The middle school is great but the high school is interesting at best, My cousin goes there and…read moretells us about how lunch is only about 15-20 minutes. are they supposed to shove their food down all quick and have no time to socialize with friends? there's no cafeteria and the lunch is short as hell! There's no good class options or elective options and there's not even enough core classes for everyone there to take and they have to double it one year. The school is also a bit small, for being open for 20+ years you'd think they'd upgrade to a larger building considering there's classes with 30-40 people. This is a realistic review for parents planning to enroll their children here, if anything take them to a public school.

I have two kids that have gone to this school since the sixth grade. Both are in high school now…read moreand we are very happy. We like the small classroom size and the personal touch the teachers are able to give. For being such a small school, they offer a good selection of athletics for both boys and girls from middle through high school

This school is amazing! Our kids have been at FVMS for more than five years, and we have had such a…read morepositive experience. We've had wonderful teachers, friendly and caring staff, and supportive administrators who truly want the best for the students. Middle school can be a tough season, but our years at FVMS have been great! One of my biggest pieces of advice is to get involved in whatever your student enjoys--PTA, band boosters, chorus boosters, drama boosters, athletic boosters, or another school organization. Getting involved is such a great way to meet other families, support the school, and really feel like part of the FVMS community. We are so thankful for the teachers, staff, administrators, and families who make FVMS such a special place!

Update on my son's progress since last November. We have been continually working with Student…read moreLearning Recovery and Ms. Leslie for the past 6 months Plus and my son is on track to pass the third grade, EVEN WITH all of the new standards that are being set. Ms. Leslie helped me navigate the School System as well and get my son to be recognized as having a Specific Reading Disorder, to get additional support in the school. I continue to be amazed at how much my son loves going to see Ms. Leslie, even as he is complaining about not wanting to go to school every day (not sure if you can relate to that at all?? ;0) The vast knowledge that Ms. Leslie has in this area is truly a vision to behold... her systems are artistic in a way, finding new avenues to bring even more success out of my son. I am forever indebted to what she has given my son... it goes way beyond reading. it is about restoring his faith in himself, that he is not "Stupid" but just has a brain that is amazing and unique. We continue to work with Ms. Leslie and plan to for years to come, with our other sons.

During a parent / teacher conference this past spring, we were advised our son Matthew (who was in…read more3rd grade) was falling behind in class in several areas. We immediately began searching for a tutor, in the hope that we could help Matthew with his struggles. After reading about the methods applied at Student Learning Recovery, we decided to give them a try. Leslie of Student Learning Recovery worked with Matthew and was able to identify key areas where he was deficient, below grade level in certain areas. Leslie applied her methods of Visual Perception Therapy twice a week, and we began to see improvement over the course of several months. Matthew's teacher also noticed that he was now keeping pace with the class. Matthew finished the school year strong, passing his End of Grade (EOG) exams for math and reading comprehension. Thank you Leslie for helping Matthew succeed in school!

The camp has upgraded some of its living areas by renovating 7 of the 12 bathrooms in one of the hotel-style buildings - The Lodge. The walk overs to this build have been replaced. A railing has been installed from the driveway down to the bottom level. There is now a sidewalk from the large modern kitchen / dining hall & chapel (which is multi-purpose) to The Lodge. The sidewalk has been continued from The Lodge all the way down the road to the Retreat Center. The Retreat Center has a medium-sized kitchen, a meeting room, a conference room and accommodations. This new sidewalk means the someone who needs assistance can go from the Dining Hall/Chapel all the way down the road to the Retreat Center. The camp also has WiFi in the Dining Hall, The Lodge, and Retreat Center. It will soon have WiFi at the smaller cabin further down the road - Gerhard Cabin.

I was incredibly excited about this field trip. I was aware that the facility would require masks…read more"if indoors". Understanding and agreeing to this, if I had known this field trip would become all about masks, even while outdoors, I would have passed. That being said, my issues with the trip are more than just in regards to masks. Upon arriving, we were instructed to gather for some rules and instructions. Our children were exposed to staff members disclosing their vaccination status. I'm not sure why that mattered and was put in the intro, but absolutely UNNECESSARY. Keep that information to yourself and especially away from my innocent children's ears. If your facility and staff feel adults want to know that information, I suggest you put that on your website or communicate that to the ADULTS planning the trip. After way too long of an intro (which had children losing interest right off the bat), we split into our groups. I can't speak for my older children's group other than what they relayed to me, which was "Our teacher was boring and she talked too much. We were outside and she kept telling us to put our masks on even though we weren't near each other." My younger daughter's group played physical games which kids in this age group enjoy, however, my child injured her ankle and couldn't participate. So she sat unable to participate for the entire first half of the day. While her group did play physically, the teacher in this group also talked way too much. I can appreciate passion for things being taught but when you are dealing with children, too much talking is never good. They lose interest and don't absorb what they are being taught. I asked my children what they learned and if they want to go back they unanimously said "NO" while saying they didn't learn much. That breaks my mama heart as this was suppose to be a fun and educational day. Before leaving, I did take the time to stop into the main office and share the above info. Where I was greeted with hostile responses. I know the world is quite emotional right now but when someone gives honest feedback, it should be welcomed (good and bad). Feedback allows businesses (that care) the ability to see where room for improvement can be made. Being hostile, shows this facility does not care about its future business and does not want to grow. While I respect my children's desire to not return, have my encounter with the front office been different, perhaps I would be open to returning. But given the employees responses, we will not be back again. I'm a big believer in not just leaving a negative review without pointing out some positives... -Their facility is beautiful. -The staff (while pushy and ridiculous outdoors in regards to masking) were polite. -The day was planned well for the multiple age groups attending the event.
