NEWSFLASH: If you have ever noticed the carved "wooden trees" on the edge of Lincoln (Abraham) Park-they are REAL trees that have been ravaged by beetles and instead of tearing them down-they were converted into works of art by RON GARD as part of the Chicago Tree Project.
FACTS:
Installation Duration: Fall 2014 - Indefinitely
Artist: Ron Gard
Medium: Carved ash tree
Year Created: 2014
Features: Artworks / Monuments, Outdoor, Temporary, Sculpture
Instead of tearing down trees in the City of Chicago that have been ravaged by Emerald Ash Borer Beetles, The Chicago Tree Project allows artists to create art so that the trees may be transformed into sculptures and other art forms throughout the city. These works of art serve as a symbol of educational enlightenment about the problems associated with these "hungry" and "destructive" and "invasive" species of insects.
