As some of the other reviews testify, it is possible to have a positive experience renting from Easirent, but I think the odds are against you. Here is the story of our rental experience beginning December 21st, 2017 at Heathrow Airport in London.
The first challenge is getting there. They don't have their own bus - you use the airport HOPA bus system that primarily serves hotels. At some hours of the day it only comes every half hour. Then it stops at three hotels before getting to Easirent. It took us almost an hour to get to the front door.
When you open that door, you enter a tiny room that is too small to form a line to the desk so it is a free for all getting to the front. When you get there, someone asks you for your name and checks a list to confirm you have a reservation. Then he directs you up a stairway to the second floor where you wait in another line. When you reach an agent, he hands you a piece of paper and asks you to fill out all your contact information. When you give it to him and he enters it in his computer. I had already done all this once on-line.
Then the hard sell on upcharges begins, but with greater intensity than I had ever experienced. Their insurance was going to cost more than the cost of the car rental itself! I explained that I had purchased other PRIMARY insurance in addition to my own car insurance that fully covered me. That was not good enough for him. He went into a long intimidating sermon on all the other possible risks that my insurance might not cover. Finally, he told me that if I was not going to accept their insurance he would have to place a 1,250-pound hold on my credit card that would be charged up front if I returned the car damaged. When that was over, he started on gas. I said I would return it full. Well, even so, they charge you 90 pounds up front for gas - and not a hold - an actual charge on your credit card!
Then came the real kicker. They had to charge me a 35-pound penalty because I showed up EARLY! This was December 21st - it's winter, it's Christmas, airplanes are packed, we are coming from another country, we have to go through customs so I allowed several hours for unexpected events, having had a reservation cancelled years ago for showing up late under similar circumstances. He agreed that showing up late could have cancelled my reservation, but showing up early has penalties as well. I signed the charge slip under protest, took a picture and have submitted a protest to my credit card company.
When we went outside our car was waiting, but I had to walk around with an agent first and record any damage on another form. One hubcap was scratched, so I asked the agent how much I would be charged if I scuffed another one. He said their minimum charge for any damage was 150-pounds - a plastic hubcap that is not broken - just scratched, and they don't even replace it. They advertise that they rent new cars. This may have been a 2017 model, but it had over 25,000 miles on it. That is over two years' worth of normal miles for an individual and these were rental miles.
Then came the return. The plane left early in the morning so we decided to turn the car in the night before. When we picked up the car I made a point of asking the agent for the post code for the return. He showed me the address on the rental contract, circled it and underlined the post code. When we got back to the airport I dropped my wife and luggage off at the hotel and got back in the car to return it. Somehow the rental contract was misplaced during our 12 day trip, so I could not get the post code off of it. Rather that walking back to the room and hunting through our luggage, I just searched for Easirent in Google Maps on my phone. Two locations came up at Heathrow, but one specifically said "Easirent Car Hire" so I clicked on it. It took me to an empty office building parking lot just off Bath Road. So I put the other one in and it took me to another office building parking lot just off the other end of Bath Road. Annoyed, I Googled the phone number and called. An agent answered but put me on hold until the phone timed out and gave me a busy signal. So, I Googled reservations and called it. It didn't time out - it just left me on hold until I gave up and called my wife. She rummaged in our luggage until she found the rental contract with the post code underlined. That took me back to the first empty parking lot! So, I called my wife back again and she found a card inserted with the contract that said they were right next to the Leonardo Hotel. So, I put that in Google Maps and went there no Easirent in sight. So, I asked a security guard if he knew. He explained that it was the next street back the way I had come. To get there I had to drive several miles down Bath Road, make a U turn and go several miles the other way to get past the street, make another U turn and come back. That finally worked. And then there was the check in. read more
