It's like stepping into a living landscape painting, where every hue is a brushstroke by Mother Nature herself. At Snake Creek, every path is an invitation to a new story. Burgeoning waters crackle with the rhythm of the wind, fishing spots that promise the thrill of the catch, and picnic areas that welcome you to dine amidst the whispers of the wind. As the day ends, the real magic begins. The sun dips below the horizon, and the night sky unveils a masterpiece - a tapestry of twinkling stars. Gather around a crackling bonfire , share stories under the celestial canopy, and create memories that will sparkle forever. Snake Creek is a perfect stop for RVers. See our Leisure Travel Van below, happily cooling off after a long day's ride through the flatlands of Nebraska and South Dakota. Many slots for RV's are level: some are not. The campground is on the edge of a major waterway and the site follows the contours of the water. There are full, partial and no hookup sites for those with RV's. There's also tent sites. The bathrooms / showerhouses sparkle. And there's a dump site for RV's. When we pulled up, there was only one RV near 15 empty RV spaces and us. Behind our spot, the mighty Missouri River which at this point was behind a dam and a mile wide. Our space had hookups intended for a RV to back-in, but I was not going to a miss an opportunity to sit and look out at the windshield. This campground did not have water or sewer, only electric, which is odd but for two days, it would not be a problem. Voilà, campsite setup! I loved this campground and this location. I would have feel comfortable staying here for two weeks, settling into a slower pace, with a beautiful view. Perhaps in the future, we will stop here for another stay. Would I recommend this park? Absolutely. Would we come back? Absolutely, I am trying to figure out a way to pass through this part of South Dakota again. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV.

If you are tent camping here, there is a small indoor bathroom & a couple showers inside the big office cabin. Concrete floors & homemade walls though - this is not a hotel. (you're camping, duh!) At night you have to use the outhouses. There are also a few supplies you can buy (ice, t-shirts, batteries, s'mores kits). In the morning, they load up the coolers, tubes, & canoes into an old school bus. They'll tell you funny stories as you drive up to the put-in. You'll drive past elk & some other cool stuff. If you want to do the short day trip, you'll get out at the bridge. For the long trip, you'll go all the way up to Smith Falls. Make sure you hike up to the waterfall before you put in! As you float down the Niobrara River, you'll know you're getting close to camp when you pass Fritz's Island. Then the twin daughters of the family will help pull your tube ashore. One warning: If no beer is a deal-breaker, then you'll want to find a different outfitter. They're pretty strict about no alcohol here. Of course, there are a few places along the river to buy beer if you're desperate. This is a great retreat for families or groups of friends!

This is our FAVORITE place in the state (and we live in NE!) I've probably been camping here…read moretwenty times over the past 25 years. It's a beautiful spot along the Niobrara River. The campsites are nice - we like the ones along the river. We enjoy visiting with the owners and playing a game of checkers with Roy. The shop's bathroom is preferable to the outhouses but that goes along with camping :) The owners are very helpful and provide great service for river trips (1 day/2 day . . . canoe/kayak/tubes) Last year we took our kids for the first time (12, 10 and 8) and they loved it. We are going back in a couple of weeks for this years' trip. Highly recommended for families. We also stayed in the cabin above the office one night when we were just passing through. It provided what we needed (there were 11 of us). A couple of kids slept on the couches and we did make use of the showers downstairs in addition to the bathroom in the cabin. The view can't be beat and the price was reasonable.

Graham Canoe Outfitters - Enjoy a relaxing tube trip with our comfortable tubes. Your cooler goes right in the middle so you have easy access to snacks and drinks!

They were right there when we got to the finish spot and helped pull the canoes out. Thank you for a fun and safe day! Also, I noticed another review that was frustrated about an extra fee for leaving the canoes 100 yards away from the landing. That's a football field! And if it was down river getting them back would not be trivial - they'd have to carry them in the river or through the brush. They give a very detailed map about where the landings are and there are signs visible from the river.

On the second day, road conditions delayed us from our agreed upon start time. To top it off, we forgot the keys to the vehicle we left at our ending point. Doug was wonderfully patient and helped us through our problems. Grahams is definitely our "go-to" outfitter in the future! As a previous critique expressed frustration after landing their boats or floats 100 yards past their designated area, I would remind all area visitors that outfitters are private entities that may or may not have agreements with their neighbors for them (or you) to come on their property. Please study maps and understand where you are allowed be "off" the river. Lining up where you will come off the river and permission from other property owners if you want to walk on their ground before your trip ensures you are not trespassing. Happy travels!
