    Colemans Art Shop

    Colemans Art Shop

Coleman's Art shop is located on the High Street in Stamford. Unfortunately it is only a small…read morestore and can sometimes get very cramped and difficult to view the products on display. It stocks a wide range of craft items, with a very good range for card makers to buy; there is also a good range of painting related products on display. Do not miss the small room at the back as sometime products are not where you may expect them to be and often I will find an item in the room at the rear that I expected to find in the front of the shop, and just presumed they were out of stock of. The main staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly however I do find that if someone has been brought in from the stationary shop next door to cover a shift then their product knowledge is poor. They are also very willing to try and order in an out of stock item for you.

'Coleman's' is a great place to pop into when you need a crafty item. They have a huge variety of…read moreproducts and stock, which lets you really choose what you want to get. The prices are a little bit steep for some of the items, but then on other occasions, you can grab a real bargain when you look around. The assistants are very helpful, and will use their personal knowledge to offer advice and help to the customers who require it. If there is ever something you want, which they don't stock, they are always willing to order it in for you. These goods then tend to be received very shortly after the order is placed, making it even more efficient.

Hobbcraft is a really large store split over two floors with every single craft item for sale that…read moreyou can possibly want. Ranges include sewing and cross stitch, card, paper, photo frames, glues, embellishments, glass painting, build your own model railways and other items, doll making and so much more, the list is endless. There are loads of leaflets around the store with craft ideas on that show you step by step guides on how to complete a project which are great. There are usually plenty of staff around on the shop floor which are pretty helpful when it comes to finding items that you need. It is the first place that I think of when wanting to do a craft project because you can get so much here, although it is quite a bit more expensive than high street stores. You could probably get some of the items in places like Wilkinsons or Poundland for a lot less, but the variety wouldn't be there. The parking is a bit of a nightmare at weekends as the car park is shared with Matalan which is next door and sometimes it is impossible to get a space which is frustrating.

I find Hobbycraft quite expensive but there is nowhere else to get that much of a range and…read morevariation on art and craft stuff! You can find books, help to start a new hobby, many types of card and paper, craft kits for adults and children, free ideas leaflets, a massive scrapbooking section, pens, pencils, paints, wool, rug making, model making, warhammer and tons moreyou name it they prob have got it! Its really good!!!

LOCATION// Inside the Old Town Deli & Cafe, straight at the back. Walk inside, past the stairs and…read moreserving counter and you will see a door at the very back. What looks like a utility closet is actually the art shop. SPACE/STAFF//I was looking forward to visiting this shop. I knew it was going to be small, but nothing prepared me for how small. It's like a stationery cupboard. They do manage to pack in a lot of things in the tiny space, but unfortunately it's so small that you can feel the eyes of the staff person boring into your back as you try to have a look around. And in my case, the lady behind the register was not very nice at all. She gave me dubious looks and hurried me as if she thought I was going to steal something. Not very comfortable experience. I didn't really mind the small space as much as the unfriendly customer service. Even if they did have what I want, it put me off coming back. From what I did manage to see, before I was made to feel completely unwelcome, things are more expensive than you can get elsewhere and not that much stock because of the limited space. So if you're looking for something specific, you might not find it here. But if what you want isn't at W.H. Smith, at least you have the option of looking in here..

Yes, as stated by a previous reviewer, The Artery is a small shop but packs a great deal in. If…read moreyou need something which is not in stock, Barry and his team will order it for you for prompt delivery. The shop represents the SAA (Society for All Artists) locally which gives access to their wide range of products. The Art classes and workshops bookable through the shop are excellent and offer a wide range of subjects and media in small friendly groups. Highly recommended in all respects.
