Overall, I had a very decent experience.... This time. The last time I came, the food was much worse and so was the service. I would have given this place four stars if it was consistent. I think the best part about the dumplings is the fact that they're clearly homemade (not frozen). I even saw them wrapping dumplings as we were eating. I like the chewy, thick dumpling wrapper. It's doughy. We tried the spicy pork and the pork and shrimp. Both were good. I preferred the pork and shrimp but the other person in my party liked the spicy pork better. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to order the dumplings by the dozen. You can do half and half, but that's it. I would have liked to try more varieties, but I don't want to order dozens and dozens of dumplings to be able to do so. We really liked the peanut butter pork dumpling appetiser. Finding this spot in Hillsboro Village was such a treat, its located inside an old house, and feels very warm and cozy. The menu has plenty of options, with various fillings for dumplings, and so many fruit and milk tea options. The service was super friendly and quick. And I had such a great visit. I checked out the dumpling house on a Sunday afternoon based on a suggestion from Yelp. The restaurant is located on belcourt Street, which generally has street parking, or if not, there is a free parking garage next door to the restaurant. The restaurant itself was clean and welcoming. The service was okay, I wouldn't say it was that friendly, but friendly enough. I will say I did enjoy the dumplings. They were freshly made and flavorful. I don't feel like it was enough to be a full meal, though. We ordered several side items to try to make it a meal. The tofu was unseasoned and pretty uneventful, without the peanut sauce the menu said. The cucumbers were bland and odd combinations of flavors, not pickled as the menu said. The wonton soup was mixed - the wontons were good, but the broth was basic water and chives. Overall, if u want a small bite dumplings meal, I would come here. But not a full lunch. read more

I agree with a past commenter that my experience was mixed. I've gone here twice, and the first time was better than the second. On the first try, we had steamed chicken curry dumplings, steamed spicy pork dumplings, and a cookies n' cream boba tea. The dumplings were quite full and clearly very fresh, with tasty fillings and dumpling skins, and the outdoor seating was great. At the same time, it was very pricey for dumplings and the boba tea wasn't the best. It was made by hand, which I definitely appreciate, but it didn't have much boba (which was an extra charge) and simply tasted like milk tea, without much in the way of cookie/cream flavoring. It was also around $1.50 pricier than other milk tea/boba tea places in Nashville. Nevertheless, we thought we would try Dumpling House again since there are so few good restaurants in Hillsboro for locals. On the second try, we tried to save some money and skip the tea, since we were only going in for a quick lunch. They had no free tap water available, so we had to pay $3 for bottled water, which feels cheap and unwelcoming. We ordered steamed chicken curry dumplings again (they were our favorite last time) and steamed pork & cabbage dumplings. This time, our dumplings were smaller with less filling, while the chicken curry was less flavorful (still tasty, though) and the pork & cabbage had almost no cabbage to speak of. The flavor was still quite good but we left hungry. Then, after our dinner, we found out they had no recycling for the plastic bottles, and one of the workers indicated that the only place to put them was in the garbage can, which is really a shame. Altogether, after tip, we paid almost $37 for a less-than-great, small meal. To be brutally honest, it feels like another too-expensive Hillsboro restaurant that caters to wealthier clientele and tourists, but doesn't care too much about fostering an experience for returning locals. Because the food was good, we might still return if we have guests staying with us, as there are simply not many options nearby anymore. Pros: - Food is tasty - Teas & dumpling skins are made fresh - Decor is cute & outdoor seating is nice - Food came out quickly Cons: - Very high prices - Small portions, with varying sizes of dumpling depending on the day/dumpling - The flavor of the dumplings fluctuates - The pricing is bewildering - for example, why are you charged an extra $2 for added cabbage or onions, the cheapest vegetables on the planet, in the first place? We ordered the pork chive pan fried dumplings, the steamed pork/cabbage dumplings, and the peanut butter noodles. The dumplings all had a really odd filling flavor- like the meat wasn't good quality or not enough flavors were used. Certainly not authentic, and the frozen dumplings at K&S taste better. The quantity was good for the price which constitutes one of the stars of the review. The fried dumplings were better because the chives and fried crust helped overpower the weird meat flavor. The noodles were undercooked and the sauce tasted like a sauce pack with lots of additives. To top it all off, we all got indigestion. I feel like I'm on a rampage with this review, but I'm just reporting the facts of our visit. They don't have water cups, which is fine but of course we were not prepared with our own bottles. The tables outside were all dirty and sticky and we had to wipe it ourselves. The workers were nice and the indoor tables are clean, so there's some positives. For the restaurants like this that continue to pop up around Nashville, I really hope in the future the focus will be on mastering the basics of a dish and ensure the flavor is good before creatjng trendy fusion flavors or worrying about branding/ambiance. read more

I just tried their tea but it was great! I had the strawberry peach tea with boba jelly and it was the right amount of sweetness and had fresh strawberries. It is great that you can customize the amount of ice and sugar in the drink. I left full and happy :) They only do bottled water which is a bummer, but it led me to try one of their teas. I tried the cookies and cream milk tea. Kind of a misleading name, because when you hear 'cookies and cream,' most people think Oreo--but it's actually Biscoff Cookie! Yum! Either would've been good. The service was pretty fast considering how quickly we got our food. It's pretty minimally decorated in the restaurant, feels very clean. Coconut Coffee Milk Tea was not good. I appreciate the thought in this drink. It has a lot of potential! I'm not sure if this drink has coconut pieces in the powder or whatever they use, but there's this weird, chunky, powdery substance at the end of the drink so honestly it's a 3/10. Maybe try an actual coconut milk and mixing with a shot of espresso or along the lines of that. Ditch the powders! The place has outdoor seating which is nice. Virtually no parking but there is street parking and a lot across the street as well. It's easy to spot so you can't miss it. This place slapped. I really enjoyed my vegetarian dumplings, crushed cucumber, and cold tofu appetizer. It was a lot of food that provided leftovers. The sauces are a must. Mix them ALL.
