Kevin Duris is a fantastic artisan and an honest broker. I came in with a damaged family diamond and a basic engagement ring design in my head. Kevin helped me wade through the particulars of the ring design and suggested to have the diamond recut. I was nervous about losing size, but let me tell you the shine and fire from the recut diamond far exceeds what I imagined and is far superior to the original stone I brought in. It increased in value as well. I thought having everything custom done would make it more expensive but by going to Kevin and taking out the middle man, the prices were fantastic. My girlfriend and I were recently blessed to receive an heirloom ring from her family so we can get engaged. Kevin set the diamond in a new setting to fit my girlfriend's hand, and put a birthstone in the original setting (which we'll give back to her family). It wasn't a lucrative commission for Kevin, but his attention to the project was really impressive. Among other things, he made the setting stronger than usual to account for the fact that my girlfriend is active and works with her hands a lot. And he polished the diamond to a beautiful sparkle, which probably hadnt been cleaned since her gradnmother got engaged in 1947. We were looking all over the Connecticut shoreline for a jeweler working in silver. A birthday present, for me, and I knew the kind of necklace I wanted. It was pretty hit and miss, though. I didn't want a typical mall-style place. We found a few places that sold some handmade pieces, but no-one that would offer a store filled with options... My husband suggested driving to Newport-- why not? So I researched stores there. There were two or three decent-looking options, but Duris was the one that kept coming up with a solid web presence. We went-- Duris is amazing. They make their pieces right there. You can see the workplace and tools. The front cases offered beautiful things at reasonable prices. I found two handmade, big-loop chain necklaces in the style I had wanted. I got what I wanted for $100 less than the closest one I'd found at a commercial store. It was great to buy from the maker...
