I like this Emart better than Grandmart. It's less crowded. It's much cleaner. Workers here are friendlier. Plus, you can get Farm Fresh chicken at their deli. Parking is spacious. The meat department is much better, well organized and cheaper than Grandmart. Although, they don't carry some of the Asian ingredients like Grandmart, I'm ok with that. They are newer. read more

The cleanest international grocery around. No stench. Not as many produce options as I was expecting but really good quality and I was able to find the yams I needed for okonomiyaki. They have many options I've not been able to find elsewhere, so many that it can be overwhelming. So many more sauce options than other places, and they also don't have a wall full of pictures of black people accusing them of stealing. So that's a plus! If you're looking for novelty Asian options like deserts and instant ramen, they have aisles full of them. Can't wait to go back for these great prices, and they're not overly packed so nobody has to stand outside in line to go. Wheelchair accessible, nice clean and wide aisles, helpful employees and if you need to use EBT you can do it here without any qualms or judgy looks from employees. read more

For a grocery store of this type this place is immaculate. It's stocked with so many different things you should be able to find all the things you need for your grocery shopping or korean barbecue! Normally you go to a grocery store like this and you would assume things would be all over the place and messy but this place is stocked beautifully and is ridiculously clean compared to other international grocery stores. Cost of products seem to be extremely affordable but I'm not an expert on price. The staff here is incredibly kind and helpful and the owner seems to be looking for new ways to improve their business for their customers. Amazing place and people, will def be back. read more

They have good produce and meats here. I love the fact that they have enoki mushrooms and sliced meat. I don't have to go too far to a competiting Asian grocer to grab some essentials. I also like the fact that theh have bottled sikhye (rice drink) and canned options as well. Hopefully they'll have banana milk cartons next time by Binggrae. They have more Korean, Mexican, and Filipino stuff than other things. They have a few European condiments and stuff as well. Hopefully there will be a lot more options here, including Japanese stuff. Other than that, I love the abundant kitchen stuff that they have, especially the gas stove, portable gas bottle, and stove top grill, and hotpot pans. I loved the fact that they had coffee and teapots here as well as clear glass cups and mugs. I hope they grow a lot more but I'm happy nonetheless that they're around the neighborhood. read more

The reason I love this store is the kindness of the staff. I've been to other international markets and most of the time they won't even speak. Their fruits and vegetables are fresh. And the prices of the meat is reasonable. I haven't tried the seafood yet but it looks pretty good. The endless options of seasonings gets me excited about cooking again. Typical Asian market. The shelves aren't fully stocked yet and thought their prices were a tad higher than some of the other similar markets. My way of judging these stores is the freshness of the seafood and I'm impressed. We purchased 2 pollack fish and had them filleted. Not on bone which indicates to me that they know what they are doing. Didn't eat the fish until the next day and the fish smelled as fresh as the day we bought them. read more

I was so ecstatic to know that we were getting an international market place in our neighborhood. I found my favorite Hawaiian drinks (Hawaiian Sun) and snacks. I also love cooking Asian and Hispanic cuisine for my family and this store has EVERYTHING we need. Me being from Hawaii made it feel more like home. Everything is more expensive than farmers on lynnhaven. The rice I usually get is 26.99 at farmers and it's a whopping 32.99 at E mart! People don't know what they're doing, everything I ask is either "we don't carry it or I don't know" cashier takes forever to ring in the product bc they don't know how much it cost. Love it! They have Basa, which is a white catfish pond raised in South Korea! It has no bones and does not smell or taste fishy. Very fresh and it melts in your mouth ! Even better, it costs a mere $3.99 a lb. The Talapia is the same price, per lb and is very good. Their food prices are much more affordable than your regular retail grocery store! Shop at your own risk!!! I'm only giving one star because I can't post the review without leaving a star. I have shopped here many times. I have enjoyed the different product and all of the different international items. I was always telling people to give them a try as they had all different kinds of items. As of this last shopping trip here I will NEVER go back nor refer anyone to go there. On two separate occasions I have had to return items due to freshness/mold and/or packaging issues. Each time the person doing the return was completely disrespectful and acted as if I was to blame. The first time I opened the product and the seal that is underneath the lid was missing and most of the product wasn't there. Almost like it has been used!?! They said some of the items didn't come with seals. Which I found odd. The young lady and I went back and forth about the seal and how some items didn't have them etc and guess what? The second one that I got had a seal. The second occasion I bought a Korean BBQ marinade and there was green mold under the screw cap!! I know what mold looks like!!! The paper seal that was there slid right off and there was a clump of what appeared to be black mold. Maybe it had been dropped and came loose in transit or something who knows. I know things happen. I had my nephew take the product back for me as he was out running errands. It was told to him that I did not know my Asian spices. That was rude and I cook Asian dishes all of the time. That was twice they disputed a refund or an exchange with an attitude. Last time they get my business. read more

As a native of the Bay Area and coming from northern Virginia before moving to Chesapeake, my kids and I were pretty disappointed of the selection of e mart. There weren't any homerun balls and other Korean snacks available, as well as many of the essential Korean side dishes. I was hoping to be able to purchase Korean foods such as kimbap or dotolimook, jjokbal... or at the very least marinated meats but they were nowhere to be found. Prices for peeled garlic, which is essential for Korean dishes, were over priced. I will most likely not be returning to this located unless I can't find what I need specifically. read more

Huge selection of Mexican and Asian style food. Employees were nice but some were a little busy talking about their day, in Spanish. Some of the noodles were priced much higher than WalMart. Hard to compete with that place. At the seafood counter we Asian folk encountered more people having their own conversation but hated to interupt to request food. The guy was giving us all small oysters until we convinced him to trade a few for larger ones. At home we found an empty oyster and 30% of others were tiny. We dont live close by kempsville or we would have returned them. Ruined our dinner. My suggestion is to speak fluent Spanish while u r ordering something that the employee gets to choose your portion size. Those oysters were 80 cents each and we were ignored some. I wonder who the large oysters are being saved for? Next time we are in Tidewater, we will try an establishment where all customers are treated well, regardless of culture. read more
