam. Second, the glands were already empty, as the vet first indicated, since I did express them 2 days prior to the visit (though then the vet indicated that a bit of fluid came out). . Third- After I paid I decided not to take one of the medications they prescribed, and surprise surprise, they don't normally give you refund. They clam they cannot cancel a transaction so they offer you only store credit. Since I am not planning to set foot on that place ever again they finally said they will send me a check which will take 2 WEEKS!!! This is a small operation, I wonder how many signatures they need to reimburse you $35!!! Fourth - I wanted to return a sealed pack of medicated pads (UNOPENED/SEALED) as I realized they charged me twice as much as in other places, and they refused that as well. Bottom line - Being a good vet also requires to have good business practices, which this clinic do not seem to have. The feeling is that they want to charge you even for the air your breathe there. Hopefully they will reimburse me within two weeks as promised, otherwise I'll report them to the BBB and any other pertinent organization. read more

I love my dogs! I have a very hard time trusting people to take care of them the way I want them taken care of (I had a terrible experience at a different vet 5 years ago...my dog of 13 years died as a result of their negligence.) I am now EXTREMELY protective of my pets, and even pickier about what vet I will take them to. I have been going to East Side vet for almost 4 years now. I take my dogs in for the typical things like vaccinations and checkups. They have also been for a complicated broken puppy leg (they were able to put a cast on and he healed without surgery) and for a surgery to repair a joint issue. I most recently took my dog in (who has had chronic UTIs for several years) to have an episioplasty surgery. She has healed perfectly and has had no more infection issues since the surgery. (Apparently our dog was being a baby after her surgery and demanded that the vet assistants take turns holding her most of the day...) I love the vets and everyone at East Side. They give amazing care to my furry babies, and I wouldn't trust them to anyone else! read more

I followed Dr Schneider from her previous hospital to here. She is a wonderful veterinarian and took great care of my pets. I don't know her name but the vet tech we use is also wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, patient and answers all questions. Unfortunately the receptionist-person answering the phone is really unfriendly and unwelcoming, so the first impression is very unfavorable. If the person in that position were better I would give them 5 stars. Truthfully, if I weren't following Dr Schneider and my first impression was from the receptionist I would go to another veterinarian. read more

Dr. Springer is a wonderful vet. I have had my dog Larry for two years, and she has taken very good care of him. Unfortunately Larry has a sensitive stomach, so he has needed to make almost monthly visits in to East Side. But everyone at East Side treats him like family, especially Dr. Springer. She has helped us through treating his stomach issues, and she has gone above and beyond with support and advice. Larry actually looks forward to visiting her, and I trust Dr. Springer to take good care of Larry and any pets I have in the future. I would highly recommend Dr. Springer and East Side Veterinary to other pet owners, and I often try to convince my friends who have pets to switch to this office. read more

We've had nothing but great experiences with the staff and facilities at East Side Veterinary Clinic. Since moving to RI, we have adopted two pets in to our family, while continuing to love our older kitty, Shagrath. We adopted one kitten from Potter's League and one puppy from Forever Home Rescue. The vet and support staff at the clinic are always so friendly and helpful when it comes to caring for all three of our lovely pets. We love everything about the clinic except for the parking area. it really is awful and is an accident waiting to happen. Parking lot aside, I will continue to bring my fur babies to East Side. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and I haven't felt that they've ordered anything that our pets haven't needed. I brought my 16 year old little dog to this clinic because he was so sick and dying. I knew he needed to be out of his suffering. Never once did he cry or wimper even though I could see he was in pain at home. I carried him in he was so thin and tired. When the vet came in she was rather heartless. She said we will give him a shot to tranquilize him then a second one to stop his heart. Then she gave him the first shot. He cried out in such excruitating pain I could not get that image out of my mind. Never in all the vet appoitments had I ever seen him react to a shot like that. That should never happen. No animal being euthanized should have that much pain subjected to them before their death. I had other animals euthanized and never had this expereince. It was horrifying. The worst last moments with my beloved dog are now agonizing to recall. I am so sorry I took him there. read more

I do not have enough good things to say about East Side Veterinary Clinic, and especially about Dr. Springer Slepkow. Three years ago I moved from Somerville, MA to Cranston, RI with my two cats, one of which had recently been pretty needy in terms of medical issues. I cried so hard when I had to leave my vet at Arlington Animal Clinic and was unsure that I would find a vet who was just as caring as all of the vets at that clinic. Luckily I had a co-worker at the time who was living in Providence and she recommended Dr. Springer and East Side Veterinary to me. Unfortunately, only a few months after moving, my cat Zoe became very ill. After a long battle, Zoe ended up passing away from cancer in October of 2015, about a year and a few months after I had moved. Now, this is ultimately a sad story, but I am writing this review to tell everyone that one of the best things that happened to me and to Zoe was getting recommended to Dr. Springer. She supported us through every step of Zoe's diagnosis and battle with cancer. Even before the cancer was diagnosed, Dr. Springer was there to help and guide me through tests and to give advice during the multiple times when Zoe wasn't eating or didn't feel well and we didn't know why. After one weekend when Zoe had to be hospitalized because she hadn't eaten in days and was drooling from nausea, I decided to have exploratory surgery done on her in order to figure out what was really wrong. Dr. Springer went out of her way to talk to me on a Sunday night and give me advice on what to do. She also arranged an emergency surgery the next day for Zoe, that she was also present at. The surgery ultimately helped to determine that Zoe did, in fact have lymphoma. I spent 6 months treating Zoe with oral chemotherapy, and I was able to make her comfortable and spend a bit more time with my baby girl. This was all thanks to Dr. Springer. When I thought it was time to say goodbye, Dr. Springer helped me to feel like I was doing the right thing and she reminded me what a good mother I had been to Zoe. Zoe was my first cat (besides the ones that my parents had when I was a kid) and I miss her terribly. However, I am so beyond thankful that we found Dr. Springer, and that she continue to take care of my other baby Jake, and my new baby doggie. Dr. Springer and everyone at East Side Veterinary care so much about animals and their doggie and kitty mommies and daddies. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for everything they have done for us over the past three years. I will be very sad the day that Dr. Springer retires from being a vet. Luckily, I am pretty sure that I am older than her, so hopefully I won't see that in my lifetime. :) Thank you Dr. Springer for being amazing and for helping to support me through the toughest decision I have ever had to make in my life and for continuing to care so deeply about our little family. read more

This was a terrible experience! My dog was examined by Dr. Lori Schneider a year and a half ago. I rescued this dog from a puppy mill where she was forced to breed for 8 years and was kept in a cage for all that time. When I first adopted her, I took her to this clinic which gave her shots and, otherwise, gave her a clean bill of health. She wasn't healthy. She had many bad teeth which the doctor didn't notice. I just recently had her operated on to take out a loose tooth. Dr. Schneider called me and told me she had to take out 7 teeth and that there was an infection. This sweet dog was in constant pain a year and a half more than she had to be. When I complained, the Dr. never returned my call. It's unconscionable. THIS DOCTOR IS INCOMPETENT!!! If I could, I would give this zero stars!!! read more

East Side Vet clinic has been a wonderful place for our puppy, who unexpectedly had to come home with us at 3 weeks old after her mother rejected the litter. They were patient and helpful in dealing with a very young pup, and have been great resources as she's grown (9 months old now!). All of the vets that we've met there have been lovely, but we've seen Dr. Scotto the most. She is very helpful with questions, and willing to discuss the pros and cons of different procedures, medications, vaccines, etc. as well as offering behavioral and training tips. Our puppy is always happy to go to the vet, and loves the front desk staff. They are easy to get hold of and have enough hours that even with our sometimes hectic schedules we can always find a time to bring her in. They've also started doing an online pet portal which is a great way to keep track of her records, upcoming appointments, etc. The only bad thing about the place is it's parking lot, which is sometimes very difficult to navigate/find a spot. Overall, it's a great option on the East Side, and I always feel like we get good care there. read more

I can't say that I'm a fan of Eastside Vet Clinic. I've taken my cat here twice and it's way overpriced. They wanted to charge me 516 dollars for injections, xrays, special foods etc because my cat had thrown up a few times. Then when I said no thanks, they talked down to me like I was a complete idiot for not doing what they recommended. We were in for a routine exam and I over heard one of the staff make an extremely rude and unprofessional comment about my recently deceased dog. This was not the first time a member of the staff had displayed a lack professionalism, but we chalked it up to, everyone has an off day....and let it slide. The clinic needs to do some serious work on it's level of professionalism, and staff training. Especially when it comes to grieving pet owners. A little care and sensitivity can go a long way. I cannot say enough good things about this place. (1) I called to make an emergency visit for my dog, he developed a severe case of kennel cough from a dog I adopted. I called this morning and they scheduled him an appointment that afternoon. (2) Even though he had a possibly contagious disease, they took appropriate precautions and didn't talk down or make me feel like an incompetent pet owner. (3) The entire staff was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, and understanding. I do not have the easiest of pups to deal with. I've never had a pet this sick so I had an awful lot of questions. (4) I'm not sure why so many people have complained about the price of care. Yes, a visit is maybe $10 more than most other places I've looked, but they are 10 minutes from my house and are open for working people hours, I don't have to take any time out of work. Kind of worth the extra money. (5) I do not believe they are only in it for the money. My dog came in with a very serious condition. I was given two estimates and two options. They did nothing without my consent and without explaining why they needed to do things. I will absolutely be coming here again for both of my dogs. Before I brought Riley in for his visit, he was lethargic, wouldn't walk down or up stairs on his own, was not eating or drinking, and had a very high fever. Within four hours of treatment he is already showing positive signs. He is eating (slowly and moderate amounts), and he is relieving himself as normal. My pug, Charlotte, has been seeing Dr. Springer for about 5 years. I have honestly never worked with a more compassionate, thorough, and professional doctor. Charlotte has had an array of problems from UTIs, crystals, infections, eye problems, dermatitis and other allergies, to diabetes scares etc, the list goes on, (pug life). Every visit, Dr. Springer was very clear in her approach, very vocal with me and her team, and always listened to my concerns/worries/fears and even crazy pug mom antics. She always explained every condition, medical term, went over results with me in thorough detail, gave me a variety of options to choose from, and ALWAYS made time to personally follow-up with me to check in on Charlotte. Even if Charlotte had to see a different doctor because of scheduling - Dr. Springer still ALWAYS called me to talk about Charlotte's illness. She is clearly very committed to her patients and the practice. Pugs are tough little creatures, and her understanding of the breed, and how to approach Charlotte's issues was really fantastic. I have never trusted a doctor as much as I trust Dr. Springer - and I know Charlotte feels the same. I wish my own PCP was as good as Dr. Springer. I would, without question, recommend her to any pet owner looking for a veterinarian for their fur child. Her + the team at East Side Vets are absolutely lovely - thank you all for taking such amazing care of my pug child. read more

I love East Side Vet! We first brought our 3 year old cat for a check-up this summer. Dr. Springer was very personable and willing to chat with us about how help our cat adjust to the new kitten we were planning to adopt. When we got the new kitten, we found out that she has quite a few medical issues (upper respiratory infection, coccidia ...) and staff has been kind and helpful every step of the way. They showed me how to administer kitten medications and gave me tips about how to make it go smoothly. I also thought their rates were much more reasonable than our former vet (which was in NYC). read more
