Dunkin Donuts, the Dairy Queen of donut shops, has now come to the Bay Area. Well, yip yip yahoo. My coworker was happy about that. She's seen DD before, and says that usually they're pretty grimy shops in slightly bad areas. This one looks far better, so she wanted to go to this one. The location could be far better. I went up and down California looking for DD one early morning, didn't find it. Then I went back to their Yelp listing, found that they're actually on Newell. Okay. Then I went to find it today, and DD is in that little shopping center on the other side of the canal, one big parking garage away from Broadway Plaza. If you're walking there from the main drag, it feels like quite a walk, even though it isn't. At least parking is good, both in the lot and on the street if needed. It is indeed clean inside. Walnut Creek wouldn't have it any other way. They have far more than donuts and pastries, and I had to look quite a bit to find the cinnamon roll I craved. It's actually called a coffee roll. $1.74 later, out I went. It's actually pretty small. Cinnamon rolls can be quite hefty indeed, and this one's the size of a regular donut. Not a lot of cinnamon, either. It tasted like a donut; actually, it tasted like a good, sweet, tasty donut. It's an inviting place to sit and eat with your friend for a while if you wish. Yeah, Dunkin Donuts is good. Easily preferable to Krispy Kreme. Other donut shops in this area come out better, I agree with Christine L that DD is overrated, but it stands well with the others. I abhorred my experience today and on NATIONAL DONUT DAY so sad:( my donut was not free with a drink like promised and advertised in THE STORE. My friend also ended up paying $9 for a drink and donut because the lady working the register failed to hand her the proper change making the overall experience horrendous. Second visit. This time they had something they didn't have at my first visit: Donuts. I got to try Boston creme and a jelly donut. The first time they didn't have them. Want to know the reason they didn't have those donuts? It's because they didn't have them. What. East Coast product without the East Coast Hustle. The donuts are permanently BEHIND the employees, which allows for even clumsier selection. The reason for the line is half the donuts and half the zombie apocalypse that DD staffed this store with. Super lethargic line growers. 4 people were manning my cup of coffee while an extra guy between the cashiers and the coffee crew mimed a deadlift, and then an overhead press. This to the amazement of a starry eyed girl who was also doing nothing to move the line. When it comes to donuts,this place is definitely on the top of my list. I have other nearby donut shops but Dunkin Donuts is worth the 25mins drive. I love the munchkins over the regular donut holes. I heard how good the drinks are here, the first time I went to this location I got a regular iced coffee and did not like it. Today,I decided to give it another shot and got a mocha flavor and I still didn't like the taste of it. The reason I gave this place a four star. But for sure hands down the best donuts. read more

Ugh. Before moving to the Disneyland that is the SF Bay Area I lived in New England. Official capitol of Dunkin' Donuts. Dunkin'. The double Ds. 'unkin'. The Mecca. I was SO EXCITED to hear that DD was coming to the Bay Area! Well I finally got up to Walnut Creek to try the first one and... ugh. This is NOT the same Dunkin Donuts that I'm used to in Boston. Or even Atlanta. To east coasters Dunkin is known for: 1: fast service. 2:solid coffee 3: solid donuts. In that order. If any one of those is missing it fails as a Dunkin. In my first experience here this dunkin misses #1 HARD. Most Boston area Dunkins you have a coffee shoved into your hand before your order has even finished coming out of your lips. I'm serious. Here? I've had much shorter waits at the most legit hipster coffee shops in SF for a hand-crafted, single-origin, pour-over, denim-apron, groomed-beard, seriously-cared-for coffee to be created while I wait. This Dunkin made us wait at least 15 minutes and then didn't even get the order right! They've been open for weeks now, they should have this down. Maybe it was a new team but still. They gotta work on this to uphold the Drunkin name. At least #2 and #3 were on par. The coffee was about what was to be expected. The donuts though. If anything makes up for the slow and inaccurate service it's the donuts. They were so soft, fresh, and delicious. Potentially even better than I've had from most DDs on the East Coast. This was all from my first and so far only experience here. I'll be coming back for sure and hoping they up their service game. I want DD to succeed in the Bay Area. read more

I love this little branch in WC. Everyone is really nice (I always go late in the afternoon) and cordial but if they seem a bit confused, it's ok. I think most of them are high school kids. The guy manager in the afternoons (he's also really young) is super polite and very professional. Now, I have seen some rude customers come in and to you: please keep your rude ass attitude at home. The young adults/kids working there always seem to keep their cool with the Karens; kudos to them! they deserve more tips. Also, love their coffees, cold drinks and donuts. read more

I was so excited to get a DD in the bay area, but after many trips, and many times waiting in line, I can honestly say this location SUCKS. It is the worst DD i have ever experienced, service wise. The line is long bc they have not trained their casheirs and its incredibly slow to order. Every time I need to repeat my order 3 to 5 times as they enter, erase, enter, erase, etc. And after that they still every time have somehow gotten my order wrong. Every. Single. Time. Today for the THIRD time I ordered am everything bagel breakfast sandwich, and it was rung up correctly, yet when i got home and unwrapped it, PLAIN bagel. I am from New York and this is a big f-ing deal. Plain bagels are gross. You can not just decide to change my order and think any flavor is ok. Again this has happened 3 times at this location. If you were out, you go inform the customer and ask what they want instead, you do NOT just decide to put something else in the bag. See photo. Other issues have been multiple mistakes ordering a hot coffee then receiving an iced one, and being told "oh sorry, most people just order iced"...really??? That has also happened on more than one occasion. In most cases the order is put in to the till correctly and the food/ coffee preparers have been the ones to mess it up and not check. While I try to steer clear of donuts, not to successfully, I do come here for that special treat. I really liked when they were selling munchkins 10 for $ 1.99 but we can't have everything. I am sure it all comes down from corporate. I love the double chocolate donut the most !!!! Pretty good coffee as well . The one thing I have to mention is how clean the super friendly crew keeps the store . It is immaculate!!!!! That is so hard to do serving food and drink and with such heavy customturnover. Bathrooms are stocked and clean, tables and chairs wiped down, garbage emptied and condiment bar stocked . Due to the unacceptable customer service, I have to update my review to 1 star (if I could change it to 0 stars, I would!). They got my order wrong 4 times! I even called the customer service, but they couldn't care less! I don't understand why is it so hard for this store to get a very simple order right?! And why so rude?! Definitely a wee bit overrated. I busted my Dunkin Dont's cherry years back, at a location in Las Vegas. The donuts were absolutely spectacular there and they seemed to have had a better donut selection as well. This DD.....fails in comparison. I can't believe I actually stood in line for this joint, but I promised my hubby I would pick him up some donuts. The actual shop is a fairly decent size and much larger inside then you would expect. Also extremely nice, hence the fact it is new. I ordered a couple of their vanilla frosted donuts, one glazed, one vanilla with sprinkles and a Bavarian cream donut. I have to say, I am not one much for sweets any more these days, and can't even recall the last time I actually had a donut, but I figured I would at least try a sliver of a few. So after having just a few tiny slivers of the vanilla frosted donut, glazed and bavarian cream, here is my feedback : Vanilla frosted donut; yuck, something about the vanilla frosting just tasted off - definitely not worth the calories. Glazed: glazed donuts are usually my favorite type of donut if I do choose to have one - this one, mediocre at best- another one not worth the calories. Now the Bavarian cream donut - this one was actually quite good; had half of it and I can say it was actually worth the cals. Thankfully my hubby enjoyed most of them. I come here from time to time, I get the frozen blended mocha and the doughnuts. Most of the time the blended coffee is really good. I came here yesterday and got the frozen mocha and a couple of doughnuts. I got sour cream glaze and an original glazed. I liked the original glaze doughnut because it was light and fluffy. The sour cream was interesting it tasted like lemon. I was expecting the doughnut to be the same color as the outside. I liked the original glaze better. The mocha blended coffee was so good! Haven't been to Dunkin since the 80's. That long ago? LOL. I don't remember the donuts tasting this great. I've waited 45 minutes for 3 donuts and an iced coffee. Okay, it happens, but I came about two hours before closing just for the manager to come out and let the customers know that they were about to run out of donuts. It was appreciated that he let us know, but I'm surprised that they didn't bother trying to make more in the middle of the day since the demand was so high. Fast forward a few months and I tried to go again and was successful in picking up a few donuts and donut holes. Boy was I disappointed when I bit into a dry, cardboard like donut. Excited when this store first opened, but was disappointed for waiting so long and my favorite donuts ran out! Waited for over 1 1/2 Hr, and they ran out of blueberry cobbler croissant and Boston creme donuts. I came again about a month after my work hours and again no blueberry cobbler croissant and Boston crème donuts. Although I wasn't happy for waiting so long, I still love their quality and choices of donuts and breakfast sandwiches. The texture and taste of their donuts are delicious and not as super sweet as Krispy Kreme. Love their egg and cheese and chicken salad sandwiches! Don't forget to try their hot beverages like Espresso, hot tea, Latte, coffee and hot chocolate. Can't have donuts without their beverages. Had no problems with customer service. Helpful with friendly staff. There are parking, but when it was super busy, ended up parking outside the street. Although it's further away from home, I would still come here for their donuts since it's the only closest Dunkin' Donuts in the Bay Area. read more

Immediately there was a pounding on the door and I was instructed to exit the restroom immediately. The restroom was clean and in working condition. I was denied the use of it FOR WHAT REASON?? It's so funny how so many reviewers here complained about the wait as if this DD is no big deal and is located everywhere... NOT This is the first DD here in the bay, what are you expecting? Of course being recently opened, there will be lines out the door. The employees aren't slow, the people picking 2 dozen individual donuts are the problem. Now to the review. Eww. I couldn't even eat my doughnut it was so dense it was almost hard. Maybe that's just how they are though. I got a blended coffee and it tasted like a choc shake. Not even a hint of coffee... A visit full of cliches. First there was the police car that raced past us into the parking lot (OK, maybe he wasn't getting donuts), then there was the silly long line to get in, and finally the ridiculous news anchor. More on him in a moment. Turning up at around 7am, there was a shortish line around the corner, and it took about 25 minutes to get in. We also got some freebies and offers of samples (girl was a bit clueless about something containing diary). I'm pretty familiar with Dunkin already from some visits to the East Coast, so I knew the vegan options (PETA website has by far the best list, there's zero indication in the store - for California, that's a fail). The manager came out and spotted our 3 month old, and we scored my favorite, the hash browns, although they need ketchup. Inside, I tried for a poppyseed bagel, but were all out. Instead I got a "toasted" bagel that was really only slightly warmed. I had to toast it again at home! I decided to skip on the coffee, I had better at home, and so few places do it how I like (in fairness, they do have vegan drink options, not sure if they charge vegan tax for almond milk). And also, the news anchor. It was the local KTVU guy, Alex something. Complete with ridiculous slicked back hair, cheesy smile and stupid punchlines. He could have been right there with Will Ferrell in Anchorman. His spot was done right when we were there, so if you watch the clip, yours truly appears no less than three times! Finally, there was some lip service in the piece about more healthy options in California at Dunkin. But that's all it is. There's very little healthy here, vegan or otherwise. Lots of carbs and sugar, make no mistake. I won't be visiting this location again in a hurry (Oakland has far better choices), but no doubt I'll visit a few in Pittsburgh next week. read more

So I finally got to check this place out. The day I came, I opened up my app to see if I could do online ordering, they actually updated it that day. I bypassed the line, however not all donuts are offered on the app compared to what they have in-store. Ok so here it is -- donuts are BETTER than Krispy Kreme, in my opinion. BUT, the original glazed KK is better than the DD. DD has a mom and pop feel and taste to it, but its not quite there. The Jelly filled donut is a disappointment, Boston creme is on point, the original old fashioned is dry (chocolate old fashioned is better). I would come back because donuts is life. read more

Like many native Californians I have heard of this chain for many years and wondered if there was anything particularly special about it. East Coast friends often said that "the donuts are ok, but the coffee was great". Finally I got to check it out. The coffee was not particularly good, nor was it terrible. They asked if I wanted cream and sugar and I said yes, assuming that they would leave room for me to doctor it up. Nope, they tossed in some cream and sugar for me. A time saver for sure if that's what you happen to like, but I found the mixture too sweet.. I would not have it again if I could find a nearby Peet's or make some at home to-go. The donuts were a mixed experience for me. I was able to grab a bite or two from 6 different selections on my visit and I found that while the cake donuts were excellent the raised donuts were flat, lacked volume and seemed on the verge of stale. This may just be a style difference, but I feel like most of the mom and pop donut stores around me tend to have very light and fluffy raised donuts. The sour cream cake was excellent, I would highly recommend that item if you happen to be in the neighborhood. The store was very clean with an attractive and seemingly very functional interior. Awesome grand opening for the new Dunkin Donuts in Walnut Creek. The old east coast staple is finally here and they're doing a great job. The staff were handing out samples in line and walking around to chat with us. They had things ready at the counter as well to help expedite orders. This non-coffee drinking gal is definitely not part of the target audience DD is trying to reach, however I did come in the first few weeks it opened. Access to the parking can be difficult if you are coming from west of Broadway. You will have to flip a U-turn and I can't recall if it legal at the first driveway. Arrived in tow of my husband and family, when there was still a line out the door and stood in the heat. Husband and BIL ordered coffees and a dozen donuts. Husband loved the coffee and donuts. Boston Creme and powdered custard is one of my faves. Went here on a Friday afternoon and they hype is still on. Waited for about 45 minutes. People were getting antsy and hot ... lol! Ordered Big and Toasty (egg, bacon and cheese), grilled cheese and a dozen of donuts. Everything was good. Customer service wasn't all that great, maybe cause the workers were tired of the long lines. But I met the manager (I forgot her name), she was a sweet lady and made sure everything was running smoothly. The only thing I would recommend to Dunkin staff is maybe to offer customers waiting in line some ice water while they wait, hmm and maybe even some donut holes lol. There was only 2 cashiers working and they definitely need more especially with the long lines. We will definitely go back for some Boston Creme! read more

I've been waiting to try Dunkin until the crowds died down. Randomly was in the area, no line and dropped in. I had the croissant donut and the bavarian cream donut. Yes, yesterday I ate two donuts. They were really good. The staff were really friendly and could tell I was having a hard time choosing. They suggested the croissant donut and got one for me from the back! Also, the bavarian cream is one of their best sellers. Next time I'll try a sour cream one as that was recommended also. The donuts were good. I rarely eat donuts so one could argue any donut would taste like pillowy bites from heaven. So good that I ate both of them :o! I took one star off because they aren't as soft as say, Krispy Kreme. Now that the hype has somewhat died down, we've been able to get in and grab some donuts! Donuts are one of my go-to breakfasts, and the wife is addicted to donuts... I thought the hype would leave me let down after trying this place, but i can't lie... Dunkin Donuts were surprisingly good. They're more of a cake-y consistency, and offer quite a bit of options. My best are the chocolate crueler and the vanilla glazed, but there's not a lot i wouldn't try here! The also have a good variety of breakfast foods, but they're only okay. The donuts are simply amazing. They stay fresh and fluffy even after a day. Donuts from other places turn hard and crusty after a few hours. The thing that annoys me is that they stash their donuts behind the cashier, meaning, you won't know what you want until you reach the counter. It would be a smart idea if they stored their donuts in the front like Krispy Kreme. This will make the lines a lot shorter. Tip: Make sure you speak loudly and clearly or else they will ask you to repeat your order multiple times. Instead of telling them all the donuts you want all at once, say it one at a time or else they will ask you to repeat your order over and over again. The first time I came here, I ordered an Iced Macchiato. Since I didn't state a specific flavor, my drink came out unsweetened. A week later, I ordered an Iced Latte with hazelnut flavor. That too, came out unsweetened. If you want it sweetened, you have to say hazelnut swirl etc. read more

I'm from Philadelphia and I've lived in the Bay Area for 25 years. I grew up eating Dunkin Doughnuts and I love them. But I don't love the glazed doughnuts at this Dunkin Doughnuts. The last two times I've gotten doughnuts here mid morning and early afternoon, they didn't taste fresh and I didn't like them. Went there yesterday afternoon to try the Donut Fries. Was very excited. Mood was instantly brought down due to the cashier's attitude. Not only that, but her name tag said Shift Leader. Got to the counter and no greeting. Asked her how she was doing and she just stared at me. Didn't offer to help. Just stood there quietly. Completely disregarding customers is not ok. If she want the Shift Leader, if go a little easier on her. Bad example from someone of that position. Would've been a 2 star review, if i didn't like the Donut Fries. After getting my fix everyday when I went to the East Coast I was glad that one of their first Bay Area locations is only a 30 min drive for me. I was pleasantly surprised when coming here! Usually no lines when I come and it's a clean place. I get my iced coffee and donut holes really quickly. I enjoy that they have a box with samples where you pick up your coffee. So if you're debating about a flavor just go to the end to see if they have any to try. They say unlimited so you can get your fix without even buying any. Coffee still tastes as good for me so no complaints here. read more
