Charming guy, inexpensive price, responsive on text. He did a small job for us and it was great. He got it done quick. We also saw other good jobs he had done in the area. Beyond that, Holika is the worst. He will rip you and not always do a good job. Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY UP FRONT! I know he currently has at least one judgement against him and he is getting sued by another guy. I wish done more research on him before hiring, and now firing him. read more

This review is long overdue. I originally didn't want to post a negative review but now with a possible increased need for contractors in the near future to assist with rebuilding Lahaina, I thought I should share our experience with DSK Contractors so as to help anyone else avoid this contractor. Long story short, we hired DSK to rebuild a pool deck and then added on a cement stair project that went without a hitch and was completed on time and on budget in 2015. When an opportunity to remodel two bathrooms presented itself in 2017, we contacted DSK for an estimate and were happy with the bid and the promised "completed in two weeks" timeline. Unfortunately, DSK never actually completed the project. Our experience is identical to many other reviewers in that after a months of uncompleted projects and frustration with our inquiries about why "the crew never showed up" or why windows were never ordered after we provided payment and deposits for such. At one point, we were asked to pay a couple of his crew with cash at the end of the week and that amount would be deducted from our final invoice! After that, we knew we were in a bad situation and ended up rolling up our sleeves and working alongside the one crew member that continued to show up to help complete the project. I personally purchased, picked up and unloaded building materials from Home Depot in order to get the project completed - we figured since we were paying the one guy that was working, he essentially was working for us at that point. After 4 months of sporadic work with the one guy that would show up to work, he told us he was leaving for vacation for a month to go back to Vietnam. In the end, DSK failed us and never actually completed the project - and certainly not within the "two weeks" that was promised. My husband and I ended up completing the remodel ourselves and luckily, because we didn't pay out the entire estimate/bid, we weren't out any money - especially since we were paying the crew with our own cash on a weekly basis near the end. Save yourself the grief and avoid DSK Contractors at all costs. Hiring them for a 2nd project was one of our biggest regrets at homeowners. read more

Just hired DSK Contractors for a CMU wall that needed to be repaired. As soon as they received their deposit they started immediately. We received progress photos, finish photos and they were very communicative the whole time. They finished the job twice as fast as expected with great workmanship. I was very impressed! We think that they are a pretty bad company. We started dealing with their main person around August 2022. We then met him in September 2022 with a carport project with a deck ready for him to do. We had them lay the cement for the carport project and also for an added section for a shed foundation. He completed the cement section within the week after we met with him in September, but after that it has been nearly impossible to get updates or information about the project from him and nothing more has been done with the project since. We already paid him $36,511.51 cash and, after deducting the already completed cement section, he still owes us $18,511.51 if he's not going to complete the project. We called him in October, and he told us that his grandmother had died, and he had to go to the funeral in Florida. Then we did not hear from him until we called him in November to let him know that we would be in Kauai in December. Later on, he responded and said that he has to go to his house in Kona because his house there had been burglarized and his flight was delayed in Los Angeles. We were supposed to meet him in Kauai in December after he arrived home, but then 2-days before we left for Kauai, we called him, and he never answered the phone. And other times it seemed that somebody answered but hung up. We continued sending emails, and then he finally came back asking for another building drawing from us in December, which we sent to him, but we had not heard anything from him again for the next 3 months. Now, in March 2023, we are in Kauai and we emailed him again and told him to let us know what's going on with the project. He responded...finally but said that he's with him Mom in San Diego and will be back in a week. Delay after delay after delay. read more

We hired DSK- Holika 11/2019 to perform major renovations on our primary home and to build an ADU. He started out great with demolition and concrete. However, he was unable to pay for engineered trusses after having received over $100k. Things went downhill from there with months of delays and unreturned calls and text! My husband a retired contractor had build the trusses and manage a meagar 2-3 poorly skilled crew to complete framing and siding. His subcontractor plumber was unprofessional and I never saw the electrician named on the permit. DSK and his plumber never returned calls after failing final inspection. We had to pay subcontractors ourselves. We canceled the contract for ADU and Holika agreed to refund us the $16,000 owed. We received one payment in 2020 and he has never contacted us to pay us the remaining $15,000. read more

These guys are absolutely terrible. My uncle's house was being built by another General Contractor who hired these guys as a sub. They screwed something up and hired another sub to fix the problem. DSK didn't pay this company. Even after the GC demanded they pay they still didn't. Poor business ethics. I would never trust them. read more

Just met with architech, building inspector & 3 other professional contractors who determined that 70% of the work done so far is incorrect and not structurally sound & needs to be torn down & redone. DSK Contractors did a very good job on re-roofing my house in Manoa and solved troublesome, chronic chimney & attached cottage vertical wall flashing problems as well as installing wall siding on several roof dormers & proper flashing that other roofers failed to cure water leaking problems on previous re-roofing jobs. Also replaced several damaged roof rafters. Prompt and on-schedule work. Holika, the owner, was courteous, prompt and addressed all of my concerns throughout the job. Thanks Holika !!! read more

Moved into my house in October having had DSK contractor build it from scratch. The original plan was to have DSK do a major renovation to a 59 year old house we have owned for 30 years. In gutting the inside of the old house and looking what would be required to remodel, we began to have second thoughts. Many of our friends who remodeled an old home told us they wished they had torn it down and started again. After some thought we did just that. We interviewed several contractors and found most wanted us to use "their" set plans from Honsador and although we could modify, each modification upped the price quite a bit. Building costs were quoted between $150 to $350 a square foot. DSK provided us with an architect and drafts woman who came over to our old house and she walked around asking what we liked and didn't like. A few weeks later she came up with some beautiful plans for a totally custom house that we agreed on with very few modifications. After waiting nearly 7 months for a building permit. (another story altogether) DSK began construction of our home in April and we moved in at the beginning of October just over 6 months breaking ground. We cannot be more pleased with our new home. I fully expected some issues with a brand new house and we have had none thus far. I would not be telling the truth if I said everything went perfectly, of course it didn't, we were building a new house from scratch. Everyone told us it could be pretty frustrating sometimes with so many decisions that have to be made almost by the hour. A plan on paper is one thing but once its real, things look a little different. We made several changes and Holika was on top of them all he kept reminding us that this was the house we were to live in for the next thirty years, "make it right". We did. A couple of things came up that really impressed us. One of his carpenters had made several trusses a bit too short but advised us that with a little blocking and bondo it would not be noticed. We did not agree and had planed to tell Holika, but when we arrived the next morning to tell him, the carpenters had already removed all the short trusses and were replacing them. They told us that Holika had come by later in the evening and had seen the work and ordered them removed and replaced without having consulted with us. Another situation with a sub contracted tile company resulted in faulty work in one bathroom. Holika had them start all over again two times. The third time Holika asked me what I though and I was hesitating a bit because I wanted the house done. Holika looked at me and said, "if it were my house, Id have him do it again." They did it again and I am so glad they did. I could tell you more but you can see the pattern. We are pleased with DSK, its employees and staff. Upon finishing the house we had a blessing and bar-b-que party for all who helped build this house and were treated to a roast pig in our yard. The building inspectors came many times throughout the construction and the Permit was signed off with us receiving the certificate of occupancy three months after it was finished, which I hear is pretty good from the DPP. The ultimate question is that if I had to do it all over again, would I use DSK and my answer is a definitive , yes and we are still enjoying the, "house that Holika built." read more

Searched for contractors that could do fence repairs on Home Advisor and their company came up. I was surprised because I got a quick response call. When I told him I needed a fence repair quote, he told me he would send someone the next day and they would call before going to look at the fence. The next day came & since I never got a call, I called to find out what was going on. I was told his crew was in Princeville and wasn't coming out that day. Ok, so knowing that, no one bothered to call me? I asked when they could come out and was told the following day & again that someone would call. I waited and AGAIN, no one called or came. So I thought I'd give them the weekend, maybe someone would go out to look at it and call me Monday (today). I call a 3rd time & this time the guy remembering he spoke to me before starts to get rude when I tell him again no one called & I ask if someone came out without calling. He said no, no one did and it's his brother that's in Kauai, not him so he doesn't know what's going on. He asked me if I took pictures of the damage, how long the fence is, etc. then tells me it's going to cost $4,500. How can he know that without ever seeing the damage? When I asked him if he could give me a written detailed estimate for the insurance company he says "yeah just send me the information on who to make it out to." So I asked him for an email address and he says "no, we don't use email, just text me the information" What?? And when I went back to the Home Advisor listing, this is clearly showing on it: hmanupule@yahoo.com. So clearly, he lied!! On Home Advisor they have a lot of good reviews which makes me wonder if they're writing them on their own!! I will definitely not use them since they are not only unreliable, but apparently found it easy to lie about the email. If this is how they treat potential customers, I shudder to think what happens to actual customers!!! Don't be fooled by great reviews on Home Advisor people...I think the customer comment before mine is more accurate because they clearly don't give a s**t!! SMH read more

My husband and I are home owners here on Kauai. I have lived on Kauai over 43 years and my husband is Hawaiian, born and raised. We are so blessed to have been introduced to DSK Contractors! This company has completed a few large projects for us and we could not be happier! Their prices are fair (I did check with other companies/pricing). And one or two days I had about 10 guys out in my yard working on these projects! When the jobs were completed to our satisfaction, and they were, we happily paid them. At first contact, he was so quick to return a call, come to the house to take measurements and do an assessment for our the room we added to the house. But as soon as we gave him the deposit, he was harder and harder to get a hold of. He began the process in March 2016 and still hasn't finished a single room addition to our house and it is February 2017. He originally quoted that it would take 2 weeks to put up 3 walls, insulation, and be finished with the room addition. He made every excuse about why his guys couldn't work when he said they would be at our house. They broke ground in July and finished the last bits of construction in December. He hasn't given us our final inspection certificate, which our home owners association requires. And we've been waiting for months to receive that. He continues to blame the electrician. Every subcontractor that came out to do a job for him said that the construction looked very poorly done and that dsk contractors was hard to get a hold of and hadn't paid them for other jobs they had done for him. Anyone that we know who has experience in construction or building that has seen our room addition says it was poorly constructed with very low quality work. We are stuck with the work that was done on our house, please don't make the same mistake we did. Choose another contractor. He'll take your money while promising you things and timelines that he doesn't intend to uphold. He is a very unethical business practitioner and his work will be below average. read more
