My favorite thing about this little shop is its history; being of humble beginnings, and where many years of hard work and creativity has paid off. The Breakell's started their business in the basement of their home only to outgrow various spaces throughout the years. At their current location, there is a very cool workshop located near the retail store where you can watch the artists venerate in their extraordinary and ancient craft. All of the items are created on-site, and designs tend to give nod to nostalgic Rhode Island traditions. Where else are you going to find handcrafted, high quality jewelery molded into shapes like the Rhode Island Red rooster, horseshoe crabs and jellyfish? They also sell special collections for weddings, graduations, birthdays and so on. Each year they create a signature snowflake pattern, and the locals rush to the store once it's released to see it while checking off their holiday lists. The design is fashioned into earrings, necklaces and pins, and my friends never seem to grow tired of receiving complements from the assembly each year. The silver necklaces are quite beautiful and for $45.00, it's a pretty special gift. The Breakells once created an exquisite sterling silver broccoli pin after the Bushs publicly announced their disdain for the vegetable, and ordered it to be removed from the White House menu. The pin was sent to First Lady, Barbara Bush and of course, later to the Clintons and Gores who smirkingly announced that they were, in fact, proud fans of the undistinguished veggie. For $95.00, it's worth every penny, and the ideal present for the dietitian, chef, foodie or ha! politician in your life.
