This group does the 401k management for my employer and offers additional wealth management…read moreadvising services. They do an ... okay ... job. The main issue with this group (or at least the partner in the group that services my employer) is that they don't stay particularly well-informed about the businesses they service. When I booked a slot as an employee and went to see them the first time, the guy told me that his #1 piece of advice for me was to open an HSA. I went home and tried to do so, but in looking at my benefits package I realized that my employer did not offer a high deductible health plan ... so I could not open an HSA. I called and pointed this out, he said, "Huh ... okay." The other big issue with this group is their modeling. Like many firms, they will do a needs and resources assessment, ask you about your goals, run a monte carlo simulation, and then give you a savings target and hypothetical portfolio performance. I have no problem at all with this general approach, but the numbers they gave me were an order of magnitude different from what I had seen when I did my own calculations or had other firms (Fidelity, etc.) do analyses. Finance is not my area of expertise, so I will refrain from criticizing their model or methods directly, but I would caution anyone who is considering using this group to seek several opinions and have several groups do your financial analysis so you can compare. Check the model's assumptions and always keep in mind the way that these firms make money (usually they take a portion of assets under management).
