Here comes bias-city…read more Imperial College is a fantastic place to study, the faculty here are top notch, and the number of societies and amount of activities you can get involved with endless. For a university dedicated to science, technology and medicine, students here are surprisingly gifted in the arts (we've got several orchestras and choirs, as well as the main college orchestra which won the competition for the best University Orchestra in 2008) and sports. Located in South Kensington but with campuses around Hammersmith, Paddington, Chelsea and White City there's loads of things to do, and easy access to the rest of London for nights out. And the campuses themselves look great. Our union has vastly improved, and is cheap (of course) which makes up for the house prices in London. And you get to graduate in the Royal Albert Hall. Bonus. But then, like others here, I would say that!

As others have commented, the College of Psychic Studies is not what it used to be twenty or so ago…read moreyears ago. I used to go for readings and even if I did not feel 100% convinced that "the medium" had connected with spirit, I felt they were empathetic and kind, which went a long way to compensate. In later years I felt like I could be talking to someone I'd casually met for the first time in pub or at a bus stop! Another suggested I say to myself, "I just don't care anymore", advice I have never been able to make sense of. The fees for a sitting have gone up exorbitantly, which might be justifiable if one felt confident of their ability to connect with spirit. As someone else said, the college is run more like a business nowadays and give the sitter the sense of serenity it used to. Still a nice building to visit.

My professor for sociology of subcultures was the foremost biographer (and friend) of Vivienne Westwood/Kate Moss/Malcolm McLaren, etc..; professor for social analysis of modern Britain was an EU consultant that would visit candidate memberstates to analyze the economic parabola to see if their country would be able to match the joining criteria, and also taught at LSE... they really got some good people to sign on. I wish I could say the same for the school I'm doing my MA at!!!! The only negative I had with them, was the cafeteria food, and anyone that's been to Richmond can attest to this... (pasta with vegetarian sauce will give you nightmares), but you're in an area with endless restaurants so just eat out! They did a really good job of organizing subsidized activities for the students to do, so daytrips and things in the city would be fairly affordable to those attending. I'd recommend AIFS/ Richmond in a heartbeat. Was a bit pricey, but well worth the experience.

Each year, in early summer, a section of Hyde Park across Kensington Gore is transformed into a showcase of mad and frequently brilliant design ideas. On the occasion I visited, I was able to plug headphones directly into a tree's bark, sit in a full-scale mock-up of a futuristic personal helicopter and even sample the future of bathroom hand-dryers (this eventually went onto become the Dyson Airblade).

The music venue itself was not that great, the sound system was a bit rubbish and it all just felt a little run down. One of the best things about this union obviously is the cheap student drinks. For a fiver I ended up being able to get a shot, a bag of crisps and a small glass of wine - not bad at all, I forgot how cheap it was being a student every time I visited here. It's a little out of the way for drinks or to see a band so unless you are a student, there's no real need to visit Imperial College Union...

The now legendary "turbo Rosie" was invented here. Half a pint of real ale, half an old Rosie, and a double vodka top. These days it's not as cheap a venue as it used to be, but still well worth a look in as you don't generally need any student ID, and where better a place to relive the old days?! Well in fact, the only choice since the excellent southside bar has now been knocked down. When you get bored of the crappy student service, pop round to The Queens Arms around the corner.
