I found the preaching excellent, the music likewise, and there are numerous and varied opportunities for spiritual growth. However, I must rate the church "average" for one reason: the Senior Pastor jet-sets all over the world and tries to dress it up with a "stained glass" excuse of "carrying the gospel hear, near and far." In fact, I think he's likely OUT of the country more than he is IN it. On weekends he preaches, he tells the congregation about weekends he was absent; stating he just returned from South America, Indonesia, Africa, Sri Lanka, wherever! Anyone with any degree of familiarity with foreign travel can easily discern that this activity has to cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars annually when the frequency is considered. There is airfare, ground transportation, food, lodging and miscellaneous expense associated with this kind of a lifestyle. It is dressed up in the "stained glass" excuse of "carrying the gospel here, near and far." (I would say "near" is a better idea; there have to be tens of thousands within the outer limits of the church locally who could benefit from the gospel and/or the expenditure of funds this travel entails.) The church is about to change Senior Pastors; the new one takes office September 1. However, the old one is "transitioning" into a role in which he will continue this lifestyle. If anything, I expect he'll do more of it. I simply cannot support this, and In my opinion, it is simply shameless jet-setting on someone else's dime. For this reason, I don't pledge and must rate the church "average" even though "excellent" would otherwise be in order.

While I am not a member of this church, I have visited 4 or 5 times over the past year, and each time, I have come away with the following views of this community: 1) They're all about the person, Jesus Christ. He lived and He died and He rose again - for all of us. 2) They're going to love on you. People are genuinely welcoming, and not in a superficial way. 3) The teaching is powerful, intellectually challenging, and thoroughly Bible-centric. It was weird that a can of pop was $2 and a bottle of water was $3. There were lines for the bathrooms but it moved fast. Tonight was Kristian Standfill who sings Jesus paid it all and Cain. Our seats were far away in 306 section. It was not that bad leaving the parking lot as we chatted inside after the show. This is a mega church that holds 4500 or more for a concert.

I used to visit this church as a child with my Mother in the 90's, so it was a little nostalgic to wonder around the church and recognizing places I visited decades ago. The conference was three days and I attended 2 of 3. Friday night was praise and worship and the word that was brought forth by Pastor Tims. The praise and worship team were in sync and they definitely brought the praise with the worship; I had agreat time! They had the words of the song listed on the walls, so that I can sing along, if I wasn't familiar. I met very friendly people, a lot were very personable. The church had a wonderful lighting and display. The brunch on Saturday was amazing! Well served, good food and the message on both days was delicious to my spirit. Surprisingly, the brunch and entire event was FREE! Kudos to the Pastor, who was present for both days. I will visit more conferences.

Updated Review What…read moreDrew Me to the Church After a challenging season away from the Lord and the church, I returned to faith and prayerfully chose Epiphany Covenant Church over another local congregation. What drew me was a genuine alignment of core values: a commitment to making and deepening disciples, identifying and raising up servant leaders, Spirit-filled worship and Sunday messages, inter-generational youth services. I did not choose Epiphany casually. I chose it prayerfully. What I Appreciated: Epiphany has real strengths. The intimate church setting was meaningful, and our family received supportive outreach during times of need. The preaching carried authority, and I genuinely appreciated the incorporation of the Advent tradition and the inter-generational services. Serving in youth ministry was a privilege, and participating in the pilot Bible study series in the Summer of 2023 was a highlight. To my surprise, I was later invited to a leadership meeting that Fall -- a moment that became pivotal in my discernment about my future at Epiphany. Transition, Concerns, and Recommendations: Ongoing concerns surfaced in the meeting that I had set aside for too long and bubbled over as I tearfully disclosed to the group. Following the leadership meeting, I began prayerfully reassessing my membership and pastor seemed attentive to those concerns. What emerged, I could not in good conscience set aside. On pastoral accountability and boundaries: After sharing these private concerns in good faith, I later experienced these matter surfacing publicly from the pulpit through a sermon series: Content. When I requested a direct meeting to address this: the connection was denied while his personal philosophy was upheld "we are one in Christ regardless of our relationship status" which in essence is true yet it also dismisses our lived experience. Its no different than the belief that "we're all the human race regardless of color" As a black woman in America, my lived experiences and its impact are different than my white counterpart. I was open about finding it hard to believe the series wasn't "inspired" by a private matters given several parallels. Thereafter, I questioned what objective pastoral oversight & accountability Pastor Farmer has outside of Epiphany. Despite being deeply concerned, I stayed at Epiphany for an additional year at the guidance of my pastoral counselor. I was not surprised when the emailed notification of our family's transition from Epiphany Covenant Church went unacknowledged by Pastor Kevin Farmer. The process of shepherding servant leaders: I observed that the pathway to leadership at Epiphany prioritizes service and involvement over a careful evaluation of a person's spiritual health, private witness, and alignment with biblical standards of discipleship. Assuming salvation and sanctification among those being raised up -- rather than actively evaluating it -- is a gap that has real consequences for the congregation's integrity and safety. I offered this feedback during a 1-1 with pastor as I seek to bring solutions and unity for the sake of the body. For prospective members who are single: I would strongly encourage you to ask specific, direct questions about their ministry infrastructure for singles before committing. Inquire not just about programming, but about whether your season of life will be actively seen, supported, and shepherded as modeled by Christ. The Lord led me to local family church where I am seen, known, and loved. It is well with my soul and my joy is restored. I pray Epiphany grows in ministering to the whole person and prioritize biblical discipleship, and the minority as Christ did.

I love the church's dedication to music and the arts and to mission programs that help the less fortunate. And I appreciate the spiritual message that is based on Christian love. While being a neighborhood church meant that parking was a little adventurous (there being no parking lot I could see), the evening was pleasant and there were many options within less than a block's walk. While the external architecture was harder to make out in the dark, both the outside and especially the inside reminded me of old New England churches growing up, with the dark woods and intimate atmosphere. Maybe that's what I liked about the place. This was not some gargantuan church with a thousand members, this appears to be a small community congregation - their names and pictures are on a board inside! - and the space is well used and well loved. While presumably not everyone at the music concert was not from the congregation (like me), it was clear some were, and their hospitality was evident throughout the evening. I gripe fairly often about how distant a lot of people in Minnesota can be much of the time, but this place and its people redeemed it for me, at least for an evening. The reception afterwards was heavenly. So nice to see such a vibrant church continuing its life in the community.
