When I initially read about this place, it sounded like it was going to be the Outer Banks version of Fractured Prune donuts, which I don't really care for. Luckily, I was wrong! They have options such as choosing your own glazes and toppings, but there aren't nearly as many, and they don't have any of the particularly bizarre stuff. More importantly, the donuts taste AMAZING, whether they are plain or covered in something. The cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar donuts (which totally do taste like funnel cakes, which is probably why I liked them so much) were my absolute favorite. Service was also good... the employees were both nice and quick. I was probably only in there for about 5-10 minutes and that was with a line and ordering a dozen donuts (I think it was around $12 for a dozen). Parking is tight at this location, but definitely worth going to (and I would suggest going multiple times). read more

Here's the real deal: The Duck Donuts shop in Duck is located right on the famous boardwalk, where you can sit and enjoy your donuts, and then, walk them off with a long stroll along the waterfront! The shop where you order the donuts doesn't look like a donut shop - it's a store filled with various "Duck Donut" stuff to buy - including lots of funny t-shirts, little rubber duckies, and various coffee-cups and other items with the store logo. At the counter, you order your donuts, including a "glaze" type and a "topping." There aren't any photos or images of the donuts - which is too bad. Even some real samples would be a good addition to help you decide. Order up, and walk across the sidewalk/picnic area, and pick up your donuts on the other side. If you're quick you can WATCH your donuts being made...The donuts? They are a moist cake type donut that taste pretty darn good without any toppings at all. We tried the lemon, maple, peanut butter and regular glazes - the lemon was my favorite - nice and tart and a good contrast to the sweetness of the donut. If you're a donut fan, you've got to try Duck Donuts if you're visiting the Outer Banks. And the Duck location is of course, just ducky! read more

Great donuts - delicious and tons of variety. But during peak season the wait is so absurdly long that it's hard to justify. Arrived at 7 in the morning and the line out the door was half an hour long, and then once I placed the order it was another 20 minutes to get the donuts. Every we always stay at the beach house in Corolla. But because of some changes we decided to stay at Duck last year! I might sound crazy to just write a review for them a year later after I ate there but at least I wanted to share my first experience in Duck. For me personally, I didn't feel like I like Duck at all compared to Corolla, but I did love all the restaurants around there! I was eagerly anticipating my first visit to Duck Donuts and this place did not disappoint. The donuts are freshly made, so it's a soft warm cake with a hint of crust. Mine was smothered in maple glaze. It's a brilliant concept and it works. It's not just about the donut, it's the entire donut making experience that is worth savoring, especially when you're on vacation and enjoying the daily magic of the beach. We love this place! You order on one side, pay, get an order number, and then pick your order up on the other side. You can watch them make the bare donuts too. It was great creating our own flavors. We went 2x on vacation and made quite a few chocolate ones. My favorite one was cinnamon sugar coating with salted caramel drizzle. Of course you can get plain donuts and they will do an assortment for you. They also have coffee, tea, bottled water, juices and t-shirts to show your Duck Donuts pride! read more

Love the concept & execution... fresh made-to-order donuts! At this location there were signs clearly indicating that there was one side where you place the orders and another where you pick up. I ordered a half-dozen, and by the time I walked over they were already boxing up my order. When the employee noticed that I was taking pictures of the machine, she very helpfully offered to demonstrate making another donut so I could watch & take pictures, which was really nice. My favorites were the bare donut with no icing at all, and the chocolate. Maple was *very* maple-y, a little too sweet in my opinion. read more

One of those must things you need to do when your in the OBX. These things are crazy good and everyone visiting knows it. With that said you will wait in line if you're not there as soon as they open and believe me it gets tight inside the store because this place is as tiny like a studio apartment. One thing to warn you about these donuts is that you probably won't eat just one and you will feel the guilt and the expansion of your waistline as you eat these sugar bombs. Eventually you just have say, "WTF I'm on vacation" but be sure to take that bike ride or run on the beach because I bet you will be in line the next morning. Cool thing about this place is that the donuts are made to order and you get to see how each gets dunked into the many flavored icings and sprinkles just seconds after you place it. The coffee is not that great but not bad either and I do recommend getting one because it goes great with a fresh donut right off the line. Damn this place, why do they taste so addictive. read more

Best donut ever. It's super cool that you can go in and get toppings of your choice! My friends love the maple glaze with bacon - chocolate with coconut - strawberry with chocolate drizzle. Best cake donuts! I'm not a huge cake donut water, these are wonderful. You order on one side of the dock, then leave that little building and go across and can watch them make it. They only have vanilla cake doughnuts so you pick a type of icing/sugar and then add toppings. All of the flavors are delicious and my favorites are maple bacon and peanut butter. Seriously worth a stop if you are in the area, or within a 20-30 minute drive. read more

Yummy sugar rush! I had the maple glaze but next time I think I would get the naked one...the donuts are so yummy you really don't need to put anything on it. The coffee is from a local roaster so that is cool too. Next door is a ice cream place so you can order a donut and then put some ice cream on it...seems like a pretty amazing idea. read more

There are very few "musts" in Duck, but Duck Donuts is one of them. We got a mix and they were loved by the kids and adults. Incredibly fresh and tasty. Yes, they're more greasy than a Dunkin' Donut, but they're also much tastier and it's always nice to support a local business. Only downside is the wait. The line was a little out the door and we waited about 15 minutes. People told us the line can be considerably longer, so be prepared to stand around for 30 min. read more
