My name is Ramon L Santiago. I was wounded during a combat operation where I received shell fragments in my arm, leg and back. As a result, I have back muscle impairment, paralysis of the external popliteal nerve in my right leg and paralysis of my external ulnar nerve in my right arm. I also have PTSD Due to my extensive injuries, I am now classified as 100% disable. Since I am at a 100 % disability level, I believed that I would l be receiving a top notch health service through the Veteran's Administration, but unfortunately I was wrong. Before I was first able to see a pain doctor, I was told that I needed to wait four to six months for an appointment then an additional two to three months to actually see a doctor. Up until that time I had to use any kind of pain drug including illegal drugs to control my pain and ironically the doctor could also not take care of my pain. They were reluctant of prescribe pain medication. I know that a lot of people abuse pain pills, but my situation requires either injections or pain pills because I went through a number of surgeries and in the last surgery the doctor told that no more surgery can be applied to my ulnar nerve and the popliteal nerve. The reason is that both nerves were so thin that there is no area left to repair them anymore and therefore I will be living the rest of my life taking pain pills. I was going insane. I was taking any kind of pain medication including illegal to alleviate my pain. One day, I talked to one of my co-workers who had also been wounded in Vietnam and he recommend that I go to see Doctor Dave's. I made an appointment with Dr. Dave's and on my first visit and I was completely blown away by how helpful and kind he was and how fast he got on top of my problems that included pain from combat wounds, high blood pressure and cholesterol. A lot of doctors don't realize how important this is if you are looking for a doctor whose medical knowledge is encyclopedic, treats the whole person, and takes the time to be caring even while maintaining a very efficient office. I was also impressed in how fast he was getting back to me, which is another important trait to find in a doctor when you are a patient in need. Doctor Dave's maintains a very efficient office and his staff are very professional. His office is brand new, clean, and they run on time. Doctor Dave's consistently answers all my questions before and after making my appointment. He provides a safe, understanding, sympathetic, private practice. For those people in the local area looking for an internal medicine doctor, you should consider visiting Dr. Dave's. He is a great doctor who is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. His staff is courteous and I like his philosophy of treating any patient no matter the race, religion or sex. Dr. Dave's is always helpful and he is always available. He has personalized service and goes out of his way to "problem solve" using all of his contacts and knowledge to offer multiple solutions. I would highly recommend Dr. Dave's to anyone! Living with chronic pain is not easy. Few time I was thinking on taking my life until I met Dr. Dave's. He taking care of my illness and now my life is worth living. So If you have found any derogatory comments on the web about him I recognized that not all of us have the same mentality; however, you should pay Dr. Dave's a visit before you make a decision.

I have never seen a more disorganized medical practice where the importance appears to be on the…read more"team" trying to get its act together. I am on a schedule II DEA medication and have been for more than 30 years. With the exception of a periood of a reported "shortage" during COVID, I have never had an issue with getting a refill. At JenCare, they tell you to call 72 hours in advance. I do. Sometimes the physician gets the message. Sometimes, he doesn't. And these people respond with, "Well, there's nothing I can do on this end," or "We had a staffing issue last (pick a day of the week). I still work for a living -- as a Realtor. I love my work but it neccesitates an organized brain, for which medication helps. That's one issue. The other major one is the absurd length of time one waits to see the doctor. You have an appointment at 9:50 a.m. You arrive on time only to note a room full of waiting patients. You ask the front desk, "Do you know how long the wait time is for Dr. XYZ?" You either get the 'deer in the headlight' look or, "I'm not sure." You ask, "Well, can you find out for me?" Sometimes, you get lucky and someone checks. Other times, you walk out. Why? Even if I didn't have some place to be at 1 p.m., no one should have to wait close to three hours to see a doctor. Not in a primary care setting. Once, I waited at Patient First for nearly that long. About a week later, I received an "apology" letter. So did everyone else that day. And then...and then...there's the issue of communications. There is nothing online. No patient portal, no meaningful way to communicate with your primary care provider as the office folks will eventually get a message to your doc but it's often garbled and not at all what you said. No access to online records, which means slow, if any, communications at all with your specialists. JenCare was recommended by a friend. The friend has moved on to another care provider, and I will be doing the same. In summary, if you don't mind your meds being ridiculously late, you have all day to see the doctor and don't mind waiting in a big open room full of people doing the same, and you are patient with what appears to be either poorly educated and trained staff persons -- some who butcher the King's English with apparent glee -- you'll do okay here. On the other hand, if you're used to some modicum of efficiency and decorum befitting a MD's office, DO NOT GO HERE.

EDIT: December 2025…read more Dr. Mishel is great. I wish I could say the same for the office staff. Every time I arrive for my appointment, I know there will be some hassle, like a form they said they sent that I didn't get (I always check the portal before going to be sure because I HATE filling out forms on my tiny iPhone screen), or like today -- I traveled an hour round trip, to wait for an hour for my appointment, only to be told that I was never checked in because "they forgot." Great. Two hours out of my life wasted, and I just needed a refill for my prescription. The prescription works great! Do you want to know when it doesn't work? When I run out. So frustrating! End rant/ ****************************************************** Great experience from start to finish. Dr. Mischel is fantastic! He really listened and I appreciate his insight.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I initially reached out to schedule an appointment to talk with…read moresomeone last year because I was having some depression and anxiety issues. My first appointment was scheduled several weeks after my initial call, which was concerning to me; however, I waited it out. I arrived at that appointment only to be told that the appointment had been cancelled because it had been scheduled with a pediatric physician in error. I received no phone call prior to showing up and while I was there, they scheduled me for another appointment 2 weeks later. And of course I'm getting more and more annoyed at this point because the lady who claimed to be the supervisor kept insisting that I was called and informed of the cancellation, which I was not. She later came back and apologized and said that the original appointment was made in error by a new employee, so she scheduled a new appointment for me. Disappointed and upset, I agree to the new appointment and show up on the new date and time to check in. After checking in and about 5 minutes into my conversation with the doctor (psychologist), he states that I needed to talk with the psychiatrist because he couldn't prescribe any medication. He then tells me I would need to schedule an appointment and takes me back up front to the receptionist. They then schedule me another appointment for later that week. So at this point, almost a month has gone by since my initial call and I still hadn't seen anyone concerning my issues. At the appointment later that week, I am finally seen by the psychiatrist, and apparently, that first appointment was just to get my background information. I had to make a second appointment to actually discuss my issues and receive medical treatment; however, the prescription the "psychiatrist" prescribed could not be filled because he wrote the wrong dosage amount on it. Due to all of the incompetence with this office, I never went back to have the prescription adjusted or even get the prescription filled. This was December of 2023. Fast forward to August 2024, I start receiving calls from a bill collector on behalf of Virginia South Psychiatric in Hopewell. I thought it was a scam since I'm a retired veteran and usually have no bill; however, because these calls kept increasing, I learned that I had a $36 co-pay for each of my appointments that had gone into collections. I was never made aware of any bill or balance owed, and even when I called the VA South Hopewell office to verify this amount and bill, I was advised they had no record of it. Luckily, the bill collector had given me a reference number so VA South could pull it up; but it took me reaching out to the VA South Midlothian office to actually verify the legitimacy of the bill which ended up being my co-pay amount which should have been billed after each appointment. I don't understand how this office is even in business. I hate that my insurance and I were billed for such incompetence; and I'm not even sure what I was billed for because they were useless. I am definitely following up with my insurance provider on this. I will never use the services of Virginia South Psychiatric again and definitely urge others to look elsewhere before going here.
