When the weather is not a Floridan oven (i.e. July & August), the on-site hot shop is open for public demonstrations where visitors and collectors can witness the birth of some of the world's finest glass creations. Duncan and his artisans' works can be found throughout the gallery or on display in the collections of elite cruise ships, the St. Petersburg/Clearwater airport, and those of other discerning collectors worldwide. No entrance fee, so it's worth a stop to meet Duncan and his wife Irene, and maybe even a visiting artist. We originally planned to go to the Imagine Museum, but it closed early for a private event. Thank goodness! It worked out so perfectly, as we stumbled upon the Duncan McClellan Gallery instead. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in the door. There's no admission, but I strongly recommend making a donation, as it is well worth it for the experience. The glass art was stunning. My husband and I didn't go there intending to purchase anything, but we are now considering it after seeing the gorgeous selection (some pieces are more affordable than others). We toured the different rooms (don't forget to look up!) and looked around the covered areas of the sculpture garden, since it was a rainy day--we definitely want to return when the weather is nicer. They kindly offered to give us a blown glass demo, but we were short on time so we passed, but would for sure check out that experience next time. Absolutely stop here when you're in the Warehouse district of St. Pete. Even better, after you can grab a beer at Bayboro Brewing next door! read more

This is so much more than a gallery. In addition to the extensive diverse and museum quality glass pieces, we got to see two artists at work in the hot shop! They graciously shared information about their creative processes and glass blowing in general. The garden is lush and seeing the outdoor pieces in the sunlight was so beautiful! There are galleries and there are galleries. Then there's Duncan McClellan Glass Gallery. Where do I begin? Do you want to look at amazing, creative works of glass art? Look no farther. You are warmly greeted by the owner or his sunny wife, who offer to take you on a tour of the premises, or let you walk around on your own, stopping at every section, every nook, every corner, as it catches your fancy. The intricate pieces of art, the dazzling colors, the simplicity of some pieces, the complexity of others, will blow your mind. For a deeper appreciation of how art like this was born, go to the Hot Shop and watch a demonstration of glass being blown, shaped, and colored; listen in wonder as the artists explain the various processes that lead to the finished product. They have regular staff artists demonstrating this, but often there will be guest artists from all over the world taking over for two or three or five days. Or maybe you just want to relax in the closest thing to Paradise on Earth? There are many sofas in the outdoor section, where you can sit and reflect on the many creations the artists have shared for your sensory pleasure. If you can pull yourself out of this reverie, the Sculpture Garden awaits you. It is a garden planted by Duncan McClellan himself. About 15 years ago, on this spot there was nothing but an old warehouse and a sandy lot that God didn't know what to do with. Duncan, with his own two hands and a vision, transformed the lot into a small, thick forest of many fruit trees and bushes, and planted sculptures throughout, as well as some glass owls and other birds whose eyes seem to follow you as you stroll their garden. It is all thick and natural, not at all like a manicured lawn with plants planted according to a blueprint. As if all that weren't enough, there are three guard cats that roam the gardens and keep a sharp eye out for anything amiss. They welcome gentle head scratches, quiet whispers of encouragement, and lots of love. read more

We visited St. Petersberg last week for the first time. We came because we wanted to see the Dali Museum and heard there was a good glass museum. My oh my were we surprised at the extent and depth of the art community. As glass collectors finding three world class venues, Chilully, Imagine and the Duncan Mcclellan Gallery was a joy. It was a pleasure to meet the master glass blower, Duncan, at his spectacular gallery. It features an array of stunning glasswork, a gorgeous garden with glass hidden throughout the flora and fauna, and friendly and helpful staff. It's also free to visit all the eye candy. They do take donations in a big jar by the door. This couple gladly contributed. We loved our visit and plan to return again and again. In strolling the internet before leaving I noticed the Duncan McClellan Gallery. They have created an oasis in this commercial area featuring glass art and a wonderful garden environment. It's on par with the imagine museum for seeing wonderful glass art and the garden and workshop are great. Everyone there was informative and welcoming. My son and i enjoyed the visit and will certainly stop buy again. Amazingly, in this day and age there is no charge for the visit. read more

If you are in or headed to SW Florida, don't miss this opportunity to see incredible glass works of art. It is very impressive when the owners/artists greet you when you come in the door. But that's when you are "blown away" lol, by the glass art that is in front of you. The amount of glass works from different artists will leave your jaw dropped. Mostly, McClellan's work etching glass is extraordinary. You must go, the entire grounds and glass shop can't be missed. They also support a mission call DMG School Project which enables young folks to learn about glass blowing, even a mobile studio. My dad and I were looking for something different and unique to check out in St Petersburg and I'm glad we chanced upon DM. We went to watch glass blowing in action and since we were the only ones sitting on the little set of viewing bleachers, one of the artisans came up to us and invited us over for a much more close up view. The glass artist was so talented and so gracious to explain the process to us while he was working. Just a wonderful fellow along with everyone there. The glass art was absolutely superb and just so awesome! We were in awe of all of the exquisite pieces of glass art on display there. This is a both an artist collective and gallery founded and run by Duncan McClellan. He is a very talented, artist, and curator. Everything here is of museum quality. He is also a great raconteur. There is a small sculpture garden, friendly cats, and live glassblowing demonstration. I have been to six museums in St Pete's, and this is the high point. We went yesterday for an elementary school art club field trip and had a wonderful time. Our day started with a gallery tour by Duncan. He told us about the artists in the exhibits this month, talked about different pieces, and explained his techniques to our crowd. There was even an exhibiting artist there who was able to teach us about her style and art. After the gallery tour, we went to see a glass blowing demo in the hot shop. They definitely had all of the kids and parents enthralled. Very cool to see and highly recommended. Lastly, the kids got to sand blow the glass plates they prepared with their art club. It was neat to see their art evolve and to see the looks on their faces. I would highly recommend a visit to Duncan's studio and hot shop. All of the art was beautiful and the staff was phenomenal. Art rotates monthly, so we will definitely be back. read more

This is the perfect (locally owned and operated) gallery for for anyone who admires or collects glass art. The primary focus is obviously Duncan McClellan's work, which is often ornately patterned inside and out; his unique vessels seem to be inspired by the organic shapes in nature as well as the athletic images one would see on Ancient Greek vases. The gallery also features other international and local artists such as Paul Eppling, who has created collaborative pieces with McClellan; the upper gallery walls are covered with his enormous metal and glass insects, which are amazing. The hot shop sometimes has live demonstrations, and the gallery itself is one of the best stops on the monthly local art walk. During these events, guest artists will sometimes provide brief lectures on their work, and refreshments are available. We plan to visit again soon. read more

She was at the very least lovely. I have been to many art glass gallery's and this is among the most beautiful. If you have love of art glass, creativity, any art medium and or cats (they feed the neighborhood Farrell beauties) this is a place worth trying to find. Finding it is part of the fun.
