Mike Shea came to us highly recommended by Alessandro Tile, LLC. Unfortunately, he did not live up…read moreto the hype. First off, he is full-time Waterbury, CT fireman and part-time painter. He quoted the job over the phone on 12 May 2022 I should have been wary when he asked for half the money at the beginning of work and the balance upon completion. That's usually a sign of a workman who is not confident in his work. He and Kevin, his former partner, arrived on the job-site on 11 Jul 2022. That day they primed the cabinets; If you like sarcastic workman whom you let into your home, Mr. Shea is the painter for you. When I asked him how he could quote the job over the phone and not make any effort to come and see the job, neither meeting us first, nor providing a sample, he stated, "cause I'm that good." That day they were in such a hurry that they didn't TSP the cabinets and left a shelf and a portion of one cabinet not touched by primer. They left with the drawer fronts and cabinet doors. I sent him photos of the incomplete work and he said Kevin would return the next day and prime what was missed and apply the first coat of the finish. Kevin did spend some time the next day and was good enough to move the refrigerator out so that he could paint the alcove, after I asked about it, but it was not primed first. Next day was the third day on the job and by the end of it there were many major blemishes: orange peeling, tear-drop drips as well as drips of paint on the stove, This was another day that they bum-rushed the job. When I sent him a photo, he was kind enough to tell me how I could clean it off the stove. Needless to say, I left it for him. When Mr. Shea came to re-install the doors and drawer fronts, I showed him my concerns, and to his credit, he did address them. I payed him and he left. I am still adjusting door fronts and completing the touch-ups associated with the rubbing of the doors and drawers because they were not properly installed (European hinges). I payed the man, but I would not recommend anyone let him do their cabinets. He's probably a good exterior painter; but, I thought the old saying was that "painters make their money inside." I'd grade this job a solid C.

When I contacted FreshCoat, I said "I usually just paint myself, but I bought this crazy metallic…read morepaint at Target, and it looks like it's complicated to apply. Do you have experience with this type of paint?" Reassurances all around. The painter, Doug, called me with a litany of "faux finish" jobs he had done that looked great. He painted the room with my paint, and after two coats, he packed up, reassuring me that it was going to look great when it dried. Well, after a day or two, it was clearly a disaster. I called Barbara, who came out to look and of course said that the job needed to be fixed. Score 1 star for FreshCoat. Barbara (admini) and Douglas (painter) met and decided that I needed to use paint that he was familiar with. This seemed totally reasonable, and I figured I should have known better than to buy house paint at Target. So I went to Lowes and purchased the primer, base coat, and metallic that they recommended. Douglas came back, forgot to use the primer (he read the paint cans wrong), and finished the job with his recommended paint. Again, he packed up and left with reassurances. The picture that I'm attaching isn't of wet paint, or of one coat when another was planned. This was the finished job, several days later. I called poor Barbara to complain again, and again she came out to look at it. I told her that I was not going to pay for the full rate of painting, and we settled on a price for their effort plus several days of work, etc. 800 dollars. I am giving two stars because I appreciated that the owners were apologetic, rather than trying to make it seem like I was crazy or too demanding. Barbara's parting words were "Doug usually does a really good job..." They didn't offer to send another painter to fix it, and I didn't insist, because at that point it had gone on for over a week and I was tired of having people in the house. I ended up getting boring, non-metallic paint and painting it myself. It was a total waste of a thousand dollars (when I add the cost of many cans of paint).

He left the paint on the floor to dry for over a week to make sure I get long lasting results. He rushes and gets paint all over ceilings and floor then "plans" to clean at the end. He did an incredible job leaving a ton of texture and bare spots on every area that he worked on even though he told me he added more coats of paint than we agreed upon. The "pro" did not require to use tape on the entire trim and edges and left everything crooked! The amount of respect he'll show your newly bought home will shock you. He was very good at constantly calling and texting me to pay him after I escorted his things out with "the boys in blue". I gladly decided to take on the cleaning myself and I will be hiring a PRO to look over his stunning work! There's so much more to the story but I'll leave it at that. Good luck!

Luis is a nice man however it is obvious he does not know how to work with stain. He feels the results are perfect however no, not at all. I just had two professional painters confirm that the playset is ruined and it will take significant steps to correct. The playset is so destroyed by his shotty staining that it actually requires replacement. I have added screenshots of text messages in which he claims the job was complete. Only after telling him that I was going to withhold final payment did he offer to stop by to "fix" the job. The job is unrepairable. He claims that, with stain, I am supposed to see all the brush marks and that the playset looks great. Obviously it doesn't and the pictures don't lie. He walked away from the job after I explained that his "solution" to slather more stain won't do anything to address the terrible work. This is all on video from my surveillance system. He has left me multiple voicemails with threats to remove the photos I posted, which I won't.
