Zero stars. If you have a house full of junk and want to pay someone a ton of money to throw it all away, these are your people. Do not expect any money from items sold, do not expect a reasonable amount of items to be donated (most will be thrown in the trash). They will stop communicating with you when you have questions about what they have done with your "auction items", and you will receive almost nothing for them. We asked for something back that they said they could not sell, and they went silent. And remember to take pictures of anything valuable, because they will claim no such thing existed. You will not be told of anything valuable that you may have overlooked, they will take it. The "inventory" of items to be sold, a barely readable hand written list. No pictures, no detailed description. Unless you want to throw your money and your goods away, go elsewhere. read more

The original quote I received, based on what I thought would needed to be done was reasonable. In the end we had only two items for them to remove. They came and found that I had finished all the cleaning and removal. There was next to nothing left for them to finish. We put everything in our own dumpster. The bill was even higher than the first one and they refused to lower the bill. Chiseled us big time. read more

Settling an estate and more specifically, cleaning out the house of a loved one can be a daunting task. After asking several friends and relatives if they wanted furniture we ourselves had no use for, we had several pieces to get rid of before the closing on the property. Salvation Army and similar organizations will not enter a house for liability purposes and most of the remaining pieces were in the basement and not easy for us to move, let alone research disposing of. The Dutiful Daughter was recommended by our real estate agent as well as a coworker of my husbands. After a very positive experience with them picking up the remaining furniture that no one wanted, my husband stated that he wished he contacted them at the start of this process. I contacted them with less than 2 weeks left until the closing on the house and Marsha was pleasant, informative and squeezed a pickup in one day later on very short notice. After arriving promptly at the designated time, in less than 45 minutes, the remaining upholstered and wood pieces were loaded into a box truck and gone. We received receipts for what was removed, some to be disposed of and other pieces ( dining room table and 4 chairs) that would be placed on consignment for sale and we'd receive cash back if they sold. Dutiful Daughter is a family owned business that is quick, professional and courteous. Their workers were conscientious when cleaning out to bring items to my attention that may be valuable/sentimental. I highly recommend them with the job they did for me in Unionville. One thing, and they made this clear several times from the start ... many items no matter their value only fetch pennies on the dollar. If you're not ready to receive less (way less) than $1000 for all the house's high-end contents, I strongly recommend you call a local antique dealer to come in and make bids before their clean out, or have an in-house sale yourself. DD makes the effort to get high-end items to auction but there you take your chances too. They stay in touch with you after the clean out when they question the value of an item - nice! I thought I did my homework but was wrong. The price quoted to me is not the price that was charged in the end. I did not appreciate listening to the workers razz and bust each other while they should have been being productive or complaining that when they were done they had to go help at another site. Maybe that's why things slipped through their attention. I also did not appreciate them complaining how hot it was. I am not in control of the weather. If it was to hot for them maybe they should have cancelled. Things that should have been brought to my attention were thrown out or donated and items like an old plastic container with sugar in it was brought to me ?!?! This house did not have a-lot in it and should not have cost me their final figure. NOT kept on budget is a big rake over the coals. Would not and will not ever recommend. read more

We had a complicated clean-out on a tight time-frame to close on the sale of our home. The anxious buyers showed up on site and kept confusing and slowing down the crew since we as sellers were already out of state. Even when things did not go exactly as planned, everyone kept their cool and completed the job on-time and on budget. Even after the job was over the customer service is always top-notch and they will try to make the process as painless as possible. They will work with you to get as much of your job into the right hands as possible. Just try to organize your belongings and define what is to be dumped, donated, or auctioned off and the crew will accommodate as best as they can at a very fair price. read more

For donations and throwing away items, Dutiful Daughter receives a 5 star rating. The staff are professional and helpful and the 'movers' did a great job. However, if your intent is to try and sell something, you are much better off either getting a tax donation or trying to sell the item(s) yourself either on Craigslist or Ebay. The auction houses who sell or purchase the items should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of the seller. When my father passed away, they sold 8 lamps for a total of $50, one of the lamps being valued at several hundred dollars. I should have learned my lesson...but I recently moved and once again hired them to assist with the removal and sale of several items and they sold a beautiful Hermes scarf for $6 of which I would have seen about $4 due to the 35% commission. I vehemently complained and they have requested it back from the buyer. read more
