My wife and I were wandering the Duck shops and I remembered reading about Duck Donuts on TripAdvisor, so we decided to stop in to try one. Well, we tried two, the Maple Bacon and the Lemon. I am not a big fan of maple, but this donut was awesome. Lots of bacon and the maple glaze wasn't too strong. The bacon was not fake, either, it was like they made a tone of bacon and crumbled it up. The lemon topping was also superb. The cake is quite delicious, not overly sweet or doughy like some donuts. The donuts were nice and warm when we got them and they melted in our mouths. We liked them so much that the next morning I went down and got a dozen for the rest of the people in the house. They were still warm when I got back to the house and the donuts did not last long. The staff was superb friendly both times we went, too. read more

Duck Donuts in Duck and Kitty Hawk are superb. I went to the corolla location twice and the donuts were old and cold. The Donuts at this location were hot out of the oil, no heat lamp. I drove an extra 10 miles just to eat these wonderful donuts. I plan to stop first thing in the morning and get a half dozen to eat for breakfast. Glazed and orange were my favorite! read more

I am fighting between 4 and 5 star inside but the 5 is going to easily win out. What a Duck institution. And confusing at first(only reason to consider a 4), but wow, what an operation. They are literally making your donuts right after you order. You order on one side of a courtyard and then walk over to the other. We bought a bucket of 18 for a group we were with. We were able to get about 10 different kinds and I head not a word from anyone of complaint. And the one I had with maple and bacon was just too darn good! I think I could go here and just watch the donuts being made. 3 people. One working the donut machine, one dipping and one doing toppings. And no fear. A bucket is not in a bucket and a bucket would not work. These are soft, warm donuts with melted toppings that would get all over others so they use the dozen box and a six pack box. My wife loved the lemon one with blueberry. I loved both the chocolate and maple toppings and both with bacon as a topping. These things melt in your mouth literally and have plenty of flavor. Only one morning but it was a great morning thanks to Duck Donuts!!! read more

We took a couple of days down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and were told about Duck Donuts by a family member. We stopped in to check out the donuts that were described to us as "The best donuts in the world".... Yeah right, we thought , just how good could a donut be. So I order a regular donut and 2 maple donuts and the same for my wife. We go outside on the deck/boardwalk and have a seat at a well used table and I took my first bite of THE BEST DONUT IN THE WORLD!!! I was instantly addicted.....I looked back at the shop at the ever growing line understanding why the immense popularity. I finished the plain donut and bit into the maple dipped donut and realized that I was wrong. The plain donut wasn't the best donut in the world THE MAPLE DIPPED DONUT WAS!!! I finished the three donuts and was dragged away by my wife who said, "This place is dangerous!" We were leaving the next day and we stopped in for a dozen, half of which we ate in the parking lot. We finished them off the next morning. (They are better fresh but still good) It is about time to go back to OBX because Duck Donuts is our favorite vacation spot ever! read more

Great Hot and Fresh Donuts! The chocolate flavor with chocolate sprinkles was my favorite. The donuts were very tasty with a nice crunch on the end bites. The only negative things I can say is that the place is only open for a few hours (think they close at 1:30pm or so) and had no place to sit down and eat the yummy donuts. read more

Best Donuts I've ever had! My only complaint is that the second time I had them they were sloppy and you couldn't tell which donut is what. I advise that you come in BEFORE 9:00am or else you will wait in a line for twenty minutes because they are so busy. If you come in after 9:00 then your donuts may be sloppy because they are working so fast. Overall: the Donuts are great and DEFINITELY worth the wait. read more

Love the town of Duck NC and Duck Donuts is an institution. you can tell because there is always a line out the door. And the line goes to one place and then you pick up across the alley at their cooking location. What an operation. I was so impressed and then when I got to eat the final product I really was impressed. Yum! I went to the Spring Lake, NC Duck Donuts the Saturday before Christmas 2019. Initially I was excited to see a Duck Donuts on my way to Fayetteville, NC that morning because I normally go to the one in Cary, NC all the time. Unfortunately the donuts at the Spring Lake location were horrible. Definitely not going back. The 2 regular glazed donuts I got were cold and hard. Nothing compared to the soft warm donuts at the Cary, NC location. These could not have been freshly made. They tasted like they just came out of the frig and the glaze was cold also. It made me sick to my stomach. I was so damn mad. I ordered a hot drink and it was okay. This is a drive thru location. I ordered at one window then had to drive around to the other window to get my food. There were a few cars (about 2 or 3) in front of me and the wait was about 20 minutes. That's ridiculous I think. Especially for cold donuts. I was going to go back on my way home and talk to the 2 young ladies about it but I said to myself never mind I just wont ever go back. That location got my money 1 time and for the last time. If the drive thru locations donuts dont look and taste like the donuts at a regular Duck Donuts store then don't bother opening up that type of locations. read more

WARNING! If you live near a Krispy Kreme and believe they are the pinnacle of what a donut should be, then Duck Donuts is not for you. First off, Duck Donuts use a cake batter and not a yeast batter like all other place. Their cake batter is used for all their donuts, then topped with the flavors you want. You can not get any "filled" donuts. Even in the off season we still had to wait an hour for two dozen donuts. And of course the order was wrong. We chose to take what we were given as opposed to waiting for another hour. Now, as far as the donuts we received, they were ok. Not the best (and NO, I do not consider Krispy Kreme the best. I have had better.) And they are not the worst. You will have to make the choice about waiting an hour for ok donuts for yourself. There are other donut shops in the area with just as good a quality donuts as Duck Donuts. As for me and my family we fell for the tourist trap but now know what the score is. And you are one to do it just to say you did it, by all means... Have fun! read more

Yum! We discovered Duck Donuts years and years ago on a winter trip to the OBX. There is no better donut, you do have to like cake donuts. This is a "design your own" donut shop where you can make the donut of your dreams. These donuts are best enjoyed while warm/hot and are made to order. It's one of our must go to places while visiting. We have been fortunate (and happy) to now be able to enjoy Duck Donuts as they have expanded to Northern Virginia. Allowing us to get our donut fix without the long drive to the OBX. read more
