Dufrene Building Materials is a solid option for lumber on the westbank besides the big box guys. The prices are comparable and quality to them as well. They offer delivery for big buys at a good rate but if you are only buying a few hundred of items, its better to do it yourself. That process is kinda wonky if you havent done it before, so that is what I going to outline for you so you look like a pro instead of a bumbling dummy like I did. 1. You park in front of the building, not the side past the guard shack 2. When you enter the store, the large service counter to your immediate right is where you pay for everything and where you order lumber. Looks like a will call area since the are sitting down and it seems like you are peering down into someones office space. 3. After you pay, they give you the receipt stapled to a large pink sheet. They will tell you to drive around to pick it up. 4. When you back up, drive to the guard shack, that guy will check the pink sheet, possibly radio the next guy. They will tell you to drive on. Drive in and keep going, even if you see the area where the items you have to pick up are obviously stacked, till you see someone that works there holding a bunch of paper work and a radio. Give him your sheet and he will tell you where to go next. Right back to the pile you passed. 5. Park and wait for him to show up with a fork lift. They will load it for you. But make sure you count that there is enough. 6. When you are fully loaded, you must stop at the guard shack again. That guy will recheck your load against the pink sheet again and tell you that you can go. Thats it :-) If you skip a step or do them out of order like I did (they dont tell you any of this inside even when asked) you will be waiting a long time or made to drive in circles. Not surprised at all to see their 2 star rating. In from California to visit family ( grew up in Marrero) and to do a full demo/ remodel on my childhood home. Visited Dufrenes and they had a very poor selectiion of crown molding and baseboards to begin with and then when I asked them for a sample of the crown to take home to assess this employees said I a firm, rude manner, " No, we can't cut a 16 foot board to do that". So let me get this straight...I'm looking to purchase enough baseboard and crown for a 4000 square foot house but you can't give me a sample? Really? Liberty lumber and Gueydan lumber here I come! I return 6 extra white boards, from the 25 I purchased. After asking them earlier about purchasing and returning the extra boards, they said that was fine, if needed..... Upon my return, they surprisingly charged me a $7 service fee. If they would have told me initially, I could have saved my money going to a Big Box store.... No good. read more

I would not order anything from them. A friend of mine ordered the same exact front door as the one I wanted for $644.00. I got an estimate for the same door originally and the price was the same. When I called to order the door the salesman was no longer there so the guy told me he would prefer to come out and re measure the door, which is understandable. After he measured it he told me the door went up $332.00 , which is understandable due to the estimate being a few months old. I turned around and called to order the doors for my house 7 months later for them to tell me the price of the doors changed again. They told me they quoted me wrong and the doors was double the price. Now originally when I called they told me the price would probably be 20% more because it was 7 months later, which I understood that, due to me waiting so long.I was pretty aggravated when they told me the doors had double and they quoted me wrong the first time. So I guess what they telling me is the last 3 estimates were wrong and they are confused on their pricing or is it because we are having a pandemic and we are trying to make up for lost money. This is bad business. What I don't understand is two salespeople quoted me roughly the same quote, for them to tell me they were wrong read more
