You get to pick from about ten choices in each category, the categories being the base icing, topping icing, and topping (such as glazed donut with vanilla icing and raspberry drizzle). Donuts from Heaven could also be used to name this place. All the donuts are made to order, you can make your selection of icing and toppings. I had to have a maple icing one topped with bacon, why not? My kids enjoyed being able to order theirs and go over to see them being made fresh and hot. Actually 3 1/2 stars...Unique perspective in creating individual donuts but the long wait in a tiny room during the morning hours takes away from the enjoyment. They are expanding beyond just Duck, NC so family disappointed that it isn't just a "Duck" experience anymore. I went with the 2 dozen bucket (baker's choice) and those still sleeping at home were happy. Noticed they have an online service so next time around I'll order online and THEN go pick them up. Hope to avoid waiting 1/2 hour in cramped quarters. If you like fresh donuts, can't beat the taste but the process and location could use an upgrade. read more

Every time we come to Duck, we HAVE to stop at Duck Donuts. It is a little bit of a wait to get them, but they are fresh and warm and oh so delicious! Totally worth it! Only suggestion is to get a deli counter type number counter so it is easier for the crowds waiting outside to know when their number is up. read more

Amazing cake donuts, great customer service, and at a reasonable price! As soon as you walk in there is someone to greet you at the checkout and explains to you the process of choosing toppings and frostings and then you watch as they take a warm cake donut fresh from the fryer and fills your order. I recommend you eat them warm and if you need to, you can microwave for later. They package all donuts in a convenient little box so you can use it to eat out of. What a find Duck Donuts was. Too bad we found 'em at the end of our vacation. Duck Donuts offers made-to-order fry cakes where they cook up the donuts right in front of you and then add the frosting and toppings you request. Feeling uncreative (as I was early in the morning)? Just ask the friendly staff to help you choose. (Oh yeah, free samples too - so you'll want to be the guy who does the donut run.) The only negative I suppose would be that they don't offer filled donuts or things like apple fritters. But that's OK for me, I like the fry cakes anyway. read more

Wow. These are even better then the reviews stated. The Duck shop is tiny - the line really does stretch out the door. These are fresh, warm and delicious. My favorites were the powdered sugar and the cinnamon sugar. Because they are fried they come out tasting like an elephant ear. My spouse's favorite was the chocolate covered with coconut. I know the price is a little high for donuts, but it is so worth it. These are the best donuts I have ever had. They still taste just as good when they are cooled down. We actually stopped again at a different location and got a half dozen. Well worth stopping in. The only thing we did not like about this store is that they workers do not wash their hands between ringing stuff at the cash register and dipping the donuts. read more

Good donuts, if your donut is fresh and if they get your order right. Over the course of a week, my extended family placed 10 separate orders at the shop, filling out their little order forms as requested. In all 10 cases there was mistake in the donuts we got (i.e. ordered vanilla frosting with chocolate sprinkles, got vanilla with no sprinkles or vanilla with rainbow sprinkles). That is a 0% success rate. The type of sprinkles or glaze is not a huge deal but why is it so hard for them to get it right? When we would politely point out the errors they acted annoyed and often made rude comments. There is no need for that. The donuts, when warm and fresh, are remarkable but they have a long way to go in operations. read more
