On the lodge -- it really is a comfortable place to relax, unwind, and have a great time. There is a fire pit outside to warm the night with great conversation and more than enough room inside to take in some TV, eat, or otherwise entertain yourself. The only down side is that you need to bring your own when it comes to everything outside of a rental gun and white hoodies for snow geese -- and I mean everything. For the seasoned person this might not be a second thought but for a casual experience this can be a real trick. A private chef hire for cooking for a reasonably sized group could make (or break) the entire experience for a group. Though all of the logistics were outside of my space I really don't know where all of this magic (or lack there of) comes from. The bottom line was there were basically two large groups taking up the place when I was there. Theirs was firing on all cylinders back at the lodge and ours sucked. The larger problem, when you are not prepared right, is that the area is thin on everything and there are laws relating to the sale (as in it being illegal) of liquor on the weekends. To make matters worse the speed limits change quickly and the local enforcement cracks down on anyone not from the area. With all of the above, yes, I am still a fan. However, you need to be well prepared and understand the logistics of the area to have a truly great time.

This was our first Arkansas duck hunt and we all had high expectations due to hunting the Stuttgart Arkansas delta region. The lodging was mediocre, the beds were all bunk beds and very small. The owner was very difficult to contact and response time was terrible. Our group met him and his brother Monday morning and headed to the woods. We hunted an oxbow fairly close to the lodge. We didn't have a duck even try and land in the spread, the calling was horrendous, screaming at the birds a mile away. We didn't get a chance to kill anything Monday morning. The owner / guide got mad started cussing , slammed the blind door and jumped in his boat and disappeared for close to an hour. We couldn't hold a conversation with this guy, he was unprofessional and disconnected. We asked him if he had other places to hunt, could we hunt the evening because it was close to a full moon, if he had another area, blind etc.... Nothing, he said he had 3 blinds and the one we were in was the best. He also told us that it was all private land and at shooting time we had a random boat run through the decoys. We hunted Tuesday morning the 14th and had the same result, didn't have anything decoy in. We pass shot a wood duck at 100 yards because he said take em.. lol we sat both days until 11:30. After our hunt Tuesday he recommended we hunt the same blind again Wednesday. We told him no way. We didn't drive 10hours to sit for 15 to 20 hours or 3 days and not get a chance to shoot a duck. Mr James said he would make some calls. He didn't come up with anything. We made some calls as well and were able to go out with an outfitter down the road. Arkansas County Outfitters was able to accommodate us Tuesday evening on a duck and goose hunt. We were able to kill our limit of specks and a couple of ducks, we went back out with Arkansas County Outfitters Wednesday morning and shot another limit of specks. We are grateful for the guys at ACO, they are true professionals. As for Greenheads and Labs in Saint Charles Arkansas, it was the worst, most disappointing and unprofessional experience of my life. I hope that no one else is subjected to this type of treatment. We paid alot of money to go on a trip of a lifetime and were basically robbed. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go hunt with this group. Seemed to me like Mr James is burnt out and should hang it up.

He was on time and would ride around looking for the birds before our evening hunt. He had everything set up for us. We will definitely continue coming back to HSGS every year.

If you have finally decided to pull the trigger with a guided outfit make sure not to use these…read moreguys. Unprepared, unprofessional and under equipped would be an understatement. After months of research and deliberation my buddy and I decided to use Corey Adams and Lance Green with Smashhouse guide service and DC Outdoors in Arkansas. Biggest mistake of our lives! Not only do they not lease their own land, but lie about it and took us to remote public spots with no ducks so we would not run into other hunters. We figured this out while waiting on Corey for our first afternoon hunt (morning hunt produced no birds and we ran into other hunters on "leased" land). Then we ran into the property owner who approached us and let us know he lets all the local kids hunt there so they have something to do instead of getting into trouble. Also come to find out Corey Adams has quite the negative reputation with other guides and law enforcement in the area. Do not let history repeat itself. Never use any outfit associated with either of these two "guides". Hope this post saves someone the money and frustration we experienced.

And building lasting relationships? I was asked for the balance of my trip before I was shown where we would be staying. The guides did a good job but the ownership of this place obviously isn't worried about repeat customers. Be prepared to hunt 8-10 in a group and who knows who you might share a room with. Steer clear.
