I went to Dr. Levine as my pcp and gyne for a couple of years…read more When I was having regular migraines out of the blue, she said she didn't know why, and said they probably weren't migraines (they were localized headaches with an aura and vomiting). She prescribed me an antidepressant, with no other follow up to try and determine the cause. I didn't like the drug, so I tapered off of it. At my next appt, she just shrugged her shoulders and didn't offer any other tests or solutions, than to say it might be an allergy. (After about 2 years, the migraines stopped as suddenly as they started.) I had a mole removed that she said she wasn't going to bother sending for biopsy, even though it had become itchy and reddish. Then the kicker was when I went in after having menstrual spotting every day for over a month. I told her that my periods had always beem highly irregular (I was in my late 20's at this point) and that despite not using an sort of birth control regularly, I had never gotten pregnant. She said that it sounded on paper like PCOS but that she wasn't going to test me for it because I don't "look like" I have it. Then she said I probably can't have kids, and that's that, and sent me out thw door to schedule my next routine appt. I did not schedule another appointment. A couple of years later my husband and I started trying to have a kid. I skipped the ob-gyn and went straight to a fertility specialist. Not only was I immediately diagnosed with PCOS that I've likely had since puberty, but the years of not being diagnosed and treated for it had lead to a precancerous endometrial growth. The best thing I ever did for my health was to find a different doctor.

However, Dr. Levine is an engaged, patient physician who took the time to look at my health carefully and holistically. She takes a measured approach that I really liked, taking my concerns to heart while not pushing me towards unnecessary diagnostics. Really top notch all around!

Dr. Abrams practices out of UPP Family Medicine on Wilkins Avenue in Sq Hill…read more Assigning a practice a number of stars is one thing but you should know that I trust Dr Abrams enough to have recommended him to SEVERAL of my own friends. In fact, he just delivered my friends baby boy this past summer! I like UPP Family Medicine bc it is a one stop shop for me in terms of medical care. There are four dr's at this practice, and while they do general family medicine they also do ob/gyn care and Dr. Xiao is my gynecologist and she is FANTASTIC. She's got the best bed side manner, my visits with her never feel rushed and she takes time to answer my questions, and (look away boys) she is a fantastic gyno and her exams are FAST AS HELL. Everyone hates their yearly exam. Dr. Xiao is like a ninja. By the time you start thinking about how much the exam sucks, it is over! Dr Xiao is also the first physician I've ever had to call me just to see how I was feeling and ask if I had any questions about or problems with a new medication I'd recently started to take. If you know anyone who is looking for a new physician, I cannot more highly recommend UPP Family Medicine. This practice is not just 5 stars good, its good enough that I recommended it to my own family members and friends. It's easy to get an appointment, the location is convenient, the staff is friendly, your appointments will not feel rushed and you will receive proper, thorough medical care. (also all the magazines in the office are new, nothing is worse than having to read through a two year old copy of Family Circle)

I was billed and sent to collections for a copay that was payed up front. The office corrected this mistake, but how does that happen so frequently? They even have a box of "lost copays". Veronica, she is the nurse who hung up on my wife twice simply because she was agitated that my wife was struggling to find words to communicate regarding her missing prescription that was failed to be called in. Overall, I am still looking for a doctors office that is holistically centered, but with a professional office team.

(My new doctor took care of this in under 3 minutes) Now, the real reason that made me decide to leave this doctor.  The general health blood test (something I requested -- it was not suggested by him) came back with some concerning results, and I have to say I was stressed out about it.  However, I never got a phone call back from the doctor.  He told his staff to tell me to get re-tested in two months.  I had many questions and would have appreciated some advice from a doctor, but I never received any. I cannot recommend this doctor.

Much like the other…read morereviewer, they very specifically mentioned that she is "very thorough", which I thought was hilarious since it made me think of the Big Lebowski. Anyway, my experience with her did not live up to the high praise. It was, frankly, horrifying. I was surprised when I got there, the office was a bit of a mess, but it's a family practice so I guess there are frequently kids in the waiting room. The nurse or PA who took me back was incredibly brusque, and just gave me a sort of odd look when I tried to be friendly or make a joke. Once we got into the exam room, she was even more unfriendly, snapping at me when she couldn't figure out how to input something or another into the electronic medical record. I was, at this point, already feeling tempted to walk out, but I moved to PGH recently and needed a new PCP. Dr. Xia was friendly at first. She asked a lot of questions about my medical history, my family's medical history, etc. But after going through all of this and giving her honest answers to her questions, she became agitated and expressed displeasure at the fact that I take a particular medication - one that has been prescribed repeatedly for me over the years, by multiple physicians. I was taken aback, and asked her to explain why she thought this particular drug was so bad (if it's bad, I obviously don't want to be taking it) and at that point she actually started yelling at me. It was like being berated by an angry parent. I was completely taken aback and on my way out expressed to the receptionist that this was the worst treatment I'd ever received from a physician in my life. I was close to tears while waiting for the bus to get me the hell out of Squirrel Hill. I have yet to send a complaint to UPMC but I need to. I just can't imagine ever treating a patient that way. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone.
